Your argument is questionable. The obesity rate in Canada is growing as fast or faster than the US rate. Currently it is 23% of adults in Canada vs. 30% of USA adults. Also, health education is part of the overall health care system, so my question stands. If you asked people in Dec. 1990, when gas was $1.35 a gallow, if they thought they would ever see gas for 87 cents a gallon again, they probably would have said 'no' as well. The current oild prices are based on speculation, not reality. Somewhere down the road, when reality sets in, prices are going to crash. I am all for protecting the environment, but I have to say, the conversion from MTBE to ethanol could not have come at a worse time. In addition, the changover has been poorly managed and poorly executed. Another policy from the Republican white house and congress that is driving up gas prices. And I'm not trying to. But there is no doubt that gas guzzlers increase demand, which pumps up price. If we all drove cars that got 60 mpg, the demand would be less than half, and th price would fall. Oh, and thanks for the "how stuff works" article. I am not drinking the cool aid. I think we need to halt their nuclear work. That being said, there is no CONCRETE evidence that they are going to produce weapons. We had much more evidence on Iraq, and we ALL know how that turned out. By the way, where are those pesky WMD's? And when are we bringing Osama to justice exactly? Look - If you think Dubya is doing a heckuva job for our country, there is very little I can say or do at this point to convince you that he is not. The fact that you are still backing his policies, while his approval numbers sit at 33%, tells me that you are part of the hardcore right that puts loyalty before reality. In other words, the world could fall apart around you, and you would continue to march lock-step with your fearless leader. As your side of the aisle empties out and the other side continues to fill up, maybe you will get lonely enough to start thinking about the decisions being made, and how they affect all of us. There is no evidence they are trying to produce weapons - only strong suspicion. There was lots of evidence presented making the case on Iraq, and it turned out to be totally and completely wrong. That mistake is costing us dearly now in our attempt to keep Iran from following in the footsteps of N. Korea. I want a gas guzzler tax. If you choose to drive a hummer that gets 8 mpg you need to pay a high gas tax. Why? Your disproportionate use of a limited resource is driving up demand and increasing prices for everyone. Let's make that law and watch gas prices PLUMMET.
