  1. You are very welcome. Actually, yes, my job can be difficult. But it is sooo rewarding and I don't feel at all as if I have to endure anything. I know that most of us treat our patients as if they're family...indeed, sometimes closer, and I don't worry too much about getting criticism or praise about it. I love my job. And it's my sweet (and sometimes not so sweet) residents that make it worth going to every day.

Wow!! He said it so much better!
  3. Actually, you didn't offend me at all. I just know that the "news" is very quick to jump on any angle and rush to judgement--ignoring the facts. And I did actually say that I know it goes on some places. It's just that people have a fear of abuse in nursing homes, and most people think it's much more rampant than it truly is. I deal every day with family members who can no longer take care of Mom or Dad and are feeling terrible guilt about having them come to live at a "nursing home". There's just so much stigma, much of it well founded, especially from many many years ago when facilities weren't regulated. My concern is adding to the stress and guilt that centers around this issue. There are, I'm sure, abuses occurring. I'm just saying it's not inevitable, and there are many things to look for when choosing a home to ensure that Mom or Dad is cared for with loving, compassionate hands.\ Whew! Hands tired now. By the way, very very glad your sweet baby is all better now. AND I'M NOT UPSET, DAMMIT!
  4. Well, I appreciate the idea, but.....I had another neighbor who put one of those shock collars on their dogs. It was so pitiful hearing the little guys start to bark "wuf----yelp!!" I felt guilty causing them to hurt themselves. Maybe it's me...seems I constantly have neighbor's dogs barking at me.
  5. Let's not get all inflammatory here. At our facility, there is no way in hell that an employee can be alone with a resident long enough to say boo! let alone molest them. I'm not saying that it never happens anywhere, but the number of quality Long Term Care(LTC) facilities is much higher than anyone gives credit for. I'm very, very proud of where I work. Then again, I know what to look for in a quality LTC. I'm just sayin'......."running rampant" is a strong description.
  6. Well, the elderly in Florida must have a whole hell of a lot of get up and go compared to our Colorado counterparts. I've worked in a "Nursing Home" for 6 years...the closest any of them has come to having sex are the two sweet little ladies who room together and frequently are found naked in bed together the next morning. TMI?
  7. Hmmmm.....I like the water ideas...devious, yet not really cruel. And I know what the "adult" thing to do would be, but that's not nearly as much fun as the other options, now is it?
  8. Little yap-yap dog is driving me crazy!!! I can't even sit on my own deck, read a book and enjoy a glass of wine. He doesn't stop barking!!!!!! What should I do?
