  1. Eh? They're based on scientific studies young man - statistics, documented evidence - s'all over the 'net like! 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  2. Time for a change in energy policy, eh? Might save us from some more wars. . . 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  3. Can you imagine such a law in countries with drinking culture problems such as the UK!? Imagine kicking out time: "Time please gentlemen, drink up..." BANG! Or at the queue outside the chippie: "D'ye wantae no cut in front of us ya prick..." BANG! Instead of fists flying on a Friday night it'd be 9mm - carnage!
  4. Completely agree. I just decided to point out that not "Everyone acts like this is a new idea or approach." Perhaps that's an issue with US Forces?
  5. How about The Telegraph? UK is violent crime capital of Europe http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/lawandorder/5712573/UK-is-violent-crime-capital-of-Europe.html The Sun? UK: Most violent nation in Europe http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2512514/UK-is-most-violent-nation-in-Europe-and-is-worse-than-US.html London Daily News? UK number 1 violent nation in Europe http://www.thelondondailynews.com/cent-increase-murders-rapes-robberies-since-labour-came-power-number-violent-nation-europe-p-3143.html Blaming the newspaper for reporting the story is such an easy way to stick your head in the sand and deny the truth. I'm not sticking my head in the sand - I merely mentioned an opinion of a newspaper I'm not particularly fond of. Good of you to also provide additional links though. Perhaps you might like to also substantiate your original post rather than cut and paste a newspaper story. What do you make of the statistic that we're 13th regarding homicides? Perhaps we should all arm ourselves with handguns and allow massive weapon proliferation throughout our country. Even better; do little to prevent our disturbed teenage relatives from accessing such weaponary as well. Yeah, that'll sort the violence issue right out. Reckon it'll further reduce our homicide rates? "There are also degrees of violence. While the UK ranks above South Africa for all violent crime, South Africans suffer more than 20,000 murders each year - compared with Britain's 921 in 2007." And what about this: "In Britain, an affray is considered a violent crime, while in other countries it will only be logged if a person is physically injured." 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  6. I've eat them all! Can you me sort out a resup? An airborne delivery will be fine - just let us know 'P' hour and I'll mark the DZ. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  7. Everyone? Hope that doesn't include me. Didn't General Petraeus formulate some of his doctrine for the Counterinsurgency field manual from British Counterinsurgency doctrine and experiences in Malaya and NI? Lt Col Nagl, one of the manuals biggest contributors, argues how we got it right in Malaya whilst America got it wrong in Vietnam, attributing this to the British army's organisational culture and ability to learn from unanticipated conditions. It's my belief that all soldiers should be - to a man - flexible enough to incorporate such strategies within their particular areas of soldiering. Flexibility - the key to all good operations.
  8. I've avoided this thread for a while; it breaks my heart - whether we're speaking about our relatives in WW I or II, or our brothers, more recently; in Iraq or Afghan. Recently I'm fuckin' sick and tired of attending funerals. Anyway - I'd the recent honour of attending a battlefield tour with a surviving glider pilot. He was explaining his defensive position to me; where the trenches were built; where the supporting fire was; and most importantly, as the sun burst through from some typical European rain clouds - where he'd lost his Gold lighter. 'Over there, by those Beech trees...' Can you imagine what I'd have done to find this mans lighter? His wee description - his lighter - the way he brought reality back into the present - the way our boys are being wasted now!? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  9. Goats fucking horrible - with a filthy grey palour to the rancid meat as well. I'm amazed so many speak in its favour - it's utterly gopping. And also stinks. And when some local idiot is passing you a handful - from his hand - oh yum, yum! Not. Give me KFC thighs any-day, alright? :) As for hearts and minds? Pretty simple - give your day to day Afghan' people something they can believe in and then we could have a situation similiar to the Borneo campaign all those years ago. Anyone have any good ideas? Of course - it has to be coupled with smashing utter fuck out of the Taliban in Pakistan too, whilst avoiding the inevitablies of war as best you can. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  10. It's potentially an interesting post but unfortunately, as has already been mentioned, there isn't any substance from John to go with the article from the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail. It's SOP is quite simply to generate fear, anger and hate as has already been mentioned, although I do recall some interesting statistics regarding violence relating to the Glasgow area from other media sources. All I can say is this: we've numerous incidents involving firearms - but if we'd the firearm mentality found in America you could easily multiply our murder rates. If you think I might be talking nonsense? Have a short walk between Glasgow Central and Queen street late on a Friday night; ask the question to the people you'll no doubt 'bump' into.
  11. Sounds all good to me. I provided a similiar argument here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3491396;#3491396 And here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3498021;#3498021 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  12. Hit my thumb today with one - ya bastard. There y'go - best SC thread ever. :) 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  13. But wanting the news 'RIGHT NOW' as you put it, is a large part of the problem, as journo's are therefore under a time pressure and can't research their piece properly. The internet news sites such as Yahoo generally just copy one another; it's recycled news. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  14. A significant problem is that journalists no longer have the time to fully research a story properly, never minding the deliberate lies, PR, propaganda and spin!
  15. But I thought I was a conservative right wing whackjob?
  16. Eh? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  17. I struggle to see the problem here. If you're a fat cunt just eat less and exercise more. Where's the problem? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  18. But the problem is that it they weren't actually committing a criminal act in the majority of the cases (I know, I know!), because they set their own pay and conditions. Tell you what though, if I wasn't a millionaire already I'd seriously be considering becoming an MP. . . Still, it's nice to read a press article that can only cause a despicable situation to better itself. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  19. It's been a contentious issue for a while now; here's some links from the Daily Telegraph which recently published who and what was being claimed: A couple of IRA terrorists making the most of it: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mps-expenses/5301510/MPs-expenses-Sinn-Fein-claimed-500000-for-second-homes.html More MPs' doing rather well for themselves: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mps-expenses/5298065/MPs-expenses-Four-ministers-who-milked-the-system.html So who is to blame? The MPs' or their expense system? Perhaps best of all is the letters they've written trying to justify their claims: "From a natural justice perspective I feel a justifiable exception would be the fairest manner to deal with the current situation" – letter from Labour MP in 2006 on why he should be allowed to claim for a £3,100 Sony 40 inch TV "I object to your decision not to reimburse me for the costs of purchasing a baby's cot for use in my London home...Perhaps you might write to me explaining where my son should sleep next time he visits me in London?" – letter from Labour MP in Nov 2004 Brilliant, eh? What I'm trying to figure out is how detrimental to a countries society this behaviour is - Or is it the fault of the society? Either way, this system of cost allowances is without doubt relevant to a different time, and don't the MPs' know it! 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  20. Banning activities such as paintballing and similiar may have the opposite effect to the reasoning behind their banning. . . It's nothing more than a political knee-jerk reaction, as usual. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  21. Ye Gods! Are you trying for a niche in the market or what? 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  22. That's a Boxhead affliction. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  23. Some people just don't like or accept change mate, even when it's inevitable! Still, it'd be nice to eventually see the US modernize. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  24. Seems a bit of a 'no-brainer' doesn't it? I'd imagine most rational people would automatically vote yes. But give it some thought; and please justify your answer. I emphatically vote no. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
  25. At the moment, I think it's economic stimulus . After all, it employs a ton of guards and law enforcement personnel, along with the construction folks to build new prisons. Think of what it would do to unemployment numbers to get rid of all that Wendy W. A valid reason why drugs are illegal. And it's insane. 'for it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "chuck 'im out, the brute!" But it's "saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot.'
