  3. Am up in the malvern and little rock area for a few weeks visiting friends. Then willl be traveling back to the Mississippi area for work before I can get back to my home dz.. Just feel the need to get in the air while up here as well.... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  4. For some reason guys, every number for every dz in arkansas is disconnected.. What is up with that??? I am a S/L student trying to catch some air while in the area over the next week or so... Help!!!!!!!!! Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  5. Kathleen Nice to see you again.. Congratulations on doing CRW. You looked good up there! Your friend Walt was cool, just as you said..lol. Hope to see you when I get back from my adventures. Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  6. Thank You. Someone gave me the heads up and a few places..Much Appreciated. Maybe I will get by to at least visit. Hopefully, will figure something out when I get up there.. British Columbia..I love canadian beer and weather.... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  7. Wish I was in the area again, you guys dz was a great short drive in from New Jersey.. Everyone up there was so nice too!!! I kind of liked the field, it was kind of comfy..Reminded me of my home dz. Except of course I haven't seen a giant dust devil show up at our dz yet. That was kind of neat.. Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  8. Hey I saw the post about you guys' dz and I have to ask, are you guys taking students?? I am going to be staying in Bellingham for about a month and a half and the only dz I could find close was Skydive Snohomish. Yall sound alot closer to where I might be.. But again I am just a measly student trying to find a s/l dz in that area to possibly drop by and do a few jumps at till I can get back home and finish up my s/l. Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  9. Well got back in from Venezuela last week.. Headed to the dz this weekend to make some jumps.. The weather is supposed to be absolutely beautiful and a little bit cooler.. Came back laden with Venezuelan Rum and gifts from Columbia...(Even got Jeff his own personal leather flask bottle from Columbia Kathleen) think he will like it??? You need to come down as I am leaving for California for 6 weeks as of the 10th of September then to Clearlake for 3 weeks and then to Port of Spain, Trinidad for another 6-8 weeks... I love getting paid to travel and work.. See you at the dz................... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  10. I agree s/l lets you gain more canopy control... I don't care what anyone says..... I shoud know I have 11 jumps s/l even though I just did my 5 second delay at least I have made the dz everytime but 2 (my first 2). I am just getting into the freefall adventure but my instructors are great and I like the extra time to learn canopy control an landings than I will worry about freefall... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  11. Mom and Dad were. Dad is working on his blood pressure as we speak to get his FAA physical current.. My sister got a 2000.00 flight scholarship from Civil Air Patrol and started the pilot training.. As she went into teaching she still has to finish..She will probably have to redo everything when she does..You know how that goes.. Me I just like jumping out of them and the "BEER"!!! Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  12. You sparked some student brain activity after I read this post and slept on it.. Made me flash my last 2 landings over in my mind.. I emailed my JM about maybe adjusting my toggles on the rig I usually jump as they may be a bit too long.. Last 2 landings were good but could have been better with as you will Full "Toggle Authority". In order to reach a (near) zero ground-speed on a no-wind day, the pilot must have full "Toggle Authority". In other words, if the toggles are set too long, the pilot will be unable to access the slowest possible airspeed, and therefore will be forced to land with more ground-speed when landing without the advantage of a headwind. Being able to finish the flare completely and then let up after landing to prevent the stall from pulling you onto your heels in an essential part of any no wind landing. Thanks for posting this as now maybe after adjustments and stuff my WONDERFUL Student Landings can become BETTER..... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  13. You got "In the Box", No you are supposed to "Be Out The Box" after you opened your eyes..lol Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  14. Bravo!!! That's what I am talking about statistics!!! Just like the paper says, Go USA Today.. My parents took the pilot route as did my sister. Mom came to visit the home dz a few weeks ago and the whole way home I had to hear that whole bit,"You are Playing with Fire Melissa". Of course she supports my experiene of flight, but I guess my manner vs, hers is a lost cause..lol.. "Why you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane is beyond me" Oh well and then the conversation shift comes in.. So how did I look up there and coming in to the dz... Scuba been there. My cousin was killed in a diving accident off the Seattle,WA coast a few years ago got vertigo and lost his diving partner they didn't find him for days and believe me it was a closed casket.. Thank You But I will take to the blue skies they are much more too my tastes.... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  15. I like your theory best... It sticks to a student's mind real quick, especially the third part of your take. "High vertical and horizontal rate, you're fucked, but PLF anyway." I like Babi have come in on my tushie when there is no wind to land against. But my JM's constantly watch the changing conditions here in TX wind/weather. They tell you in the packing area which way the wind is and to remember to spot the dz high enough to pattern yourself in , then again on the way to the plane, then again as you are going to your altitude.. "Repitition" I guess after being witness myself to someone coming in High vertical and horizontal rate, and tasting tarmac/grass the day after my first tandem years ago. Your theory is quick and to the point..... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  16. Did Someone say, "Beer"? lol. That is pretty cool your family skydives.. My parents and sister did the pilot route. They tease me about ditching out of a "Perfectly Good" airplane all the time.... Just saw the words First Post - Beer and it caught my eye.. Bought several bouts myself and I am sure will buy more. Good Luck putting the rig together, as I am a mere student, I still have some time to save for one.... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  17. Personally I am glad I went the s/l method.. Never really had one problem except one small line twist which just as soon as I looked up and saw it, it was gone.. I have 11 jumps now, of course due to the way I travel for work and crappy weather and a few off-center prcps my 11th jump last weekend was my 5 second delay. When traveling in the NE from feb-late april I found a small dz in kutztown, PA that offered IAD and ended up heading over there and taking IAD recurrency as the dz allowed me to after showing them my log book and was going to make an IAD jump but the weather went to you know CRAP! Either way I am glad I took the route of s/l over AFF as my canopy control and landings I feel comfortable with. I also like the IAD training route I guess because it is similar to s/l.. Now this is the opinion of someone yet still a newbie but I haven't landed off the dz since the first 2 jumps.. As a matter of fact I am going to try weather permitting this weekend to get jump 12 in which my JM said I will get maybe to almost to altitude..(I am not rushing it, if you are wondering). At least maybe then when I leave for Venezuela on the 29th I maybe able to do a few jumps down there to keep current till I get back.. s/l and IAD Rock! Especially when you have great JM's... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  18. Let's just say to everyone my efforts were thwarted for jumping by weather and then by self...lol... But the guys at my dz ROCK! They are the best! Especially when you make an ass out of yourself.. Even if I did try to make it up to them by helping to fix the roof on Rocke's new lounge and falling through it...lol No one told me to stand on the studs.. hahaha Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  19. ONWARD TO THE DROPZONE!!!! Yikes! And it is 630am... Have to try and beat the weather to at least get my one jump in...
  20. Hey Kathleen finally got my first frefall in...lol...It didn't RAIN yesterday and I was in town...Imagine that...hehehehe.. So are you loving it in San Marcos? I know you said you were getting spoiled.. I brought all the rum I gathered up in st. croix to the dz yesterday. It was so freaking hot at least they have a few island beverages to relax with... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  21. I was just up in MN and found a quaint little DZ finished up the job I was on so got sent home early so didn't get to head over there but it is in Waseka,MN . Waseka Skydiving Club they sounded like a real cozy/friendly operation. Here is the number if you would like to give them a call 651-484-2206 . Lots of farmland around the DZ the man told me so lots of room, just depends what you like I guess...Twin Cities is really friendly too I hear.. Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.

And you are right They are they best!!!! I am bringing all the cruzan rum I got in the islands out tomm... Hope to see you there one day.. Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  24. Well I found a neat dz up here in the NE. Kutztown Skydiving in Kutztown, PA. Beautiful drive in from the Jersey/Philly area not really that far either about an hour and 20 minutes.. The people are great and they offer IAD training. So If you are looking for a quaint dz for some blue skies and fun up in the PA/Jersey/Delaware area that is a great place to go... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
  25. Crosskeys is great everyone! Friendly people and great fun..I am soooooooo jealous of their skyvan.. I will definitely have to come back up and jump after I get off of student status and towards my A license... Have always wanted to be a social butterfly but now I have the wind beneath my feet.
