Name that Rack!! (The NEW DZ.com Game) Part 2
gearless_chris replied to Thanatos340's topic in The Bonfire
You dorks! It was a professional photo shoot for a good cause. Not a damn porn mag. See you at Richmond/or whatever takes its place next year? "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole. -
Tandem Doomsday Scenario
gearless_chris replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The dz I started at did static line only, until 2004, when they started tandems also. They also used to put the fun jumpers ahead of the students on manifest. It seemed like most of the students would stick around after their jump back then too. They even used to have 8 way Friday when the students were told to stay home and the second or third 182 would come out for formation loads all night. Once they started cutting fun jumpers for tandems the fun jumpers quit coming around as much, you'll be lucky to get a 4 way together now. I think you'd still see turbine dz's, but they'd be dropping IAD or S/L students instead. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. Also have to watch for the ends of the goggle straps not getting tucked in good after they're tightened. The belly band sometimes gets too tight after they tighten the lowers, I don't like to wait for them to finish throwing up so I can talk to them after landing. Did you get your shoe back? That's the reason I don't fly on my back, can't afford to have students stealing my shoes all the time, and I don't have the skills yet. Are you shooting vertical for tandems or is that cropped? I'm thinking about setting my helmet up for both next year. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

The first one must've caught a whiff of the hog farm. The second was making faces the whole time, but this is my favorite of the series. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

At one of the other 182 dz's I jump at, they dive out with just their left feet on the step. That way the rig stays out of the airstream for the most part. I like it better because the student is facing me on exit, makes for better pictures. They go to 11,000 so IF they tumble a bit there's still plenty of time left. I appreciate not having to hang out on the step as long also. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. At one of my 182 dz's the DZO likes the poised exit for video, because they don't loose a few precious seconds getting stable, the customer gets a better quality video. I seriously doubt Teigen is jumping with a 500mm lens . You could get some nice exit shots from the ground with it though. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole. -
Which SD card to use with Rebel XSi?
gearless_chris replied to penelope's topic in Photography and Video
I noticed that my Rebel XT hits the buffer faster with an Extreme 2 than it did with an Extreme 4. I wish I would've known about the faster downloads too, I might have went with another Extreme 4 after my first one died. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. Line tangle question
gearless_chris replied to Graeme_Coutts's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In a first jump course at one of my dz's they taught that, it's okay if you have to give a little input to go straight, as long as your hands are within one hand length of each other. With 2 malfunctions in 6 jumps you must either be real unlucky, or the dz needs a better packer. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole. -
I thought the material manufacturer quit making Gelvenor a few years ago, and the canopy manufacturers had to switch materials. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole.

Maybe the pack volume changed when they had to go to different material. I don't know what material my Comp Cobalt is, but it's definitely thicker than PD material. Pulling slider down with big steering lines
gearless_chris replied to linebckr83's topic in Gear and Rigging
When I called Precision about mine, they told me 400 lbs. Dacron, but I happened to have 600 lbs. so I used that. You can fingertrap it, then hand sew it and get it bar tacked at your next re-pack. Skyhook: 1 turn of thread (& a photo of 4 turns)

Booth didn't design magnetic riser covers. Atair did. Here is a link to their patent application: http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PG01&s1=atair&s2=magnet&OS=atair+AND+magnet&RS=atair+AND+magnet Atair stole the design after touring the UPT shop, got the patent, then called UPT to get royalties on it. I disagree. I've seen it more than once at different dzs in my few years in the sport. And it was always by the old geezers and usually ended up with a two out/cypress fire. Pulling at 2000 ft was the norm in the old days as I had to re-adjust to the higher altitudes we pull at today. Some of the older guys still pull lower so I can see where with todays canopies you could on occasion get past the arming altitude of a cypress. If I pulled at 2K with my spectre I'm sure it would also get close since its a sniveler. I was conveying that I learned many years ago most of the low pull contest stories were just fairy tales. And when a couple of geezers go low its simply a typical case of loosing track of time and altitude. And I'm saying the instances I witnessed were low pull contests. They didn't outright admit it but you definitely knew by the sheepish looks and subtle comments made when they returned with reserve in hand. I think the low pull contests were/are more common that you want to believe. I know several people that used to do the low pull contests, they don't have CYPRES's. Most of them pull higher now that they have more modern canopies. I'm not in favor of banning swooping, but I understand where the people are coming from that want to. There are far too many people that want to control other peoples lives. I like skydiving because there is still a lot of freedom, for now at least. Hearing protection on ride to altitude..

We stopped using corded ear plugs for the same reason. It was another plant that had the problem so we got rid of them before it became an issue. I'll keep my foam plugs for the whole shift, unless I drop them on the floor, or get them dirty. I don't like the corded plugs anyway, the cord rubbing on stuff bothered me. They have different ratings for how many decibel's they block. I think we use NRR 32's at work, meaning they reduce the noise level by 32 db. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. My momma said I could be anything I wanted when I grew up, so I became an a$$hole. -

I wear my helmet on the way up for noise protection, unless it's really hot. I will take earplugs with me next year for the ride up. I need to check if my jacket has an outside pocket for them, if not I'll have to add one. "If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane.
