The Left (as if it is a monolithic entity) doesn't have a problem with presenting a valid ID to vote. The problem is requiring an ID that people have to pay for, take a test for, travel to get, or otherwise places any burden on them other than going to the polls. The way the Right wants to implement a voter ID is just a backdoor way to a poll tax, which is unconstitutional. - Dan G

Talk about a lack of equivalency. Let me get your position straight: since the Democrats already get most of the Hispanic vote, anything they do that's favorable to amnesty is an attempt to get even more votes, but anything the Republicans do that's favorable to amnesty couldn't possibly be an attempt to draw some voters to the GOP. Makes sense to me. - Dan G

According to you, Reagan's motivation was not votes. Okay, do you believe Obama's motivation for suggesting essentially the exact same program is to create new Democratic voters? If yes, why do you feel that way? What's the difference? And yes, it was an attempt to point out equivalency. And a successful one, I feel, because the situations are pretty much equivalent. - Dan G

Just because someone on the internet says it happens, doesn't mean that it does. I would love to see statistics about illegal alien voting. I predict none will be forthcoming. - Dan G

Is that why Reagan granted mass amnesty? - Dan G

I never said you couldn't express your opinion. I just think your opinion is completely fucking stupid, worthless, and a waste of time. Yes, it's a discussion board, and your contribution to the discussion is criticizing Parachutist for trying to have a discussion with its readers. Who's the hypocrite hero again? - Dan G

The jumper in the cover photo is a USPA member, and it's a cool shot. IMO, not every cover shot needs to be newsworthy. Some covers are picked just because they are great shots, and they are a good format for the cover. The flag shot was an okay picture, and would have been made worse by cropping to fit the cover requirements. The fact that Parachutist chose to include it as the closing picture shows that they are not "un-American". The fact that they chose to ask the membership what they thought shows they are not elistist or out of touch. And the fact that people still feel the need to bitch about any of this shows that people will bitch about anything, as long as they themselves never have to lift a finger and do anything constructive. - Dan G

There's a difference between being patriotic and being a jingoistic, knee-jerk nationalist who thinks that everything that doesn't have flags all over it is anti-American. They put the flag picture in as the closing shot, and then asked the readers if they would have prefered it on the cover. And for their efforts, a bunch of keyboard warriors call them anti-American. Get a life. - Dan G

Okay. I guess you'd prefer they not ask what members prefer. Isn't lack of communication with the membership what people here always bitch about? Now the staff has been making an extra effort to reach out to the membership, and they get slammed for that. One wonders if perhaps people in cyberspace have nothing better to do than bitch about stupid shit. - Dan G

Should the USPA be required to put a flag picture on the cover every July? - Dan G

The way I read it is that the officer just happened to be a homosexual, not that they have a position entitied Homosexual Police Community Support Officer. - Dan G -

Do you have any examples of this? I did a Google search for "obituaries gun registrations" and didn't find anything. Thanks. - Dan G

No, it is not a monster, but it is probably above the skill set of the vast majority of 50-200 jump people. My malfunction on my 190 was not nearly as fast or violent as ones I'd had on much smaller canopies. On the other hand, after maybe five or so rotations I'd reached my hard deck at 1800ft and had to let it go. I think many people with less experience might not realize how fast they are descending, and spend time they don't have thinking they can get that one last twist out. I certainly agree agree. And at thins point I would encourage everyone else reading to take your own advice and ignore what you just said. If you feel that experienced instructors shouldn't give out advice on the internet, what makes you think that you should? Fair enough. If you think I'm puffing out my chest about my jump numbers, you need to go back and re-read what I wrote. The flip side of experienced people talking down to newbies, is newbies getting super defensive what anyone gives them advice at all. Brian is great. But he happens to have tons of experience to back up what he says. He's also always trying to learn, and he'll listen to anyone. You might want to try and emulate that, too. - Dan G

Relax, no one is challenging your manhood. I have about 300 jumps on Stiletto 190's loaded about 1.1:1. Hopefully that's close enough to your loading to be comparable for you. I had to cut one away because of a spinning line twist, so it happens. Although it doesn't happen as fast on a larger canopy (I've had a similar malfunction on a Stiletto 135 loaded at over 1.6:1) it still loses a lot of altitude very quickly. Don't get complacent about your canopy. 25 jumps is nothing. My 190 didn't spin on me until about 250 jumps on it. Let us know again when you have 10 times your experience with that canopy if you're still convinced that it can't spin up on you. - Dan G

Very Christian of you. On another note, a counter-insurgency is not Total War. The tactics and strategy are completely different. - Dan G

Hmmm. If you really think that NASA's climate models are simple blackbody calculations, and they ascribe all of the excess heat to greenhouse gases, then you've really bought into the denier bunk. Read the original "Moon Paper". It is a joke. - Dan G

Obama upset about the oil spill "blame game"... Seriously?

You should read those statement more carefully. Doews not say that the Feds are calling the shots, it says that they are not uninvolved. Does not say that either side is calling the shots, only that the government has the authority to redirect resources if it so desires. It certainly doesn't imply that BP is solely in charge. That doesn't say anything about who's calling the shots, only that BP should be erady to deal with an emergency, and execute when the emergency happens. None of those statements are mutually exclusive or contradictory. - Dan G
