  1. That's funny. All I know is what was linked in the OP, which claims that Beck admitted he lied about holding the document in his hands in order to make his story easier to tell. Of course, the link is to an "article" in the Examiner, which is a total shit source, so who knows. My point is simply that telling falsehoods about things that have happened is different that telling falsehoods about things you hope will happen in the future. - Dan G
  2. I'm going to set aside the issue of whether or not your examples constitute lies. Can you at least admit that there is a differernce in lying about something that has already happened ("I held the document in my hands") and something that may happen in the future ("this bill will lower the deficit")? Glenn Beck knew he was lying about what he said. Can you at least allow that? - Dan G
  3. But the violence is not actually getting worse. The statistics just don't support that. It's been trumped up for political points. - Dan G
  4. Was that necessary? It's not even funny. - Dan G
  5. Are you making a distinction with the previous administration? Or implying that the current administration is intentianally understaffing more than the previous administration? - Dan G

    Aviation Forums

Anyone know of any aviation related forums similar to dropzone.com? I've looked around and the only ones that seem to be active at all are the manufacturer specific ones. - Dan G
  7. I personally don't agree with taking children that young on tandems, but I do agree that the litigious culture in the US is out of control. I don't have kids, so I can't really relate. Please don't take this the wrong way, because I mean no disrespect, but if your friend had messed up the landing with your son and the boy had died, would you have not blamed the TI? How about the boy's mother? Would you have blamed yourself? It is always a tragedy when someone dies skydiving, but at least with adults they can understand the rsks and take personal responsibility for their choices. Children can't. - Dan G
  8. Have you ever run a dropzone? I'm guessing not. I'll bet you'd quickly fall into the "not so brave" category if you could lose all your assets because one of your employees turned to low one time. If you want to bitch, bitch at the lawyers and the legal system. - Dan G
  9. I agree that the rules don't make a lot on sense. I think one reason that DZ's are not willing to take people under the age of majority even though 14 year olds can fly gliders is that the FAA has specifically said that 14 years olds can fly gliders. The government has given no guidance on skydiving. The safe bet (for those people who are "not so brave") is to use the generally accepted age of majority. I think if the FAA had a regulation saying that people must be 14 years old to skydive, then dropzones might be more willing to take younger people. And yeah, 17 years old is not an infant, but people from other countries have posted videos of four year olds on tandems, so it's just a matter of time before someone takes their baby skydiving. - Dan G
  10. I guess you missed my point. Shocker. It's not the nanny state keeping you from taking an infant on a tandem, it's all the people who have to put their savings accounts on the line if you do it and go in. Even parents who sign a waiver will sue your ass (and everyone else's ass who are even remotely involved) for "killing" little Johnny. The government doesn't care how old your student is, but tandems don't affect just the tandem instructor and student, there are a lot of other people who have to help make it happen, and most of those people are smart enough to know that it's not worth it. - Dan G
  11. You can take a child as young as you want on a tandem in the US. There are no laws from the "Nanny State" that say you can't. Just open your own dropzone so all the potential liability is yours, design, build and get certified your own tandem system so all the liability is yours, and find a willing pilot and plane owner. Then go for it! Whee. - Dan G
  12. I was going to try to explain why that might be a bad idea, but I think it would be better for you to think it through. Think about what would happen if you held the slider, cut away, and the main snagged the reserve slider. What would you do next? What if you cut away and the main snagged another part of the reserve (line cascade, fabric, etc). You won't have the clarity of mind or time to think through all the possibilities if this actually happens, so it's a good idea to think through it now and come up with a general plan. - Dan G
  13. With that much hate and rage in his heart, I fucking hope he's behind the wire. If markharju has any interaction with Muslims at all in his position, he should be removed and sent back to the States. - Dan G
  14. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, because it does, but I very much doubt he ever saw anything of the sort. I spent 18 months in Afghanistan and never saw a single woman or child being beaten, raped or killed. The idea that is it happenning all over the place, all the time, is a construct of the Western mind. - Dan G
  15. When has anyone from the American Left embraced state support of Islam? Saying people should be allowed to worship as they wish is not promoting state supported religion. - Dan G
  16. Not saying that there was nothing going on at the Dar al-Hijrah mosque because I have no idea, but Hasan was stationed at Walter Reed (about 20 minutes from Great Falls) before moving to Texas. If he traveled back there after being stationed at Ft. Hood, you may have a point, but your implication that he went out of his way to go there seems unsupported. - Dan G
  17. Not a decision, just an opinion piece printed in Canada. - Dan G
  18. Hmm, so this problem today isn't any different from a century ago. Why is this such a hot button issue then? Could it be because it is an election year? - Dan G
  19. That's exactly what a very large number of people are saying. Hence the problem. If all people were saying was, "Gosh, I don't like the idea," then there wouldn't be a problem. In fact, many people across the country are actively trying to prevent them from expanding their mosquee, and preventing other mosques from being built as far away as Tennessee. - Dan G
  20. I must have missed the thread when you complained about this program during the eight years it was running under GWB. Could you provide a link? Thanks.
  21. My God, the world has seen a new paradigm of irony. This is such bullshit I don't even know where to start. And even if I respond, I know whatever I say will be twisted, you will redefine words to mean things they don't, claim that you meant something that you didn't say, and then start a new thread as if the old one didn't exist. It's pointless, but everyone with any sense knows you are blowing a record amount of smoke on this one. - Dan G
  22. And all that has fuck-all to do with a mosque two blocks from ground zero. - Dan G
  23. This is a hell of a turn around. The right wing, complaining about insensitive use of language... Now what were your complaints about political correctness again? - Dan G
