I've had karate instructors, military instructors, flight instructors, glass blowing instructors, academic instructors, and skydiving instructors. The OP probably has had lots of contact with instructors, too. There is a lot more to the world than skydiving. - Dan G

Anytime a Democrat (or anyone for that matter) suggested that Congress pull the plug they were swiftly accused of abandoning the trrops, being "with" the terrorists, hating America, etc. I can't believe you actually think that the Iraq war has lasted as long as it has because of the blue side of the aisle. - Dan G

I'm pretty sure the President doesn't give two mouse shits about M1's from Korea. It was the OP that wanted to imply he did. - Dan G

So, your metrics for lack of effectiveness are: 1. We might not get something done in ten years. 2. Earmarks went up. 3. You don't like the HC bill. In response: 1. Let's wait ten years for that one. 2. Okay, one out of three aint bad. 3. The HC bill ight be an example of bad policy, but ramming it through Congress is certainly proof of effectiveness, not the opposite. Anti-Obama people seem to want to have two contradictory narratives running at the same time: a) he's ineffective and can't get sanything done, and b) he's ramming too many things through. You can't have it both ways. - Dan G

I've asked this before and never received a reply, but I'll try again. Can you cite some example's of what you perceive as Obama's inefffectiveness? Thanks. - Dan G

Agree about working on your belly, but don't neglect your canopy skills. Those are the skills that will keep you alive. - Dan G

You ask, you owe. It's that simple. Skydiving's not just about jumping. Over the years I've probably had more fun after hours at the DZ that during daylight. When you look at it realistically, skydiving is just a hobby, it doesn't define who you are as a person. That's defined by your friendships and how you treat other people. Buy your beer, and buy it proudly. - Dan G

Gravity Gear shop and other crapy shops?
DanG replied to Lok's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Although the OP clearly has not dealt with this issue well, in all fairness to him, the scam description on that page is all about how money senders get screwed by using Western Union, not money receivers. - Dan G -

Landing a plane vs landing a parachute
DanG replied to gofast_ER's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
From my very limited experience, only acrobatic and jump pilots generally wear parachutes when they fly. Skydiving rigs are very uncomfortable in the pilot's seat, and most pilot's don't own pilot rigs unless they are requierd to have them. Of course, more and more light sport planes are coming equiped with airframe parachutes, so that might change the dynamic on when people chose to dead stick a landing, and when they just pop the chute. My flight instructor was giving a VFR checkride recently to a doctor who owned a Cirrus with an airframe chute. My instructor noted that the doctor's landing patterns were very wide. He suggested that the doctor tighten up the pattern so he could still make the field if his engine went out. "Oh, if that happens I'll just pull the chute." Scary. - Dan G -
Landing a plane vs landing a parachute
DanG replied to gofast_ER's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've got 1899 jumps and only about 40 hours flying. I'd stay in the plane and land it every time. Of course, the fact that I don't wear a parachute when I fly makes that decision pretty easy. - Dan G -
Jihadi Meetingplace shut Down in Germany; 9/11 Conspirators Gathered There
DanG replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
That just gets a big, "Huh?" Where are you getting your information? Here's some info from Wiki (yeah, I know Wikipedia sucks): The article does go on to list criticisms of Rauf, but they really don't have much substance. They center around the fact that he believes that US foreign policy contributed to 9/11, and that he wouldn't come out in a particular interview and say that Hamas is a terrorist organization. He's obviously a very intelligent man, and like most intelligent people, he understands that the world is rarely black and white. I guess you could fault him for emphasizing the grey too much, but otherwise he seems like the kind of Muslim that the US should be working with. I haven't seen anything that wasn't from Newsmax or a right wing blogger that ties him to terrorism. If you know of something, please enlighten us. - Dan G -

Jihadi Meetingplace shut Down in Germany; 9/11 Conspirators Gathered There
DanG replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
Sure, and when you said that they would soon have one in NYC, you meant that they would soon have a mosque tied to terrorism (even thought it isn't). Everyone knows what you said and what you meant. There's no point in playing the Speaker's Corner Parse Game (TM). - Dan G -
Jihadi Meetingplace shut Down in Germany; 9/11 Conspirators Gathered There
DanG replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
Except you didn't say that, you said: So you've already decided that the proposed mosque in NYC will be used to support terrorism, even though it a) hasn't been built yet, and b) will be run by a mullah who is quite moderate. Really? That's what you're going with? I'll put my enemy fighting credentials against yours anyday. Current GWOT aside, fighting people who seek to trample nine of the first ten amendments (preserving the 2nd, of course) counts as fighting America's true enemies in my book. - Dan G -
Nope. How about you? Or would you prefer to do exactly what you criticized me for? - Dan G

Yeah, I can't believe no one posted about this for 11 whole minutes. - Dan G

Yeah, if we get rid of all the freedoms we enjoy (especially the unpopulal ones like religion, speech, assembly), at least they won't be able to, "hate us because of our freedoms." Good plan. - Dan G -
There's a big difference in blind faith, and faith based on experimental evidence. Religious people have blind faith. Science is based on the latter. I think if you looked at the historical documents, it would be hard to find a scientist who declared after a discovery that they had everything figured out, and that there was nothing left to learn. In other words, when they discovered (and demonstrated) the existence of atoms, no one said, "Okay guys, pack up the labs, nothing more to discover." Scientific minds are open to conitual learning and discovery. It is religions that declare they know it all and there is no more truth to be had. Anyway, I posted the link in rebuttal to your argument up-thread that something can't come from nothing. I've shown that to be false, so you need to come up with a different argument to base your (blind) belief in the supernatural on. - Dan G

My first rig was a 1984 Racer, Fury-220, and 26' reserve. I actually did sell it to someone to make a salt water jump. He actually only wanted the main, but I made him take the whole thing for $100. It was a steaming pile of shit, but the whole rig only cost me $600 (in 1996) and lasted a whole 40 jumps before being grounded for harness damage (that my original rigger didn't inform me of). - Dan G

I'm not sure what search you did, but I've replied to rushmc dozens of times over the years. You obviously had to read through a bunch of replies before you found two that you thought supported your position. What are you talking about? YOU MADE THE FUCKING MISTAKE!!! You chided me for another poster's words. When I pointed out that I wasn't the person you should be chiding you decided to show that I had done something remotely similar months ago. All I said in this thread was that I hadn't commented on his spelling or mis-linking. In fact, I've never called anyone out for spelling (do that search if you want) and I only call people out on linking things when their links don't support their argument. Anyway, you win. Your superior debate skills have clearly proven rushmc's assertion that leftist groups are the only hate groups that have recently been acting out. Well done (golf clap). - Dan G
-
Wow. You win, if you have enough free time to do searches on posts I made to another poster in other threads from months ago just to come up with a couple of quotes to support a mistake you clearly made, you have much more free time than I do. You've beaten me into submission, congrats. - Dan G

As I recall, the video doesn't show anything like an organized "beating". It is low level fisticuffs. Okay, so we can strike that one off the list. I stand corrected. My Google-fu was weak today. Either way, not exactly what I'd call a big deal. No, what he said was: That was in response to Amazon's long (too long to quote here) post about right wing hate groups. Someone else used the word terrorism, but I'm okay with hate group if you want to pick nits. Still would. And I haven't called out anyone for spelling errors or link posting, you must have me confused with someone who did. - Dan G

Well, then what were you talking about? Or would you like to retract your statement? - Dan G
