  1. Do you understand that there is a difference between these two statements: 1. There are some people who don't like Obama because of his race. and, 2. "...anytime anyone who doesn't agree with the president must be RACIST!!!" - Dan G
  2. The car's strength is acceleration. 0-60 in 5.1sec, and excellent acceleration when already at speed. It didn't look like she was taking advantage of that. She certainly could have out run those Capitol police cars if she'd found a straightaway. Given where this occured, she probably could have found some open lanes on Constitution Ave heading West and gotten a good lead on them. If she made it 14th street and there wasn't trafic on the bridge, that car would excel on the relatively straight GW parkway. Is that what you were looking for? - Dan G
  3. I do like my car. I was just making a joke. Probably inappropriate. - Dan G
  4. Yes, it was a Nissan. Infiniti G37 Coupe, to be exact. I drive the same car she used. I would have gotten away. - Dan G
  5. I'd just like to point out that she had excellent taste in vehicles. - Dan G
  6. The government will give subsidies for people who earn up to a certain number times the poverty level. I think for people with kids, it is up to 4x the poverty level. If you make less than that, then you'll get some help. The coverage will be free only if you don't make that much more than poverty. I don't know all the detail because (like most people) I already have health insurance. - Dan G

    Obamacare ?

Your stereotyping is out of control. I'm pretty sure you'd (wrongly) characterize me as a liberal. I'm a combat vet. Are you sure you want to exempt me from paying taxes? You should know, however, that combat wounded vets do not pay income tax on their disability pay, and not on their retirement pay if they retired due to permanent disability. - Dan G
  8. Guess we'll just have to make a new batch of homebrew. - Dan G
  9. Here we go. Where's rickjump1 when you need him? - Dan G
  10. Which party do I "go along with"? I've voted for Rs as much as Ds. - Dan G
  11. Did you even read what I wrote? - Dan G
  12. No, I get help from my employer, as do you. Guess who employs Congressional staffers? - Dan G
  13. Staffers are just government employees, with health insurance through their employer. People who have health insurance through their employer don't need to buy insurance on their own. All this "secret deal" did was clarify that legislative employees were in the same class as everyone else in the country. The fact that your source is the National Review is telling. - Dan G
  14. I believe in cause and effect, yes. That's not religion. I think your boiling down of religion is far too simplified. If religion stopped at, "we came from somewhere," then people wouldn't be killing each other over it. Religion (at least Abrahamaic ones) divide people into us and them, believers and infidels, good and evil. No, it means that I don't believe that we were designed by a higher power, and need to live our lives according to His will. That's it. You're hung up on this notion of something from nothing, but that's really not the root of it all. Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, sent from heaven to take on the sins of humanity, and only though Him can you enter into heaven? No? How can you take such an absolutist position without proof? How can you know for sure that isn't the truth? What about Vishnu? Or Odin? Or Allah? How can you take such an absolutist position that they are not the one true God? Your beliefs (what ever they are) leave no room for interpretation either, you just don't seem to see it. Logic is all I have. Just because you don't follow the logic doesn't mean it isn't there. I think you misunderstand atheism. I don't wake up in the morning and think, "Today I'm going to hate God and religious people. Nothing anyone says can convince me otherwise." There's no active hate like the KKK. Frankly, I'd drop the hate group thing, it's pretty offensive. Atheist are as sure of their position as religious people are of theirs. Why is one extreme and not the other? Since religion is man's creation, you can't separate the two like that. Really? I think most religious people would disagree. They seem to know quite well what God is like, and how he expects us to behave. Yes. Yes. Same way you're concluded there are no unicorns. I agree. - Dan G
  15. For somebody who believes the above right wing lie, it's kind of ironic to them make a statement like: - Dan G
  16. It's exactly the same thing. What's more extreme? Saying that there is no God, or saying that the one particular set of books, written hundreds or thousands of years ago, describes a very particular diety and his opinions on things, and any other thoughts on religion are wrong? WTF? My believe that there is no God is nothing at all like a hate group. You really need to explain that one. My guess is that "what they stand for" in your mind is the extremist version. What most atheists stand for is nothing (at least as far as religion goes). How is nothing extremist? No, it uses logic. Faith is what religious people use. Atheists, by definition, lack faith. As do I. Seems to me its religious people that generally have trouble keeping the standards they claim to strive for. - Dan G
  17. There are extremist Athiests just like there are extremist Muslims. Don't let the actions of the extremists define the group. - Dan G
  18. You should read your own posts more often. They are about 50% personal attacks. You seem completely devoid of intellectual curiosity. I brought up what I though was an interesting side note on the 2nd Amendment wording, and you go into attack mode. It would suprise me not one bit to learn you were a paid NRA troll. We really need an ignore poster option here. - Dan G
  19. Nope: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/occidental.asp and nope: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/passport.asp - Dan G
  20. It's called have a fucking discussion. You should try it sometime. - Dan G
  21. That's one way of looking at it. I didn't say he was breaking the law. I just said he was making an ass of himself. There were many more productive ways he could have proceeded, especially considering his filibuster wasn't even a real filibuster. You can simultaneously be acting within the legal system, and be an ass. - Dan G
  22. Here we go. Your reply was not generic, but I don't care to argue semantics with you. It is interesting to note, however, that the 2nd says the right of the people ... shall not be infringed. It doesn't say citizens. A literal interpretation would imply that illegal aliens have the same right to be armed as any citizen. - Dan G
  23. I don't have an ilk. I do, however, enjoy milk. I think elk are really amazing creatures. Ilk? No interest. - Dan G
  24. I didn't disagree with her stance. In fact, I supported her stance. I've never commented on her stunt in the Texas legislature. I don't live in Texas, and never would, so I frankly don't give a shit if she wastes the time of the Texas legislature. I do, however, live in America, and don't enjoy watching one doofus waste the time of the US Senate for no other reason that looking good to his right wing base. If it were a Democrat doing a stupid fauxlibuster over something I agreed with, I'd feel the same way. How about you? Do you support Cruz's antics, but not Davis's? - Dan G
  25. We've hashed this out here many times. If you count giving to your church as charitable giving, then you're right. Of course, is it really charitable to give money so the church can buy the pastor a new Caddy? - Dan G
