  1. Nah...I'm comfortable that it seems appropriately sized. I'll take it for a H+P first, or maybe a 5-7 second delay. If it slams me then, I'll reconsider my next move. "When once you have tasted flight..."
  2. Thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna just jump it as is, I'm confident now that everything adds up and seems to be right. I guess I just needed convincing or a bit of reassurance. Plus, now that I've measured it, it really doesn't seem "that" much smaller than another. I think my Katana slider may just be huge, so I'm used to seeing that. MillerTime may also be right that the large "banner" on the slider is an illusion, making it look so much smaller. Thanks! "When once you have tasted flight..."
  3. Ok, so here is some additional info. It was a little bigger than I had initially indicated, but still pretty small in my eyes Slider Measurements: 23" x 14" See pictures for more detail. Pic #1 Slider Measurement - 22" (unstretched) Pic#2 Winder band is bottom skin on nose, narrow band is...you get it. Pic#3 Self explanatory "When once you have tasted flight..."
  4. I thought it could be the hybrid and that's what I was hoping to determine. -It's only got one bridle attachment, no slide rings -The lines ARE cascaded, I understand the Hybrid is not cascaded -The slider size leads me to believe it's for sub-terminal openings -It's a 99, which I assume is not a Typical size for an "everyday" canopy, but more of a full on CReW canopy for a small person with lead -I believe the leading edge IS reinforced with what I recall being similar to a pullup cord type material, but a bit stiffer. -It packs up WAY bigger than my 9 cell, Katana 97 (granted it only has 50 jumps versus my Katana with probably 1000) I'll open it up again tonight and take some pictures and measurements etc... 5. Hey everyone, I just bought a used Triathlon 99 for wingsuiting and I'm baffled by how small the slider actually is. My Katana 97's slider is at least double, maybe close to triple the surface area. I'll have to actually measure it, but as a rough measurement, I'm guessing it's about 18" x 10". Can anyone confirm if this seems ridiculously small, or is it relative to the canopy size? I checked the forums and could only find the slider size for a Tri 190 and it was 19" x 30". An awfully big difference... I'm afraid to wingsuit with it in case it was actually a CReW slider meant for sub-terminal only or something (I know nothing about CreW)...The canopy lines are cascaded, so I'm assuming it's not strictly a CReW canopy. Just want to know if I should invest in a new slider or...test it out... Thanks Edit to add: Found this thread, and that's an awfully big difference, but it is a considerably large canopy... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=433753;search_string=tri%20slider;#433753 "When once you have tasted flight..."
  6. Relax man, I just replied to the last post, recommending a handy program to resize photos. It wasn't directed specifically to you. "When once you have tasted flight..."
  7. If you're on a PC, I use a very simple application called photo gadget picture resize. It's free and simPle to use, simply right click one or many pictures and choose resize, then pick he size. Awesome app. "When once you have tasted flight..."
  8. Hey Johan, I'll be loading the 99 at about 1.45;. I'm not the one who indicated it was boring though..I'm just looking for a safe ride down. I've got my Katana 97 when I want to have some fun, and maybe 2 rides per jump....haha Thanks for your post, I was hoping to see some people jumping smaller Tri's at a higher W/L. 9. So it's common practice to build a DEMO suit with a BASE pouch? Seems counter productive...no? If it was a V3 I could understand a bit more, but on a Phantom, the Intermediate suit that many instructors will put a FJC student on? Maybe for resale value for a BASE jumper, but still... "When once you have tasted flight..."
  10. Thanks man, I have no interest in using it, unless it actually made it safer. By the sounds of it, it may make it safer for me, but not for the plane or others around me. I'm cool with keeping it standard. Is your profile pic a P2 as well? "When once you have tasted flight..."
  11. Interesting, this suit is a P2, but belonged to a Phoenix Fly Coach, maybe it was special order? Question remains...I'm assuming I can use my normal BOC, even if the suit has a BASE pouch? "When once you have tasted flight..."
  12. That looks just like the picture I uploaded, no? "When once you have tasted flight..."
  13. OK, with all this talk about BASE pouches, I'm curious what exactly it is. I've attached a picture of the wingsuit I just bought, and I'm looking at it just to the right of where my hackey would be and I see a "pocket". I'm not sure if this is a base pouch, or if it's just they way it's sitting and it's actually the lateral entrance. Comments? Also, if it is a base pouch, can it be there and simply not used? I'm guessing yes, but want to be sure. Thanks! "When once you have tasted flight..."
  14. Thanks for the offer! I can actually find a few canopies around $1000, but I'm hoping to spend around $600 max...The Triathlon I've found is in my acceptable price range and only has
  15. Hahah. Well, if I get bored and want to spice things up, I'll throw my Katana 97 in for a wingsuit jump or two. IN all seriousness, I am thinking that the Triathlon will do exactly what I want of it. A safe ride to the ground, preceded by a soft'ish, non spinny, line twisty opening (even though it is a 99). 16. If I could find a Pilot or Sabre2 or a Spectre for less than $1000 and 111sq ft or smaller, I would jump all over it. I've found a couple Spectres for less than 1000, but they either need linesets, or have thousands of jumps and people still want $900 for them. Ideally, I'd love to get a Spectre 107 "When once you have tasted flight..."
  17. Hey everyone, I did some searching in the forums, but I'm not finding anything specifically for my question. I'm wondering if anyone would "recommend" jumping a Triathlon while wingsuiting. I've jumped a Spectre 120, and a Sabre 2 135, but I'm looking at a Triathlon as I no longer have the Spectre or Sabre. I'm really only concerned with hard openings...My main goal when buying and jumping canopies is to ensure I always get the one known for soft openings. I know the Triathlon is far from being one of the "softest" opening canopies, but it's the only one I can find so far that will fit my container for a decent price. Just looking for people's opinions on the Triathlon for wingsuiting. Thanks! "When once you have tasted flight..."
  18. Great, Thanks for the info everyone! This answers my questions, and I am soon to be the proud new owner of a Phantom2! @DSE: FWIW, I do have 40 WS jumps, I'm just buying a used suit. I simply wanted to know the difference was before I committed to the deal. Like I said, I had the option of a P2 or a P2z. Thanks! "When once you have tasted flight..."
  19. Thanks DSE, I'm looking at buying a used suit and essentially have the choice between a 2z and a 2. I prefer the 2 as it should be a better fit, but I want to know if I'm giving anything essential up. Does the 2 have backfly inlets? Thanks! "When once you have tasted flight..."
  20. Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a wingsuit, but I was hoping I could get a bit more info on the difference on what I'd be buying. I'm wondering what the differences between the Phantom2 and Phantom2z are, aside from the rig connection method (zipper vs "threading") Is the 2z different? Revised? Airlocked vs not airlocked, legwing size, reinforcements, anything? Thanks! "When once you have tasted flight..."
  21. Have you tried calling the DZ to see if they have arrangements with a local taxi company or if they have a shuttle, or anything like that? "When once you have tasted flight..."
  22. You know...I still don't understand why people think deploying in a track will cause linetwists or other issues. Deploying in a track will cause nothing but a different deployment angle, relative to the earth. Instead of being vertical, you're now deploying, maybe 45 degrees from vertical and transitioning to vertical via gravity. The relative wind is what matters, remember your FJC? Relative wind is not vertical when you exit, why would the angle of your track be any different? I consistently pitch from a solid track jumping while my Spectre 120, Cobalt 105, or my Katana 97...it opens identical to my belly to earth deployments. "When once you have tasted flight..."
  23. Cool, so it definitely was a fair bit lower than you're used to due to the line twists. Thanks again! I'm done my info gathering! haha "When once you have tasted flight..."
  24. Figured as much, thanks for replying. Honestly, I can't say for certain what I would have done in the heat of the moment either, just wanted your thoughts. I suspect that you wouldn't have even considered chopping had it been opened correctly at that level, so I thought it odd, why not try a control check. Do you normally open at that altitude, or was this a bit lower opening due to the step-through etc..? Sorry for misquoting you too, I totally thought you said that, but after re-reading I see that it wasn't you. My bad. "When once you have tasted flight..."
  25. Thanks for sharing the video! I'm not trying to critique in this response, I'm honestly trying to learn/understand your reasoning behind chopping. You mentioned above that "landing a Crossfire loaded at 1.9 is a bit different animal and you had very little time to do a control check". While I understand that your hard-deck is exactly that, and you made a good choice, I'm curious since your canopy was flying straight and steady, I'd MUCH rather land a step-through, which has nearly no impact on the flight characteristics of the canopy, than to risk chopping it and maybe not having a good reserve. Or, maybe let me say it this way. In this exact same scenario had you deployed a good canopy at that same altitude, would you still chop it because you were at your hard deck and didn't have much time to do a control check, or would you control check, then decide? Again, don't take this as a flame, I'm just curious on the logic. Also, I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing on how a step through would affect landing capability. Thanks!
