  1. That said, I think any soldiers guilty of misconduct should be fully prosecuted!!! I do not know if you are a soldier or not, or have been; if not you might want to take a walk in their boots for a 4 year hitch before possibly taking out of context their actions in a war zone and holding them accountable to the same standards that apply to civilian or non war situations. 2. One thing that keeps coming up, talking with people I meet who work in the electrical power provider industry here in the USA is that actually switching over to alternative power sources is going to be tough due to something I had not considered and it is this- to build an alternative power plant to power a city we would have to build the alternative plant and also continue to operate the existing coal/gas fired plant of the same kilowatt output capacity for the times when the production of the alternative plant goes below the needs of the city. These other sources of power are not at this time steady enough to provide the high quality (steady voltage, current and frequency) uninterrupted power that we now enjoy here in the USA, so both plants will have to be up and running at all times, for the foreseeable future until the reliability problems are solved. 3. TO hell with the environment. I want to jump out of fossil fuel burning aircraft! And drive my gas guzzling pickup. And my 300 hp MerCruiser I/O ski boat. Seriously, when Mother Nature quits screwing up the ozone layer with volcanic eruptions, and trashing our coastal cities with hurricanes and tsunamis, I will get on the band wagon and start trying to have an effect on this planet. Until then I will do my best not to abuse my environment, with a logical level of deference to the realities of our modern existence. Nature has far more power to change our environment than all of us put together have to reverse those changes or make changes of our own on any grand scale. Unless.... we all agree to follow Ted Turner's plan to reduce the population of the world to a max of 700,000 people and go back to an agrarian structure sans use of fossil fuels. 6 billion of us will have to commit suicide to implement this plan and stop mankind's impact on this planet. Any volunteers? Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  4. QuoteI have one simple question. Why would anyone practise a particular faith if they did not believe it was the true faith? If you're practising a religion you don't believe in, you're an idiot. Chris, I had not actually thought of it in just those terms, but you are absolutely right! Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  5. An enlightened forward thinker might consider WHY the NRA is a powerful organization. It could be because they have the interests and financial backing of millions of members, and if the truth be known, a majority of law abiding Americans, behind them. They are as viable and useful an organization as any that exists in this country, and that is what pisses off those who do not agree with them. I am glad that those of us with no conscience can still safely have our opinions in this land. The statement that the NRA supports machine guns for criminals is just WRONG. The NRA has done more for promoting gun safety than any organization in this country, and that is not an opinion but a FACT that is easily proven, which also pisses off the opposing factions. 6. I don't think that banning any kind of weapon (icicles have been used in murders as a weapon, should we ban ice making machines?) will resolve the real problem. Violence is the SYMPTOM of a problem, not the problem itself. Obama is at least correct on that point, but the popular leftist cry of "eliminate guns, eliminate the problem" is dead wrong. It has been proven wrong in every country that has effectively eliminated guns for the majority of law abiding citizens, and the crime and violence histories remain basically unchanged, because almost anything can be used as deadly weapon. We cannot ban everything. Maybe part of the answer is banning idiotic politicians. Crap, that would be all of them in both parties.... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  7. I checked into it when I was 20, decided the equipment was too unreliable and went back to racing dirtbikes(MUUUCH SAFER). Went through AFF with my oldest son in 2003 at the rather advanced age of 45, I am now a B licensed jumper and he stopped at 5 skydives to join the Marine Corp. How about you, Keri? 8. The Catholic church has always had this opinion, as they trace their roots back to Peter as the first Pope, being "ordained" by Jesus as the Rock or foundation of the Christian church. I believe that to be a misinterpretation and misrepresentation of the scripture. Whatever God Almighty has meant for good, we humans can screw up beyond all recognition. The best example of that statement that I can point to is "religion". Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  9. I jump a Parasport Evo in warm weather and a Bonehead Mamba in cold weather. I have not noticed any vision problems in a sitfly with the Mamba, and it sure is nice when the air is cold. And as previously stated, when you need to hear your dytter, the full face helmet is quieter and you can turn down the volume on your audible. My opinion is that the Mamba, being carbon fiber, is a superior full face to the others because it is lighter, and with the extra material present on any full face helmet, weight is a consideration. 10. Skydiving is a high-end motor sport (aircraft)....and is one of the cheaper motor sports. This is the essence of the cost of skydiving! I have people all the time that whine at me about how they would never skydive because of the cost. I ask them to show me a MOTORSPORT that is not expensive, and I usually get a blank stare. "What motor? All you have is your parachute!" Then I try as diplomatically as possible to point out that the aircraft that we jump out of has one or two rather large, fuel guzzling engines so that I can get up far enough from the earth to jump out and use my "parachute"!!! It is still one of the lower cost motorsports around (to participate in). Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  11. [Uh....go see the film before making such silly statements. At least 10% of the film takes place in Canada. You make my point about Mr. Moore, Douglas. The Canadian healthcare system is in shambles...anyone that reports truthfully about their situation would have to show the bad side of their system as well as the "good" side. I don't have to go see that movie to have a pretty good idea that Moore probably does not honestly report on the fact that the Canadian healthcare system shuts down about December 10th every year because they are out of money until Jan. 1. He probably does not report on the tens of thousands of more affluent Canadians who after paying outrageous income taxes to fund their inefficient healthcare system still come to the United States every year to have needed surgeries and other medical care because they are tired of waiting for an operation or even an appointment to see a doctor for their condition because they are low on the list of rationed care recipients. If he touts the virtues of the Canadian system but leaves out the downside of the "sickos" of the Canadian system, then he is again a LIAR and a SPIN DOCTOR, not an honest crusader for justice. 12. The original Christian traditional hymn is one that is still sung in churches of Christ to this day. It is a simple song that laments the Jewish captivity in Babylon and their captor's demand for music when they really had nothing to rejoice about; and is also a prayer to God that the meditations of their hearts and the words of their mouths be acceptable to the Almighty. 13. [ Let me guess....you have health insurance. Am I right? OF COURSE I have health insurance. I got an education and got into a trade 30 years ago, that provides me with the wherewithal to AFFORD health insurance ( BTW, I pay $17,000+ per year premiums out of my hard earned wages for my health insurance) so that I can take care of myself and my family when it comes to healthcare. Anyone that does not have health insurance in the face of today's healthcare costs is not dealing in reality. And I don't buy that crap that it is not affordable. I did without things like skydiving until my children were almost grown so that I could afford health insurance and therefore provide proper care for my family. I am not saying it is not expensive, I am saying we always seem to AFFORD what is most important to us. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  14. It is hard for me to find the words to properly express my gratitude to all of you who have served in the military. We are all free because of you. Thank you does not seem to cut it, but THANK YOU. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  15. There isnt a Marine in the world that will call his weapon a..."gun". Better call your sons and get it right. Semper Fi Sorry! I stand corrected! Deadliest weapon in the world- A Marine and his RIFLE Bozo - are you a Marine? Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  16. Michael Moore should go to Canada and talk to the people there who can't get any decent healthcare in a timely fashion before making a movie that claims that we should nationalize our healthcare system like the Canadians so that everyone can be covered. What a damn idiot. It stands to reason that if you add 40 million more people to a system who are not going to pay for the services they will receive from that system, the only thing that will happen is a great decline in the quality and quantity of services for all participants, whether you are providing healthcare or popsicles. Moore is a Moron. I for one am proud of the fact that the USA as a whole has not yet succumbed to the socialist pressure to have a socialized healthcare system, even when all the idiots keep stating that we are the only developed nation in the world without socialized medical care. That is because we are smart enough to look at the abysmal failure of the healthcare systems of Germany, France, England, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Russia, ETC ETC ETC in providing anything close to the ideal of proper healthcare for all. Moore's pandering to the left and gross misinformation and spin doctoring of every subject he has ever documented makes him a liar and a fool, not a crusader for justice. 17. Good for John Lovell!!! Justice was done at that Subway. Both my sons are Marines, and they have a couple of sayings: A Marine: Your best friend or your worst enemy... The deadliest weapon on earth- A Marine and his gun Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  18. Great post Zing. Well said. I have witnessed the same thing as a boy, at airshows where an airshow pilot buddy of my dad would release an American flag from his Citabria as part of his act, and it would flow down to the ground fully unfurled (small delta wing on the top leading edge, sandbag on the bottom). It was a small flag by today's standards, but still big enough to impress the crowds back then. I saw the act three times over a five year period, and not once did the ground crew ever completely catch the flag and keep it totally off the ground. He told my dad later that the reason he took that out of his act was the criticism he received from observers about his disrespect for our flag, even though the ground crew apparently caught the flag an average of 80% of the time. 19. I always put my toggles back on the risers first thing when I land. Then I remove my rig and check for /straighten brake line twists at the packing area, set my brakes, unstow my slider and cock my pilot chute, every time in the same order. That way, all the "housekeeping" is done whether I pack it or not. Come to think of it, nobody else ever packs for me. I guess I am just hoping for some day when I am rich enough to afford a packer. 20. I heard about Olaf Zipser (Zipster?) breaking both arms in the wind tunnel at Orlando. Even the wind tunnel will bite you if you don't manage the risk. Ain't no free lunch... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  21. Hey Nick, I WAS kidding! I think Scoop and I have a similar sense of humor, even if you guys on that side of the pond spell it different! Now that I know what a minger is, I can use that term to confuse countless people all across America who will not know whether I am complimenting or insulting them. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  22. I don't think you qualify as a minger. And I should know. I have looked at your face from 0 to 125 mph more than once. Rude brats, these skydiving Brits. But that hairdo, that would be a cool skydiving pic if you could get it to hold on an RW jump... Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  23. Money or no money I would not have sex with that dumb ass chick. Let alone MARRY her. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  24. Damn, John. Remind me not to piss you off even from a long ways away. Fine groups there despite the wind! Oh, and back on the subject, I have guns for all of the reasons listed, and because I can. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
  25. Hey Moody, Teach her from the SIM. You might just get her into skydiving! Seriously, you have gotten some great advice here. Read to her if she does not read English. That will get her to hearing you pronounce, inflect, etc and she will have questions. I personally would find out if she has a book she wants to read, if not, try a timeless classic like Moby Dick. Move on from there. Just burning a hole in the sky.....
