  1. That's right. I can admit it. I'm a dumb American who wants to see something beyond this little bubble I've lived in. Okay, so I'm not completely sheltered, but I'm not exactly a world traveler (just an aspiring world traveler.) So, help a dumb American out. I want to take a trip overseas Give me some advice! I'll give you some more info to give you an idea of what I'm looking for. -I stayed in England/Scotland for about 6 weeks, so I'd like to go somewhere else (although, Scotland was beautiful.) -Is it cheesey to want to go to Dublin for St. Patty's Day? Actually, I've been wanting to visit Ireland for many years....has anyone been on one of those bike/pub tours? That's what I'd like to do! -A train tour through Europe sounds like fun, too. Has anybody gone on one or have any advice on that? -Is there a way to get to either New Zealand or Australia for less than a grand? -I'm really flexible on when and for how long. Off-peak is preferable because of the cheap flights. -Also, if anyone could share experience with any kind of guided tour...that would be greatly appreciated. I want to get out of this country and see something cool! What's the best way to go about doing that? Help a dumb American out! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  2. I don't think that's that odd. My one friend didn't start taking it until she was 23. She wanted to put off using anything like Accutane until she was sure that other stuff wasn't going to work and sure that she wasn't going to "grow out" of it. Acne was quite painful (physically) for her....so I think the comments saying that it's all for looks are a bit off. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  3. I could come up with a witty comeback, but I won't. Because of this site, I've sold a rig and a canopy. I've bought numerous things. Because of this site, I have valuable information (Derek's gear tips, Billvon's canopy control stuff.) I hear about events happening at dzs. I have made friends because of this site. Like PhillyKev said in another thread, I don't take this site too seriously. I'm not offended by anything anyone says here. If the site was gone tomorrow, oh well. But, I do appreciate that there is a site with so much information. I appreciate that this site is kept up despite the crap that HH and the moderators have to put up with. I don't think people here understand how much it costs him. People need to chip in and help! If you can afford to jump a few times a month, sacrifice one for HH! 4. People who stand for nothing -- will fall for anything. Just because his feelings on the U.S. are neutral he stands for nothing???? That makes no sense. My feelings on many things are neutral. Sheesh... There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  5. You may be right. I was fortunate to grow up with a roof over my head, a decent education, the best older brother ever, food everyday, and the opportunity to pursue many interests. It's hard to despise a place that offers all of that. So, I definitely don't fit into "Anti-American." I do not like what our President is doing. I never liked what the mayor of Chicago does. I do not like what Senator Lugar does. There are many politicians that I do not like (I am thinking of ways of attaching a polygraph to every politician.) I do not like some of the laws of this country. I do not like some of the foreign affairs this country has. I do not like the air pollution of this country (and I am a hypocrite for driving so much.) I do not like many people in this country. There are many things that I do not like about this country, because there is not a perfect country out there. They all have problems. So, I'm not really sure what "Pro-American" means. If it means that I'll support whatever happens here, then I am not Pro-American. If it means that I think it's a decent country with many opportunities, then I am Pro-American. Also, the great thing about this country is that even though I can't stand some of what we're doing right now, it will change. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  6. Hmm....so not being pro-Remster doesn't make me anti-Remster? Interesting... There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  7. Just wanted to take a break from my normal post-whoring and thank Sangiro and Company for making this site so great. They all do a spiffy job keeping the mindless post-whoring (which I am guilty of sometimes) and heated debates (oops...guilty there, too) in check. No, everything isn't run how everybody wants it (I would like my "Pooh-Bah" status to change to "The Best"), but Sangiro does a great job of being fair (even though he doesn't have to be), and he gives us all a place to get at great information. So, if you haven't thanked Sangiro and Company lately, be sure to do so! Holidays and the Eloy Boogie are coming up....this seems to be a great time for a donation! Help a Head Honcho out! For those who don't see the "Donations" link at the top: here you go! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  8. Well, I already recommended it. Fits your requirement exactly: www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=762567#762567 Yes, your suggestion was marvelous, but I thought I'd be a little more specific so that I could get better input from the good folks of dz.com! Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Now, it's time for me to go spend some cash at amazon.com. (Yes, I'm lazy.) There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  9. Hmmm....I guess I should be more specific....I'm not so much wanting to read someone else's story or anything like that. I would be interested in reading about things like the Catholic Crusades, Newton, super novas, etc. Ya know what I mean? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  10. I see that one as the opposite, actually. Luckily, people such as yourself never put limits on yourself with how much you can learn, grow and experience. While I'm often amazed at other people's stupidity, I'm more amazed by the intelligence of others. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  11. The last many books I've read have all been fiction. Some of them have been great stories, inspiring, yadda yadda yadda, but it's time for me to learn about something. Sure, I occassionally pick up a newspaper or newsmagazine, but I want something more than current events. What's the best book you've read on someone cool, a neat-o historical event, weirdo scientific phenomena, etc? Help me be s-m-r-t! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  12. I'm old:blah:blah Oh well....I went to one of the coolest bars this weekend, though. Too bad Purdue lost in OT....fun to watch. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  13. I honestly don't know because I haven't been there once this season But, it's a great place to learn from. Bo and Paula are both great teachers. Ward is a great packer, and he's also a great person to learn from. It's cold, so I'm sure that they would be more than happy to help you learn some packing techniques. 14. It's something that I would do once. Hopefully, I would live after that one time. That's all I really want. So, "trying out" is more of a "want to do it to see what's it like, but I would never be able to keep up with it for so many reasons." There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  15. The allotted time slot is 11-13 weeks between shots. It's the person's personal preference. So, your gf and her friend just have different preferences. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  16. I'm not so sure about that. Most dropzones aren't "in the black" as it is, and most dropzone owners aren't businessmen. I've also never seen 1800skyride ads or billboards or anything like that (yes, I even frequently pass a dz that's on there), so I really don't know if people who use it would jump or not. I'm sure most people who use 1800skyride find it from the internet...which means that they would find another dz anyways. It's a shady business, and I am against people using lies to sell business. Saying that there are no other closer dropzones is a lie. They should at least modify that statement. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  17. Just because we're skydivers doesn't mean we're not "whuffos" to the base jumping world! I don't fully understand why people want to base jump since I've never done it myself (although, my balloon jumps get me very interested in trying it out one of these years....) I don't fully understand why someone would take such a huge risk for such a short amount of time of fun. I understand it to a point....I'm willing to accept the risk associated with skydiving for just 70 seconds of fun. However, the risks in base jumping are so much higher. There seems to be (once again, I am a whuffo to it) so many more things that can go wrong. So, my guess is that some people interpret the higher risk to meaning certain death. Plus, since many base jumps are done in less legal ways, many people cannot understand that part of it either. Even amongst a rowdy crowd of skydivers exist people who will not break the law for fun. That being said, I'm all for people trying out base jumping if they want to and if they researched it enough. If someone has gone to great lengths to try to minimize their risk, I don't see them as too crazy If someone has gone out and basically done Tom's "to do" list (I think that's the list I saw....it included things like # of crew jumps you should do beforehand...etc etc) then more power to you. 18. She's standing right here behind me, saying she gets it every 2 months. (trust me on this one!) She may want to check that! I last went on Sept. 15, and I'm due on Dec. 6. (forgot to add I could technically wait until Dec. 13 if I wanted to.) It says so on my card! Go to the Planned Parenthood website if you don't believe me! 19. That just really seems like a lose-lose situation. The dz gets less money, and their customer pays more money. So, the claim is that it's all about advertising, right? How often do you clip a coupon out of a newspaper to pay more for something? If it's an advertising thing, then the dz should take that cost in themselves like any other advertising cost. Personally, I'd be pretty ticked off if I paid that much more money than if I would've called the dz directly. Patients who go through 1800 Dentist aren't paying more than those who don't. 20. It's every 3 months (trust me on this one!) There are many problems associated with Depo. I like it, but it's not perfect. It's like any other pill...increased risk of cervical cancer. Plus, there are women who flipped out on it. Also, it can decrease your bone density. It's not so easily reversible since it can take over a year for a woman to become fertile once she starts it. Plus, if a woman gets pregnant on it, there's a good chance for major complications (since it would most likely not be a "normal" pregnancy.) Trust me...if there was an outpatient method available that was easily reversible, I would be all about it. My way of "getting cut" would involve major surgery that takes much too long to heal from, and I don't like the chance of complications involved. 21. But, when you ask them "Is that the closest dropzone?" and they say, "Yes," then that is where the problem lies. They should reply with, "That is the closest dropzone that is affiliated with 1800Skyride." I did not get that response, however. Adding on This is why it's unethical. She lied to me. It was not the closest dz. I feel bad for any customer who actually goes through them. The lady on the phone told me where the dz was at and admitted that if I went straight to the dz I would spend less money. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  22. Stupid question time: why do you fly there? Are there no highways between your two places? I've done a 285 mile drive more times than I can remember right now. I never considered flying there. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  23. Hehe! I love ruining other people's good times! Thank goodness! I'm still not sure which hurts worse....being called a flake or almost an asshole.... There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  24. I've never been to Crosskeys, but I hear nothing but good things about that dz. Plus, I love their aircraft! From my experiences: Most fun dz: Indiana Skydiving Academy - it's pretty much non-stop laughs while I'm there. Most women: Chicagoland Skydiving Center - I feel really comfortable there since there is an oddly high proportionate number of female skydivers there. I really appreciate how staff/dzos treat women as well...as humans...not as objects Prettiest: Elsinore Best organizers: WFFC Best facilities: SDC Best overall: Z-hills Great staff/organizers, landing area isn't too shabby, great parties, camping area could be better, nice planes....my favorite out of the 3 FL dzs I've been to (also been to Lake Wales and Deland.) 25. Yeah, if I were a guy, I'd wait awhile before getting it done: At least it's not major surgery like what women have to get to be baby-free. Also, if it turns out that it is easily reversible, then a simple little insertion is so much nicer than constant weirdo hormones. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
