  1. I can see that; it would be difficult for me too, as touching someone's bare feet with your bare hands is a pretty intimate act. I mean, if it is another man, is it ok if you don't make eye contact? What if you look down and the person washing you looks up and waggles his eyebrows up and down? What would you do? Go all aggro and try to break his nose with your knee? Or one up him and slowly lick your top lip? Or give him the subtle bird by scratching your nose with your middle finger? Fun stuff to think about. It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".
  2. This annoys me too. On Nov 11, I tried to get a view of various Google doodles around the world, but no matter what site I went to, google.co.uk or google.fr, the doodle was always the USA doodle. 3. Normally conservatives are against government regulation of business, but in light of these concerns is there support on the right for a GDPR style set of rules for internet companies? It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".
  4. there seem to be several concerns here: 1. Google and FB have lots of our personal data 2. They use that data to serve personalized ads 3. They use that data to filter search results and news feeds. 4. This filtering is designed to give better results and help users get what they want from the service faster. 5. The filtering of data is designed to influence popular opinion and serve a liberal political agenda. I don't think you will get any debate over items 1-4, but 5 is not as clear cut. 5. Mine is 1.48. A number of people have their wingloading in their profile. If you are a programmer you could screen scrape / download everyone's profiles and get some more data that way. It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".
  6. I was going to post this in bonfire joke thread, but rules are rules... --------- Whenever I am in trouble, I think "what would Jesus do?" Then I pretend to be dead and disappear for three days. 7. I saw both skits. The mea culpa 2nd skit was even better than the 1st, and the vet tie in was well timed. I didn't think the 1st skit was as bad as some thought. The skit was low brow all around, basically anytime you are poking fun of people based on looks it's weak comedy; the fact that Pete spread the jokes around and included himself made it equalizing and that helped it. Also in the subtext was the admonishment to please go beyond the surface and learn a bit about the candidates on the ballot before voting, and that was a useful message. It did get me wondering about what is fair game in a bit like that. Fashion choices are easiest; hairstyles or beards or makeup choices. Other "choices" are a little less easy, like overweight (or underweight). Genetic oddities are a bit more touchy, like big ears or mouth. And touchiest of all are scars or other visible trauma esp received in the line of duty. I don't like to think that one kind of gag is completely off limits while the others are ok, but you go for the weak joke and it sometimes blows up. 8. Personally I am fine with the USPA chipping in a little bit for this museum, but I am with grimme, I would like to see the presentation. Hopefully it will answer the obvious question for me: "How can the museum backers be sure that this $ ask is the last time they will come to USPA with hat in hand?" I don't want to set a precedent that now the USPA is financial backer of the museum, with potential further support required. As for what I expect to get out of it? I expect it to get built, so that one day I can go and see the memorabilia. That's it for me. I don't care about growing the sport or whatever other greater societal good people are thinking of. Just let me check out the gear, look at the trophies and what not. Seth It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

    Gas prices

That's about what it is here in central Alabama. When I was in high school, gas was like 85 cents a gal in the mid 80s. The good old days. They weren't actually that good. Once you account for inflation, the 0.85 gal goes to 1.99 gal, and since cars today get better gas mileage, you need to adjust for the cost per mile to operate. Turns out driving a car today is cheaper than it was in 1985. Plus cars today are WAY better. I wouldn't go back.
  10. He said it's tempered. Didn't think you could cut that. But yeah, when I built our shower the glass door people said, tile it first, then we will measure it as built and order the shower door to match. 13. The investment world is littered with visionaries whose vision did not pan out. Theranos, for example, whose famous wonder product was never what it seemed, and took a lot of people's money as it went down in flames. Looking at a company's position carefully before investing in it is only prudent, and saying that anyone who does that should go kill themselves is ridiculous IMHO. 14. You can add stuff, but you can't skip / remove stuff. The 2 tandems and no 2 harness hold AFF training program is covered in the BSRs 2-1 G.5c ***. Students who have completed at least two tandem jumps and demonstrated the ability to reliably pull the drogue release at the correct altitude, maintain heading and a stable body position, without requiring any control or altitude prompts from the tandem instructor, may progress to single instructor AFF jumps after completion of solo ground training. I suspect that what you think are DZs not following the AFF BSRs is just you not knowing the BSRs or not knowing the training details. 17. a couple years ago I remarked to my neighbor how I didn't see any squirrels around anymore. He smiled and said he'd been live trapping them and then releasing them when he got to work 30 miles away. he moved last year and now the squirrels are back. 19. I'm 6'3 (and half to be precise) and I jump a 19". I've jumped a 21" mlw and it was too long, torso length and I think torso thickness play into it. I can see a leggy 6'5 being the same as my 6'3. I have jumped a 16" MLW, and it was not enjoyable, but it worked. The hip rings / junction will be too high, and the leg pads won't come around far. Make sure the pads do come far enough around, and that you can arch somewhat...that is my only advice. 21. my cat and mouse story from about 3 months ago: Sitting in living room with wife reading. Wife hears a mouse (1st one in 7 years) under her couch. Freaks out a little bit, mouse runs under hutch. I grab a broom handle and work the mouse to the end of the hutch, it pops out and runs back across the living room. Cat sees it, pandemonium ensues. Within 5 sec or so mouse is half dead; I shoo the cat away. I should have just drowned the mouse, but instead I tossed it into the woods. Who knows, maybe it made it. But it was nice to know that the cat is capable of helping to earn its keep. It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".
  22. Very interesting, thanks for the info. It will also be interesting to see if this is a local thing to that area. I wonder if people will be as excited, having to jump from a "little" plane like a C182 at a small dropzone. I wouldn't be surprised if this had a small national bump too, for people who are fans of the show or who saw the youtube video. James was so great at playing the NON-extreme athlete, so it goes to wolfriverjoe's point that it is more beneficial for scenes that give people the idea "hey even I could do that, and it looks like a lot of fun". We have no national month-by-month year to year tandem jump stats, so no way to quantify. It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".
  23. Nicely put. There was a fun effortlessness to the PB Jonny U. skydive that made it pretty unique for the time. Like you said, so many other movie jumps are "life or death" struggles. (of course it started to get a little life or death at the end of the jump "You pull!!") PB II somehow missed that, just too serious. Skydive stunts in action movies are pretty routine, also in action TV shows, and commercials too. Tom C. doing the stuntwork gave it some extra punch, but if you didn't know he was doing it, you may have assumed just good special effects.
