What do you think of the new dropzone.com format?
SethInMI replied to pchapman's topic in The Bonfire
I like it. -
I agree. The applications I think of require a mix of superconducting and non-superconducting bits, and it feels easier to me to cool an entire device rather than subject just the superconducting bits to the pressures necessary (which could damage or destroy supporting complex structures) It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

I saw a stereo for sale for 1$, but the volume was stuck to full. I thought "I can't turn that down" But it turns out its fuse was also blown, so I realized I'd have to refuse. No big loss though, as it also didn't have a power cable... I really wasn't looking to record anything anyway. Even if I did I wouldn't be sure how to power it. I only have a limited knowledge of electronics, and it's not current It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

You realize that every time your reserve is used the PC launches, even in an RSL / MARD deployment? The system has to stay connected throughout the initial launch / pull sequence, and so it requires some force to unhook it, the manual says 5-7 lb. So no, the launch of the PC won't necessarily disconnect a Skyhook. But Vectors should have been retrofitted with a staging loop to make sure that the reserve can't leave the container unless an inflated PC or inflated main is pulling hard on the bridle, so deploying the reserve after the main is deployed will either cause the PC to trail harmlessly behind the jumper, or will cause the reserve to deploy and disconnect the skyhook. That does not seem like an accurate way to determine it. For example, does building a $1M Ferrari produce 50x more carbon than a $20k Honda? Probably not even close. yeah, there is the fact you have to account for profit margins, but the energy cost to build a Ferrari is probably quite a bit higher than the Honda. Exotic materials like carbon fiber and titanium have high production costs because they take more energy to extract / produce. Even more by-hand labour translates to higher energy costs, as those labour hours costs result from energy needs of the worker. I had to google that one, I knew there was a masturbation joke in there somewhere, but I couldn't find the pun. Explained: "[Stop doing that. It] wears [down] the soap" "Yes it does" It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

To anyone considering donating money to the museum......
SethInMI replied to baronn's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yep. My idea of interactive exhibits would be replica rigs that you could try on, stuffed to make them weigh and feel like the rigs would when packed. Practice popping some capewells, or deploy a chest reserve, etc. Get the feel of how the gear evolved over last 50 years. Reading the other threads and the museum response letter in Parachutist has made me pretty pessimistic on the idea of the museum. The letter imagined a facility that was geared toward non-skydivers, with interactive exhibits designed to get people interested / comfortable with the sport. I think we have enough ways to get people interested already. What would I as a skydiver like to see in a museum? Just the gear and other old artifacts, please. The sword, some other trophies, log book entries, rigs, suits, boots, tuffets, chutes, one of those things to judge style from the ground, that sort of thing. I say find a good airplane museum and build it as an annex, one price for the whole thing. Just a pole barn full of old crap, that is all I want to pay for. I disagree, I think he has some valid concerns. However, questions about the feasibility and lack of transparency of the skydiving museum were beat to death in the other thread(s). What will creating a 3rd (or more, no idea how many have been on this site) really do? It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less". -
Sounds right-ish. That feels in line with the 5% of total skydivers that people were guessing up thread. I can't imagine the number of BASE wingsuiters would be very high (people who don't WS skydive that much, only BASE). Access to jumpable objects and the time it takes to develop the skills would make it an exclusive club. Unless you are jumping a student AAD, this is not a concern. The people who will be able to fire an expert/"normal" AAD under canopy are competition level canopy pilots under highly loaded wings doing large turns and they are well aware of the issue. Yeah, i think it would be nice if Lee would spell correctly, but we are all so used to the way he writes that it is part of his charm; reading him is sometimes like solving a word puzzle. It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

from annie hall: A guy walks into a psychiatrist's office and says, "hey doc, my brother's crazy! He thinks he's a chicken." The doc says, "why don't you turn him in?" your airplane (whatever that is) flying parachute. wingsuiter If you are into 4 way, making a small gingerbread man / woman in the standard block defining shape would be a fun start to making the entire dive pool out of gingerbread by just arranging the soft dough people and pressing their hands / feet into the parts of the others. I can't shed a lot of light, but there are several different levels of anonymity: 1. Hiding your actual phone number from the person you are contacting. Sounds like this is all you want. My wife uses a Google Hangouts phone number for this purpose, so that some of her clients can call her, but only when she wants and only on that "fake" number, which is separate from her regular phone number. A persons phone number is a way into their social media world, and if you want to keep your distance from someone you don't want to let them have your number. 2. Hiding any trace of your phone calls and texts from everyone, including spouse, boss at work, etc. This is probably only needed if you are up to no good. This is the true burner cash pre-paid phone, I have never needed one, but I assume you can still get one. "Gentlemen. You can't fight in here, this is the War Room" We are in Speakers Corner, so taking shots at the other side is to be expected and encouraged, but this is a JOKE THREAD, so try to keep it funny, at least to one side if not both.
