Is anyone afraid to fly? Or never flew commercially?
Johnsisland replied to Brian425's topic in The Bonfire
I really don't like little planes's. My uncle was a capt. for a major airline, and flew little ones for fun. All I can remember is he crashed the little one's three or four times that I know about. His last crash screwed up his ankle, and he didn't get his medical after that. He started out as a mechanic, and became a capt. Did all the work on his own planes, and looking back, I am betting his planes should not have been in the air. My Dad talks about gauges hanging from the dash in his Cessna, the one time he rode with him. Maybe that's why I like the Otter more than the Cessna? Have to think my reasoning isn't the best, I tend to trust my DZ's maintenace. But I never said my reasoning, in this matter, makes sense. J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground. -
Was lucky day of FJC. Puked AFTER second jump. Pretty interesting remembering the DZO offer to remove my rig after I was on the ground...I didn't want to move, she said something about "Oh just let me take it off you." I thought she was trying to be nice to e, and later figured out why she was soooo insistent on removing the rig, so quickly. I didn't puke until the ride in her car on the way back to the DZ, from the LZ. I am betting some people driving along the busy street wondered why some guy was leaning out the window, creating such a mess, all over the side of the car, and down the street. At least my mess cleaned up with a hose, I can't imagine what the cleanup would have been like if it was in a itty bitty C182. J Edit after I realized Bigun didn't puke do to heat. Nap of the earth, that might have been interesting for me. Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Hmmm, make sure a friend that video's goes along, seperatly of course, to take video of the JM's. If you didn't want to involve slinging off JM's, how about a static line FJC. Do a back roll on your first jump, I have video of my coworker who did a back roll. What type of shennigans could you pull landing, while under a student canopy? Could be interesting watching the video of the ground instructor, or the JM in the plane. J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Cocheese, You put more thought into your reply than I put into my post. Looking back, I agree with you, posting it after Chili's post wasn't my best move, rather it was an attempted hijack, and thoughtless at best. Apologies Chili, and thanks for the post Cocheese. You might read RL's thread about her daughter growing up on a DZ...Maybe she has some advice for you. J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Being hardnose here, I wonder if they signed an "Assumption Of Risk"? Part of me wonders why we worry so much about astronauts bouncing, when every year there are many more police, fire fighters, troops not coming home. Police, fire fighters, troops knew the risk when the signed up for the job...but usually we don't mourn the aforementioned line of duty deaths quite like we mourn a shuttle bouncing. I suspect this will not be a popular opinion, but I will connect my PC via a fiber link, kind of like an asbestos suit (and yes, quite a few people died not knowing the risks of mining, and working with asbestos.) Switching the copper cable for a fiber one now... (Yes, I am a geek.) (And most of all, I will mourn the passing of any astronauts who die, just like I mourn the passing of every fire fighter, police and soldier who dies in the line of duty.) J . . . Arch? Perhaps you would describe yourself as The Rack? That's all I can think of when I see your current avatar. Well, maybe hoping you are feeling flopsy, wiggly and somebody has a camera ready, if the blessed were to happen. J . . Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

I think Amazon has some recent experience with ripping, although she isn't trying to claim it was a normal opening. J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

When you say mostly not, are you refering to the canopies adjustment, or stupid students who take extra wraps on the brake lines? J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

How can Darwin present the 2006 awards even before 2006 is over???? Check out http://darwinawards.com/ The real thing... J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Ah long as 31 flavors isn't providing the place and ice cream, that sounds like a good idea. I really don't know if I will ever buy my frozen yogurt from B&R again...sigh. Ms. PPG, did you know that the voice for your avatar was also an actress in Fandango? J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

AGGGHHHH, I don't think I can ever buy ice cream at B&R again. How do I erase the thought of where the hot fudge scoop has been from my memory? Help!!!! J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

I would have to agree, it's not anywhere close to DZ activity and quality. I wonder if that's because of the people running the site, or the people who frequent the site. What would happen if Sangrio started a SCUBA site, like DZ? J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.
-
Wow, my thoughts exactly. I suck at skydiving, but being underwater is such a natural feeling for me... Anyone find a place like DZ.com for scuba? One similar in quality and activity? J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Taking apart laptops is easy, it's putting them back together without any leftovers that's hard. Seriously, I do have a few ways to help remember where all the screws go. Sometimes you can download a tech/service manual. Then print it out, and tape all the screws to the diagrams. Don't laugh, it works. J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Same here. I would rather avoid chamber diving. And not many people know if they have a POF, until they are bent, go chamber diving, and find out they have a POF. Manage the risk. Don't knock on deaths door and run. J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Some of the best diving I ever did was in the underwater park by the Edmonds Ferry. Cousteau said it was one of the best man-made underwater parks in the world. I did all that wearing a 6 mil wetsuit. By the time I got it on, I was burning up. I learned in the Keys and thought the same thing until I tried it. Edmonds, reminds me of why I bought my compass. I was positive I was heading north, but for some reason the ferry was becoming louder. A compass is useful, so very useful. And the surface is not always your friend. How about we try our hand at slipping Amazon into a nice thick wetsuit and throwing her in the Sound. Maybe a few drinks before attempting to slip her into a thick wetsuit would allow us to escape with only major bruising? Just kidding J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

OK, OK, time to find a drysuit and enclosed lock on helment. OH, I won't forget the gloves, the ones like the helment that lock on. Bet you won't freeze your Amazon bod then! Starting to look for quarters in the couch now... J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

I' vote for the patch. Never needed one on a boat, but jumping out of planes, well I like my patch. I can't figure it out, wish I could. But the patch, I'd take that over the tablets any day. J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

Ahhh, perhaps that's the reason for using Amazon? Any idea of Not Evil Jeanne's height? J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

How about taller too Ms. Evil Jeanne, which I find hard to belive you are, how tall are you? Would you be looking down at a guy 6 feet tall? J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

poco español In the last six years I have learned very, very little spanish, even though 99% of the factory workers native tongue is spanish. I suck at learning foregion languages...well, except for geek. But it is funny, they assume I don't understand 99% of what they are saying. Today, a supervisor needed a private place to hash out problems between a couple of people...and he wanted to use my office. I started standing up, and he said no need to leave, by which he meant since I didn't understand spanish, I didn't need to leave. I did ask the people the supervisor brought in if they would prefer I leave, but the answer was a quick, you don't understand spanish, right (or words to that affect.) And it probably didn't hurt that I am know as someone who treats everyone the same, ethinicity doesn't matter. But the funny part is, I can understand just enough to get the jist of the conversation...who was having a problem with whom. Who was in hot water, etc. Not sure I really understood the situation, but the dynamics, you bet. And I was still focused on the problem I was working on. Easy to tune out... One of my favorite stories along this line...a professor I detest. Had two native spanish speakers who took a lot of classes from him. Sometimes they would just go off talking in spanish right in front of him. I heard he would just smile, and continue on with what he was doing. Then one day, a year or so later, the proffesor dives into one of there spanish conversations, and has a nice long chat with them. Turns out he is LDS and served a mission where he learned to speak fluent spanish. From what I heard those two were ready to crawl under the nearest table or run from the room. They didn't like the proffesor much either (not many people did), and probably didn't say too many nice things about him. J Nope, I am not LDS, nor am I going to say one word about my feelings about LDSers. Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.

I swallowed one of my gold crowns, should I...
Johnsisland replied to Johnsisland's topic in The Bonfire
PLEASE do not post details about this. There have been FAR too many turd-related posts lately. In the interest of full and open disclosure, I feel compelled to post details. And pictures What do others on this board feel, details, pictures, both or none? J Arch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground. -
I swallowed one of my gold crowns, should I...
Johnsisland replied to Johnsisland's topic in The Bonfire
Well, the dentist said if I could get the crown back, he will clean it and just paste it back on. If I don't get it back, it will be a full crown price, since he will have to prep the tooth, take a mold, cast the gold and paste it on. So, recovering the gold will save me a bunch (50 jumps) of bucks. And I wasn't willing to use the syrup of ipepcak, and couldn't get it to come up. I tried the water, and wondered if drinking water rightr before lunch would just cause it to move further along in the process. Who knows. So, I am now into operation gold recovery phase. J Arch?
