Yeah, of course you're way better than the rest of the jumpers for whom a 200 jump minimum is recommended... ciel bleu, Saskia

I got some goggles like those. I like my goggles tight, and the elastic on these went bad after only 2 jumps. So I will not be buying these again. Like a more regular skydiving goggle, they will provide a good seal provided your face fits them. ciel bleu, Saskia

You are still talking about 2 totally different things here: zoom and focus. If you can fix the problem by pushing back the toggle button to unzoom, then the fix is to fixate that button using the method I described. Sounds like the button is getting pushed somehow even though it is in a box. If however for the fix you need to go into the menu and focus the camera again to the little mountain, you have more of an electronic problem. ciel bleu, Saskia

Nikon AF lenses will fit on any recent Nikon DSLR. However they will only be autofocus lenses if you use a camera body with motor inside, ie D70, D70s, D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, D300s, D700, D7000, D800, D1-series, D2-series, D3-series and D4 models. If you use a lighter consumer camera, your lenses will be manual focus only. Read this. ciel bleu, Saskia

Zooming and focussing are 2 different things. Are you talking about the focuspoint getting too close by itself, or are you talking about zooming in (the left/right button on top of the cx115)? If you are talking about the button, that's a common problem for skydivers. You need to stop the button from being able to be moved, by putting the camera in a box and/or putting a small piece of gaffertape (note: do NOT use ducktape) next to the button on the right side, so that it cannot zoom in anymore. See attachment. ciel bleu, Saskia

Either buy a regular wired remote for a nikon d90 (I suggest ebay), cut off the remote bit and solder a switch of your choice to it, or buy a ready made switch from someone who does just that, like from Laszlo. ciel bleu, Saskia

Ehm, actually you should be learning all you need to know during your first jump course. Being enthousiastic is good, but having too much information too soon isn't. We've had a student continually interupting his instructor saying "yeah but the skydiver's handbook says" I personally think it's best if you do a couple jumps and preferably finish your AFF and THEN start reading books (and watching youtube LOL), because by then you have a base to judge thinks by, and know which people to ask/talk to about anything in those books/videos. Too much information can trip you up during the course/practical test, and worse, during a real-time malfunction. Stick with the curriculum at first, until you have more "room in your head" for theory other than that needed for your first couple jumps. ciel bleu, Saskia

First time tandemn jump, a few quesitons..
dragon2 replied to IhaveAQUESTION's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Definately take video. Extra altitude, by all means if you want it, but 9-10k is also fine to jump from. 14k will ~double your freefall time, but not everyone will notice this or even enjoy this all that much, especially on their first jump everything will probably go past very fast for you anyway. So my 2 cents: video a big yes, extra altitude sure if you can afford it and think you'll enjoy the jump better. ciel bleu, Saskia -
5kg is not all that much... Lightweights often wear more than that. I used to wear up to 13kg (28lbs) for the "homesick bowlingball" tandems and for filming CRW. Lugging around 1/5 of your body weight in lead is not much fun, and can't be all that healthy either These days though, I rarely have to use weights... I like to think I've I've learned to fly better, but mostly I'm afraid I now have my lead "built-in" so to speak, ahem ciel bleu, Saskia

Pro: canopy flies a little better (like loosening up your cheststrap) Cons: slider needs to be down over your risers before you release your toggles (otherwise you get the situation in the atachement, that was a demo jump) You can grab the triple bit by accident when going for your rears, not so much an issue up high but with swooping, I liked my triple risers. I only stopped using them because all the pairs I have are very short, plus a couple are reversed risers. Don't use triple risers if you use your rears when swooping. ciel bleu, Saskia
-
It's still a requirement. 10 years!? I've only ever had one reserve that young. BTW the latest PD reserve manual states: ciel bleu, Saskia
-
I have no idea if this could work for freefall, but some of the CRW jumpers I know have their toggles on their mudflaps. You could ask CaTo about this. ciel bleu, Saskia

If you're not used to modern-ish canopy flight, a BT is probably way over your head for the next 300-500 jumps... You would be better off looking for a square/square-ish canopy like a sabre 1 or triathlon, if you want something cheap but safer to fly. ciel bleu, Saskia
