Try doing a framegrab if you really want that shot: Put the dvd in a computer, grab the biggest .vob file you can find on it and copy that to your harddrive. Rename the file to .mpg and insert that file into your favorite video editing program. Export the video frame of your choice as a graphic file. You -may- have to deinterlace the frame. ciel bleu, Saskia

OK, the expression is kinda funny, but didn't he get any photos with the jump? This looks like you shot a picture of a tv showing his dvd..? ciel bleu, Saskia

A diablo packs quite big, due to the fabric used. A atom 00 should have a 115 or 128 sqft reserve. It is not made for bigger, and some riggers here will not pack them with a mayday or other 150ish reserve in it, and rightly so IMO. I packed a spectre 150 in mine, it was TIGHT. A merit 170 worked better, but that was a ragged old hybrid canopy. A stiletto 150 might work, if it is an old one and you're good at packing and you don't overstuff the reserve. ciel bleu, Saskia

Processor -AMD or Intel? I'm an intel fan myself, not any recent experience aith AMD. Inter works great for editing. -How many cores? (The dell was a quad core i7, looks like big jump in price to 6 cores for intel) A quadcore (!) i5 (without a letter behind the name although K is ok this is meant for overclockers) or i7 (same) will do fine. Get a sandybridge or better yet ivy bridge. -Form factor, 22nm versus ???nm, does this matter? Case power supply & motherboard -Any performance factor here? You do not want a budget power supply. Motherboard, get one with the features you need (like usb3, e-sata, firewire, front usb ports, sata600, ...) with a chipset suitable for your proc. (intel/amd/are you going to overclock/do you need the on-board video/...) Hard drives -It looks like solid state for the operating system and software... what about drives for footage, storage, etc? SSD for OS & software, plus a big+ fasti-ish HDD for footage, plus a fast-ish HDD or SSD for a scratchdisk. Memory -Fastest and most possible? "most" is better than "fastest" -Memory channels? Dual or Quad? my 2 editing rigs are triple channel and dual channel, both work fine. Video card I don't think there is a benefit to a gaming card for editing, but maybe I will start playing computer games again. Some (verisons of) editing software do rely on the graphics card, a suitable card can really speed up editing here. Adobe Premiere Pro up to 5.5 is very happy with a (specific range of) nvidia card. Premiere Pro 6 has a different angine I think. Don't know about other editing software. Get a x64 OS. I'd use win7, myself. ciel bleu, Saskia

How often does line twist happen in student jumps
dragon2 replied to dpfire29's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How often linetwists occur in student jumps is largely dependent on the type of jump being done. In AFF, you get the occasional linetwist. For certain types of static-line jumps, you get 1-in-3ish chances of linetwists. Linetwists on student-type canopies are not that big a deal and you will be taught how to deal with them in your first jump course. Don't sweat it. ciel bleu, Saskia -

Wait for a minute after you're done transferring files and close the drive window. Pull it out. +1 ciel bleu, Saskia

LOL I could've sworn I read Optical stabilisation for the CX210. Since it's sony CX series camera, with EIS, it should be fine for skydiving. 2 other things to look out for are the ability to screw on a wide angle lens, and the location of the cardreader on the camera body, in relation to how you're going to mount the camera. ciel bleu, Saskia

Did you read the sticky FAQ in this forum? Do that first, then go look up what kind of image stabilisation both cameras have. ciel bleu, Saskia

Skydivers Watch from Switzerland

They mean that your post is an advertisement, which is not allowed in the forums. Not even if you're named Jeb Advertisements go in the classifieds section. ciel bleu, Saskia -
It may not be an error code as such, but a cypres2 DOES show messages about the maintenance window. I let mine get to "NOW" lol it is at airtec right now ciel bleu, Saskia

I was pretty damn awesome!!! I only spent like 13 jumps on a static-line. I had 3 jumpsuits, so I could generally do 3 jumps without having to wash every suit. I managed to funnel my first 4way at 100 jumps, which aside from me consisted of 3 instructors with a gazillion jumps, so I'm pretty proud of that one ciel bleu, Saskia

Does your DZ try to guilt you if you have a cutaway?
dragon2 replied to -SK-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We've had people cut away because they couldn't undo the toggles (they worked fine...), because they stuck their hands in toggles/brake line loops causing knots, not slowing down enough after freefly can cause opening issues, lines catching on camera equipment (often because people look up during deployment), handles getting dislodged during exit or freefall, holding on to the pilot chute for too long causing the bridle to wrap around their arm, spinning up the canopy by turning too fast or stalling it, dropping a shoulder during opening or opening head-low. These just all off the top off my head. There's probably more ways And none of the above are the packer's fault. ciel bleu, Saskia -
As for the gps part, I jumped a gps suunto (xlander?) a couple times but no lock inside the plane, so worthless for spotting. It also had trouble in a forest, so again, not so good even for "regular" purposes. If you want a gps that works inside an airplane and out and you can wear as a watch, I'd recommend the garmin foretrex 401 (there's also a new version announced that might be suitable) ciel bleu, Saskia

A quick recap from the big number of threads on here about suunto watches: - even though these watches are not made for freefall and suunto does not recommend them for freefall, if you're a experienced jumper (think tandem master here) then you will probably be ok with a suunto alti watch. - the numbers are (much) smaller than on a real skydiving alti, you usually get 4. So it will show 8560 ft in freefall instead of a big 8.5 on a real digital skydiving alti. - it will have a bit more lag in freefall than a real skydiving alti (it isn't made to refresh that fast, and it couldn't because otherwise the numbers would flash by too fast to read) - it is very easy to push a button so it won't show you altitude but pressure or some other menu item instead. I've seen one or two models with a lock but most don't seem to have this function. - keep an eye on the battery, this goes for any digital alti - I seem to remember that an alti watch isn't allowed on all dzs but can't remember where I've heard that or which dzs. YMMV. All in all, I've owed 2 suuntos and I've sold the first and keep the 2nd for a regular watch. I jump a neptune instead. Even though i rarely look at my alti as I fly camera, the small display still bugs me. It's harder to read and also reflects more light it seems. So, not for me. ciel bleu, Saskia

Wave off - pull altitude for tandems w video
dragon2 replied to Skydivesg's topic in Tandem Skydiving
The infamous hand "snivel". Not that funny... I've had a couple TMs do that to me, while being a long way out with hardly any wind. Resulting in a couple out landings for me. Including one hairy situation where I pulled straight after the tandem because i knew we were way out and I was going to have a lot of trouble making it back. Turned out i had a pretty violent spinning mal, plus the TM wanted to chop too because of linetwist. He couldn't, because I was spinning underneath him. He managed to get out of the twists, I chopped and landed 2 villages away. He did make it back to the DZ. By the time I had hitched a ride back, I got chewed out by the passenger's boyfriend for not getting the landing on video. Thanks a lot TM, for NOT pulling higher when I asked for it, and just keeping your hand on the release with a big smile on your face. Really, it's appreciated... Now most of the TMs I shoot are pretty good about watching out for the videoflyer. But one or two... Just 2 weeks ago i asked for the TM to check the spot beneath the, eh haze. He gave me a thumbs up and pulled at his regular altitude. When I pulled, I saw I was pretty far away and had to ride it back in brakes, just making it. The TM: Yeah, I just gave you a thumbs up, I didn't check the spot -smile- Then the next jump, another TM pulled really high for me, and I had a couple thousand feet to spare That TM at least understands teamwork -
Those plugs do not seem to have the ring to tighten the connection. Trust me, for skydiving, you do want that ring. The ones Lazslo sells do ciel bleu, Saskia

Why not get your switches ready-made from Laszlo? He sells both complete switches and adapters for the "regular" switches. I paid much less than usd 90 per switch

Yeah, one of our instructor stopped a New Zealand jumper from boarding with his go pro last weekend. He had all of 10 jumps, no clue how to turn on a cypres but was very miffed that he wasn't allowed to jump his fullface + gopro here "as he is allowed to jump it in NZ" ciel bleu, Saskia
