  1. I'm guessing that by mode he means the conditions at which it will fire, ie one higher (1000ft) point when going at freefall speeds and one lower point (700ft) when going at serious-canopy-malfunction speeds, like cypres student version. ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. In The Netherlands we have the folowing rules regarding AAD's for students: 1) they must have one 2) it must be turned on 3) if the AAD in question has a student version/mode only that version/mode may be used 4) no new type/brand AAD's allowed untill approved (Argus is not yet approved for below-C-license). So basically, there are in use: FXC, cypres 1 student version, cypres 2 student version, vigil in student mode. ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. My first canopy was a spectre 150 at wl 1, at 50 jumps. Student gear was manta/skymaster 280 and skymaster 230, after that I rented merit 190 (10 jumps), spectre 190 (10 jumps), triathlon 175 (5 jumps). The merit was quite a handfull after student canopies and even though the Tri was real easy (5 jumps, 0 wind, piece of cake) the spectre 150 was a handfull again ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. Check this with your instructor, but, no flare tests under 3k? Why? The limit at our latest canopy control course was 1500ft for crazy stuff, that was also the limit for the people with ~50 jumps. Aks if the limit can be somewhat lower for you now? Also, flare tests are not crazy stuff, unless you really stall the canopy. ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. You can't take HDR shots the usual way (the right way), you want to take as many shots as you can of the same, stationary, object (3 is not enough). But you could try it the "cheap" way: take one shot in RAW then export that RAW with varying exposures, as many as you can, and merge those. Not as good as the real thing but all we can get in skydiving ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. I'd start with 3-4", myself. I'd advise against 8" in one go. Practice the flare a couple times before you land, brake line settings matter a lot. BTW is it a Spanish-made safire? These generally come with quite long steering lines, not sure about USA ones. But if someone didn't shorten them and they shrunk that much, very probably the entire lineset is due replacement. ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. Eh, so what? That is where they generally need to be lengtened, assuming the part above the loop is in-spec. However, 8 inches is a LOT. Are you sure? I'd start a bit shorter myself and adjust as needed (you need to be able to pull the frontrisers down without pulling the tail). ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Do it like ours: we had a guy promise us free/cheap gravel for our pit (can't remember which). Turned out that was a LOT of gravel, as someone made a mistake when digging, confusing diameter with radius ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. You just have to buy a nikon remote (off-brands are fairly cheap) and splice it to a regular bite/tongue/blowswitch. Best to make the plug 90o instead of straight as it comes with the remote though. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Why would anyone, after seeing how well the HV10 did?!? (a couple threads below). Chances are it's just as bad, but if you want to give it a try, let us know the results ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. Too bad they want 70 dollars to ship 25 dollars of tape ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. Hmmm yeah, we discovered that.... Although one guy here happily jumps wingsuit with a sub-100 diablo at 1:2 The diablo 120 that I have now and which sorta scares me was too tame for him ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. I have no idea. It's not even my canopy I'm just borrowing it. It opens pretty much normal, no slider problem. But it's more hp then you'd generally want for wingsuit jumps. A spectre/tri/safire/pilot etc is much better. ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. Don't forget about reserve size, you want a 1:1 loaded reserve max, so you're looking for a ~190 reserve. Doubtful a rig with a 135 main would have that ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. Then get rid of the springo and buy a spectre, triathlon or for more performance a pilot... The spectre and tri will give you the best hassle-free opening
  16. Sonic. ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. Huh? I jumped a few 7cells in that range: spectre 150, spectre 135, triathlon 150, triathlon 120, lightning 143, lightning 126, diablo 120. Spectre is semi-eliptical, excellent canopy. Triathlon is square, also an excellent canopy. Lightning doesn't flare very well, i a specialist canopy formation canopy. Diablo, well, high performance canopy. All of these are trimmed moderately to fairly steep, although not as steep as say a sabre. Why? ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. I've got a few wingsuit jumps with a springo 120, but I can't really RECOMMEND it for wingsuit jumps ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. For inside freefly video you'd very probably want a .3 anyway. It's hard to tell how much the angle changes when using a step-ring; you need to have 2 lenses, same make and model but different thread sizes, so you can try them on the same camera. Between camera's there's variation in angles when using the same lenses, and between lenses there's a lot of variation too (a sony .6 I had was slightly wider than my current hama .45). BTW since you can't zoom the low-profile lenses, or not much if you have one that can be zoomed, you need to be sure of the lens you buy. Then again, if you're just starting, I'd just buy a .3 and learn to fly that ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. Since I own both a 30mm and a 25mm cam, all my lenses are 37mm (ok that's not totally logical but hey). So I need step-rings for both. I can use the ($$$) glass on pretty much all sony's now so I prefer it this way. However: the angle of the lens gets slightly narrowed when using a step-ring, might be bad for say AFF instructors who really need the full .3 or .25, and my sidemount camera gets slightly bigger (don't care about my top-mount camera getting slightly bigger). And the 25-37 step rings were kinda hard to come by ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. Well yeah, but I was trying to be nice ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. Besides is being very dangerous, it's also not a very good video because why are your knees in frame all the time? Most of our cameramen do backfly here, but I never see any bit of their anatomy in frame when not intentional (ie offering a shoe to grab). Also your goggles showing in frame would not be allowed here for paid tandem videos. ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. We have a lot of Triathlons with Tommy Hilfiger logos on them at our DZ. The logo was sewn on as an extra layer, on top of a white canopy. They pack about a size bigger. I think they're slightly sluggish for it, at least the hybrid Tri's we have, and those open slooooooow - constant problems with the slider staying up. Not sure about the effect of the logo on the comp Tri's, have never jumped on of those myself. They do look really cool in the air though
  24. You cannot safely sidemount all of the hc series. But go right ahead. ciel bleu, Saskia
  25. It's too wide for sidemounting. Read a few recent threads about sidemount options. ciel bleu, Saskia
