You can pull the main ripcord from both sides on any standard AFF rig. Only if a student is in AAD range should you pull their reserve. Its a very red area! Reserve pulls on a student is an extreme measure. jumpervali

After a 6,000 ft wrestling match with an AFF student I was glad she was wearing a ripcord rig! I managed to have her flat and stable for all of 2 sec. at a time. I had to dump her on her side as I went into a standup to get her clean air. In an unstable body position a spring loaded P/C is very effective. Throw outs are good for the norm, but get that 1 tuff one, and you'll be happy for ripcords! It takes a minimum of 30 reps to develop muscle memory, and 40 to "unlearn it." So the transition to a throwout can catch you off guard. keep em' safe folks jumpervali

Did they take the towers out of the New York surroundings? I heard they were going to remove them from the new edition. jumpervali

Opening altitudes are listed in the 2001 SIMM as: 1) Tandem jumps-4000 ft 2) all students and A license-3000 ft 3) B license-2500 ft 4) C & D-2000 ft You can still go from an A to a D but you must meet all the requirements for each license and pass the tests. The one license fee will get you only the D number. jumpervali

That's a good picture! Did you come out of the plane spurring above the shoulders? jumpervali

You think YOUR jump pilot brings it in hot...

Eating your students is not a good way to get repeat business. You may have to over spend on advertising if that is your plan. jumpervali -
Try to limit the amount of direct UV to the canopy and your rig. Sun light not only fades colors but it breaks down the poly chains that are in the synthetic fibers. Every time you find you've laid your canopy in the sun. Put a dollar in a piggy bank! Your container will fade too try to do your dirt dives in the shade. Stand in the shade of the wing if your waiting on the load to fill. Little habits you make yourself build now will have a long term payoff! Keep your gear like new ALWAYS. The "well I'll get to it later" is how new rigs look old quick. Even 3 years from now if you do this it will look new. Never forget how much you paid for it and treat it with respect, it does save your life. If you ever suspect a piece that has wear, FIX it then! I have a 13 year old Vector that looks as good as the day it was made, and 6 other rigs that are in perfect shape. My instructors and up jumper friends gave me hell early in my training and it stuck. Now I'm reaping the rewards of having some of the nicest equipment at our DZ. Ps. DON'T DRAG YOUR RIG WHEN PACKING! jumpervali

The topic of Clinton reminds me of a long ride to a high altitude. Some folks just sit back talk and grin. Some fidget and complain about their butt being numb. But what everybody needs to be doing is keeping quiet and conserving their energy. jumpervali

Your right about the test need to be taken for all a,b,c,d, license. That's the way it has always been even if your going from a to d. That's what I did and it's a pain to do 3 test in one day, it made my head hurt, but I passed all 3. At 360 jumps I figured it was time to spend the 20 bucks. You only pay for the 1 new license. I was also able to do night jumps with an A and over 100 jumps, but was it as per the SIMM. no. I love night jumps and now have over 20. There SO cool! The SIMM says to participate in night jumps you need to posses a b license. Many dz.'s will allow folks to make them if they have an A and say 90 jumps, but that not "by the book." jumpervali

It's like when Steve Martin in "the jerk" finds his name in the phone book "I'm somebody"! congrats Ryan jumpervali

A large Zp canopy will last you a lot longer too. They keep their porosity much longer. One of the things to keep in mind is gear is not a single unit. It's the harness container, reserve, aad, and main. Like a car has a body, engine, transmission, and interior. Get yourself a harness that fits well, and holds the canopies for your level at it's Max pack volume. That way later when you down size your main it will still be able to hold your new main safely. The aad, and reserve are still useful in it. If you down size your reserve later the same still applies. Remember most rigs are cheaper bought as a whole but you can mix and match components until you got just what you want. Don't be in a hurry to rush out and buy a rig! Take your time and look for the deal that's what you need, not what you think you want. Some folks pray on young jumpers. Always ask for advice from a rigger or older jumper you trust! jumpervali

The beer rules go back to generations I was too young to know, but if it aint broke don't fix it. The beer rules are like pieing. They are set in place as a celebration. Some also use them as a good natured way to enforces some safety rules..like beer lines in the landing area. If Your name is on a board somewhere it means you've got at least one "jump story." When I have a reserve save I always ask for a half gallon. Then I let them know I like "moosetracks, turtletracks, or hog heaven." jumpervali

Most all their 7 cell canopies have a TSO and can be used as a reserve or a main. Their Fury 220 is a nice B.A.S.E. canopy. Thats what I use sometimes. I've got 500+ landings on one. jumpervali

Glidepath was/is a good canopy. The firelite Is going to be for your reserve I take it? They made canopies until the mid 90's. The company made many good canopies mains & reserves. They were forced to retire their corporate name and reopen as Flight concepts due to the (Nova) problems. All their products are very Good canopies with exception of the one. jumpervali

Vector only will be stitched across the top of the yoak. The mention of say Vector II V5, Will mean a large Vector II. The (V) is the size. I have a Vector II V2 it holds a 170r/220m. And its very full. jumpervali

I've had nothing but good transactions buying online. I've got a XRS off dz.com from a guy overseas, 120 mz reserve from Chicago-dz.com, and a new Viper 105 off ebay. All great and fast transactions. Most skydivers are trustworthy folks! I've got 1300 total in my little rig, there are advantages in shopping online. jumpervali

Vector II was made with a single pin reserve flap. It was and upgrade made so the container would hold one of the NEW square canopies. Most old Vectors are called a wonderhog, or a sweethog. The Vector II was made starting in the late 80's or early 90's. I'm not sure of the exact date. There are a lot of good Vector II being used today. The Vector III was started around 96. It has a lot of good stuff going on with it, plus they look cool! jumpervali

Dock in a side body, grab each lift web, and give it a crank. This is a standard AFF maneuver. It's kinda fun too! jumpervali

In most of the cases when an experienced jumper opts for a cypres, and uses this as the event that makes it a needed item. They need to consider "is this the canopy size I'd be willing to land unconscious." I'd dump the reserve also that's what the AAD fires. jumpervali

If you make it to Airsportz we do have camping and hot showers. Depending on the dzo you folks may be able to sleep over in the clubhouse. Try to make it by on Saturday or Sunday and we will be flying the porter, we fly a 182 on Thurs. and Fri. A lot of dz.com's jump there. Hope you can fit it into your travel plans. Ps. I'm the dzo so you can sleep in the clubhouse if you want. jumpervali

The line from the break stowing loop to the toggle will have to be replaced. This will need to be fingered trapped into place. Then you can experiment with your new needed setting, then finger trap the setting you like. jumpervali
