  1. My ex-wife was showing off pictures of the cabin we stayed in on our honeymoon at work the day after our return. That night I got to see them. I asked if she had shown the one of the hot tub room, yes she replied. Then I asked do you see the nude redhead in the mirror..... I still have fun with that one. jumpervali
  2. Hay dutchboy, You kinda remind me of santa handing out candy. Your IFR map is the list of good kids. You got a great job handing out good news....See ya soon at airsportz. jumpervali
  3. Thats what it reads like to me too. On the 8:30 aopa post. jumpervali
  4. A BIC is the first step for both. For AFF you'll need 360 minutes of freefall, and your proficiency card filled out before the course starts. There is a lot of work to do in filling the cards requirements. I recommend getting the card even if you don't have the FF time yet. That way you can focus your remaining time needed on your required jumps to fill it. An AFF card not only requires you to fly like a madman, but also teach pre and post jump materials. Tandem is a lot easier to get qualified for and will keep you busy. After a BIC, 500 jumps, 3 years in sport-"time sense your 1st jump," and tandem camp, then your 5 level 2 jumps your making money. I used my tandem income to pay for my AFF training and JCC's. Yes, I said JCC's, it took me more than 1 camp to get it right. Be prepared to leave your ego at the door when you go to AFF camp. Even the hottest skydiver can have a hard time at AFF camp. Train for AFF flying, there is no other type of flying to prepare you but focused AFF training dives. Most of all you have to love the sport, because that is what you will be personally representing as an instructor. Have fun! jumpervali s&ta sl/aff/tandem-I-01

    taboo????

It is sorta an unspoken rule not to date a student you are working with. It can cause the student to be distracted from their learning. Too many times I've seen students not be able to separate a failure in the dive with a failure in the relationship, and it damages their whole skydiving hobby. Or when they are off student status maybe they get interested in another jumper and the instructor is then distracted from his job teaching people to save their lives. Also from a business standpoint it sets you up for a whole can of worms with harassment laws as they are nowadays. It's just not the proper time to be fishing when their under your instruction. If their not working with you and will not be working with you then it's cool. But that's just the way I see it. jumpervali aff-i
  7. I've had one that is still very vivid after several months. I was doing a demo into a fair ground at night from a C-182 with 3 other guys. As we fly over at 3 grand I think to myself how cool all the lights look and how tight the landing area was, but it's big enough. I exit and deploy as I'm looking down on all the colorful light on all the rides spinning and flashing. I then began to set up into the saddle but I'm not getting inflation. Pillow and handle come out and I am getting line stretch again as I see the double Ferris wheel rise up in front of me. The rising lights and the spinning is beautiful to me. I then notice the dark shadow of the trees behind me as I fall below the tree line. Then whack the reserve is inflated and I'm able to land just in time to hit the demo landing area. What a way to start your day. jumpervali
  8. You should do a tracking dive soon. Exit anyway you like, then do a LEG turn 180, go from neutral into a track. Another leg turn 180 the other way (right or left) and track again. Rinse and repeat. These two skills are for the formations that you'll be flying to and from. Most of all have fun and keep it simple. jumpervali
  9. I've had a tandem student get "up on her knees" then I had to ask her to get up on her knees only. I was more red in the face than she was. jumpervali
  10. When you have your reserve packed next time have it put into place. You can always unhook it from the riser, but if it isn't placed around the deployment cable when the repack is done you HAVE to open he pack job. If you normally don't use it cool, but if it's a must for the one dz then your ready. Just hook it up. jumpervali

  12. This is from their web sight "OUR CERTIFICATION. We are a Certified Group Member of The United States Parachute Association. USPA is your symbol of Professionalism, Competency, and Safety. We are also members of the Parachute Industry Association, and the World Skydiving Association." I've been told that they have requested to be taken from the uspa.org list of member dzs for that state. i would one day like to jump in vegas, do you think a newbie like me would be allowed? Signs point to NO jumpervali sl/tandem/aff-i-01 s&ta
  13. No tats here, but I do have a lot of scars. They dont seem to get the same request for viewings though. thats going to leave a mark jumpervali
  14. A tandem instructor told his student "after we exit I'll set the drogue and give you a reach around, so you'll know it's time to have fun infront of your video guy" jumpervali
  15. Your right! We are not just skydivers, we are the sport of skydiving. We are what the public see. chin up, chest out, arch baby! jumpervali
  16. I've heard about this business practice as of lately at SLV. I in no way agree with this policy. If you must be a graduate of HIS aff program to safely jump there that's bull. His aff program is the same that any USPA dropzone uses, or he is in violation of bsr's. If he is the business owner he can deny your right to jump at his DZ. But.... He is on very shaky ground when it comes to as why. If HIS students acquire the same A license you have (USPA) and are then allowed to jump there, then your civil liberties are being infringed on. I'm sure the ACLU would like this one. If he is multimillion dollar. I know that's a bit much, but a savvy business man would know this. At one point a few years ago he tried to get skydiving state regulated so any non-uspa dz could not operate in the state. The uspa went to bat for skydiving to remain unregulated, even though he was uspa. They want government to stay out of our sport. So mister uspa dz only wanted to shut down skydiving except for himself. If he was so "lets have uspa dropzones only" in this state why can't a uspa licensed member jump there, isn't it the best program? He is so full of leaks all his greed is pouring out. jumpervali
  17. It is very sad when anyone is involved in an accident. As an instructor I carry a lot of the misery home with me when a student is just simply injured, and ask myself what can I do to make sure this doesn't happen again. I am forced to look back on some of my introduction to instruction materials. What is learning? A new conditioned response or behavior to stimulus. Sounds scientific, but a student has to snap to an arch in a knee-jerk fashion. Also emergence handles must be pulled, and pulled again. It requires a lot of work on my part, and some discomfort to the student, But a little pain avoids a lot for all of us. I've seen the same thing with one of my students, but he cleared his cutaway at 2000 ft. and landed without injury. jumpervali

I felt the same way on my 36th jump. now 1500 later I know that there's always a chance for it to happen again, but I can do what is needed and not freak out. Congrats and buy your rigger beer, beer, beer jumpervali
