It's not....You're probably talking about a Phantom3. The Shadow2 is the latest in the line-up, and there is no immediate replacement/follow up for either of those two.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Having witnessed a few big suit cutaways, the most stable moment they had was usually the first 2 seconds after the cutaway. When they picked up speed, they usually seem to start an end over end tumble. I agree its a personal choice, but with big suits mine would be with an RSL/Skyhook. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The suit will always stretch a few percent due to seems setting and booties stretching. But shoot me or macca an email at jarno@phoenix-fly.com or macca@phoenix-fly.com in case its not to your liking, and we will get you sorted and either fix or do a full new suit thats 100% fitting to your build, based on where the current one needs a few more cm (or inches) JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

A canopy will always have more range, require less training and allow people to carry 50 times more stuff than any wingsuit. Aside from a full on transformer deceptacon invasion, not many military scenarios where they would be useful JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I favour Premiere, as the slowmo's there look nicer, and you have the easy option of remapping/interpreting 29/25 fps framerates when working with various formats. FCP tends to not handle 60fps stuff that well when trying to convert that to normal (slowmo) speeds. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

For those who didnt make it to sunny Puerto Rico. We had a blast there, thanks to Scott Calentine and Andreea doing load organizing, and Skwrl and myself had a blast doing photo and video for all the flocks. Two full boogie videos will be up soon, but for now already enjoy the photos and this one preview video we already put up! http://skwrl.smugmug.com/Skydiving/Puerto-Rico-2013/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtVH_AlYXTQ JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The star system is a bit of a rough indicator. In terms of freefall/distance, the Ghost has a bit more over the Havok. In terms of agility the Havok wins. Some people like flying with grippers, and cant stand the feeling of having nothing in their hands. Initially not having grippers will feel a bit weird, but the cleaner way of flying (not using bad techniques like using grippers to break/adjust) will make your flying a lot more smooth and agile. Here is some video shot with the Havok over Puerto Rico yesterday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtVH_AlYXTQ JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I think people's ideas about wingsuit design and history tend to vary a bit per person. And not always based on accurate knowledge, but more based on personal oppinion. There will always be some influence across the market and various brands. But it seems like a bit of a waste of time to keep pushing every thread for PF, Sfly, Tony or Squirrel into a comparison game where people scream which suit influenced what. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The Apache in that light looks a lot like the CCPF (a fun big wing experiment we did at PF over 4 years ago, pic pic), almost 2 years prior to the creation of the suits you mention. Who copied who? Or was there copying involved? I think the answer to both questions is a lot simpler. When looking at the basic outline of any suit (be it the current big suits from Intrudair, S-Fly, PF, Tony or Squirrel) its easy to point and say 'copy'. But give a 5 year old a picture of Patrick DeGuyardon's (in comparison) tiny wingsuit, and tell them to 'make it bigger' and you'll end up with the same rough outline most big suits sport these days. There are only so many (or should I say few) ways you can make armwings and legwings bigger. In the end, most 'big wings' will end up with roughly the same outline/shape. Is that copying or simply the limits of the human body as a basic frame to build around? In terms of inlet design, they are not much different from what we've had on all previous versions of the suits, be it for some small changes. Its the subtle differences in the suit that in the end determine handling, inflation, steering and more. With the new V's we think we have some new changes in design that are a great improvement/addition to the previous products we've released. Exactly how these new suits vary from whats out there, we'll detail on the website once we go towards official release. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

An official release for the new V's big borther is coming up soon. Though we have arrived at what we believe is a final prototype, we always have a few months of additional testing before its available to the public. In design, the suit resembles the Vampire a lot. Agility, speed and ease of flying have been our main focus, and the reason we choose the V(5) as a starting point in the design. More detailed overviews on the actual improvements and new features of these suits will soon emerge. But the way things look, templates for various sizes will soon be made and we'll roll out with an official release on that suit and the 'other' new V. If you are coming to Puerto Rico coming week, I will have the suit with me for those wanting to see. Official dates for release I cant give you yet, but you'll probably see the suits on the website before all the snow is gone so stay tuned... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

My guess would be Cypres not being able to take a recall of 20.000 units in one go, so for now the solution presented is a temp. fix with a quick answer, while they investigate a more fitting solution for long term. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Got a Birdman Blade2 if you can find one. Those cutaways always seemed to be sewed in to the point where they definately never come out But jokes aside...also personaly prefer having one, and would rather put my faith in the dozens of situations where they saved somebodies ass, than the nightmare of a situation that has never occured. Even IF a student would pull one out, whats the worst that can happen when you're at 5000 ft or higher? Sounds like an easier situation to deal with than the absence of one in a situation a lot lower where you want and really need it! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Sadly happened outside frame, but remember Zach last year exiting without arm wings zipped, seeing him do them up while diving to a formation. Thats a great showcase of skill or a great showcase of stupidity depending on how you look at it. For me it was just pissing my pants watching it JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

We dont recommend jumping without a cutaway, but from the basejumping community, there where some requests for having the suit made without it cutaway. So on the new orderforms and colordesigner (and 2 new suits) Phoenix-Fly will soon debut, its an option. In general, Id recommend having one, for the reasons people mention above here. Id leave it on. For anyone ordering a suit from Phoenix-Fly, they are made with a cutaway standard. As a company, we for sure wouldnt dare phase out the cutaway. Its far to important to have a safety feature on the suit that works regardless of clothing worn/temperature/build/fit. The stretching sleeve Robert created for the Venom will be discontinued for that reason. Regardless of construction, clothing worn is too big a factor in consistant performance during emergencies. Cutaways work...if you ever need it...you'll be happy you have it... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

With the size of those goggles you could probably just throw an Iphone in there as well JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

But it also doesnt seem to have influenced the outcome in a negative way. Either with or without an RSL, the issue seemed to be the camera mount on the helmet catching the reserve bridle. A similar big sidemounted camera (with a box on it) caused a wingsuit fatality in Holland a few months back as well, with the reserve risers getting caught behind the box (no RSL present). Sadly more related to cameragear (and the Skyhook RSL decission based on the use of that gear) than being related to wingsuits. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

From what I heard, you've been unstable at most other altitudes as well JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Are you implying I will some day? I must have missed the part where I talked about wingsuit instructors and a growing empire in that post, as all I could see was me questioning Simon sometimes advocating weird safety choices, and me personally preferring to stick to the tried and proven ones we've used for years, more related to common sense (that you also repeat later in your post?). You don't have students? Giving advice, be it online or in person, you have to remember yourself every once in a while that people with less experience will be taking your word as their gospel. So it doesn't hurt to keep that advice on the safe side. Telling people a more aggressive canopy may end up being a better choice in a very weird wording, to me, sounded like a very strange type of advice, not related to the orginal post/question. Your answer (that small part about X-braced canopies) was the only direct answer I read, but shame you mostly seemed to use it as an opening on an unrelated axe you had to grind on wingsuit instruction. Though views on the use of RSL/Skyhook vary greatly within the skydive community, the general consensus is that more fatalities could have been prevented by the use than accidents have been caused. Most of out sponsored athletes have RSL/Skyhook equipped rigs, and aside from malfunctions related to entanglement with camera gear and/or CRW related activities (similar to normal skydives), we see no reason to not have an RSL connected if present. With some of the newer, large surface wingsuits from various manufacturers having an increased potential for instability on longer delays after a cutaway (legwing extentions and lower armwings going beyond the point of being collapseable, tumbling end over end after a cutaway becomes a much bigger risk) we do from PF in fact highly recommend the use of an RSL/Skyhook if present. The chances of opening issues/off headings in general is going to be much higher on the more aggressive canopy. And if both screw up with an offheading opening, guess which one is going to give you more violent/quick things to deal with. I really dont get all the fringe talk when it comes to safety. You really seem to make it a trend to try and find stuff where you can advise against the common taught safety standards. But maybe I'm just not getting what you're trying to say. Focus on the broad strokes and more common sense choices in safety in what you teach, and don't focus so much on those one or two lucky exceptions. It will make your teaching and students a whole lot safer in terms of LO/Coaching work and the general safety and gear choices you'll inspire them to make down the line. Just my 2 cents. So in short, you loose depth perception. Recommendable to only rig that way in a skydiving environment. Depth perception may be a handy feature of our eyeballs in the base environment JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?
