Still Looking for a little help.
Vectracide replied to aberardi678's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Fear is usually directly related to knowledge, or lacktherof. In learning to jump, this couldn't be more prevelant. My advice to you is do a class refresher. Talk to your instuctors and ask them to give you a brush up. Especially your EP's. Plan this on a nice day in the morning with a definitive plan to jump right after the class portion is over. Then jump as much as you can in a short time. That will chill the fears quick. Familiarization is your weapon..... ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -

Wings freefly pud handle and brake stowage
Vectracide replied to propilot's topic in Gear and Rigging
Why? I prefer them for a couple reasons. They dont have the wear problem that spandex does. Very durable, (against rough, or sharp suface as a short time contact issue) My experience with both styles, is the Cordura style has a more secure fit for the PC. At least the Wings style. And obviously, for the reasons that I not need explain......no more prematures. Edit to add: They look hella nicer that spandex to boot! ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -

You obviously have not owned a Wings. The Talon2 I had was a piece of shit. No where near the construction of a wings. Its also the most comfortable rig I have ever worn. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

Wings freefly pud handle and brake stowage
Vectracide replied to propilot's topic in Gear and Rigging
There are 2 things that caused the PC to come out as I see it. Keep in mind that this isn't just speculation, it is video proof and on ground tests. 1st thing: A zero-p PC folded with the zero-p outfacing is very slippery against Spandex material. On the ground, it is very very easy to pull the PC out of the pouch due to minimal friction between the 2 surfaces. The PC test with the cordura pouch required much more force to remove it from the pouch. 2nd thing: The mere shape and design of the FF handle that wings has developed allows it to catch alot of air when knocked loose. It will flail about violently as it catches air from all of the exposed flat surfaces. Its shape is damn near like an airfoil. The binding tape that holds it to the PC is too long, which contributes to the problem. If it was attatched directly to the PC at its apex (which causes another set of problems) the flailing would not be such an issue. Had the PC been a hackey style, I don't believe there would have been any issues. And to address your question on the flap covering the handle, yes it was tight. Mine is VERY tight. But that part of the equasion is moot. Here is why. First off, we already know that the handle came out from between the flap and tray due to container contact with another jumper. Secondly, the rig that I had my premature in, normally holds a hackey Zero-P PC. The owner has never had a premature with this set up. Our PC's were the same size. The only difference was the handle vs. hackey. Now this container was not a wings, so the BOC spandex pouch may be designed differently. But how different can you really make spandex pouches? Hope this clears it up.. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
Wings freefly pud handle and brake stowage
Vectracide replied to propilot's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hey Trent, and all that are concerned about the Wings FF handle. I have had 2 wings rigs now, and I cannot say enough about them. I have never had my handle come out on me to date. However, I do have one piece of advice for all that have this handle on their system. If for whatever reason you put your main on another container that has a spandex BOC, you are taking a huge chance there. I had a cutaway, unrelated to the handle...line twists, and was jumping a buddies second rig with my main in it the rest of the day. The rig was in good shape with a spandex BOC and a flap for the handle to tuck under. On exit, the back of my rig and another rig contacted and knocked my handle loose. Due to the shape of the handle and its inherent drag coeficient, it was enough to pull my PC out of the pouch. It took 6.5k to do it, but it happened. I do not believe that if I had a hackey, this would not have happened. Here is video of that day, chop included. Needless to say, I started drinking after the premature.... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=guestpass&id=h37h5 ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
So according to your own source of information, you have proven yourself wrong on the Golden Retriever Tested Passed Failed % Golden Retriever 659 551 108 83.6% Labrador Retriever 644 587 57 91.1% American Pit Bull Terrier 469 391 78 83.4% Now I threw in the Labrador Retriever in there, as many get the Golden and Lab breed confused as they are very close Genetically. Your information was based on a old study, not current to 2004. Either way, the study is missing one key piece of information that makes it invalid, socialially diverse testing. The study you say was done in a suburd in Texas. It is unfair to test temperment in dogs if you do not test the same breed in all social/economic classes. It is widely known, that the Pit Bull breed is more prevelently owned by those in the lower social/economic class. Either for the "I have a big mean dog, so I am big and mean too" loser, or the fighting dog owner. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, as I am sure you are. A middle class person that loves the breed and raises it accordingly. The problem is that the APBT is sought out by morons for its specific aggresiveness and singlular loyalty to the owner. These are the individuals that are generally the idiots in the news. Please don't get me wrong, as I stand by the statement that a dogs temperment has alot to do with nurture. But you cannot deny/ignore certain dogs nature. I am not crosshairing the APBT, but alot of other dogs you have pointed out as well. The little yapper napolian complex rats out there are some of the worst biters of them all, but they lack the ability to do much harm to an 10+ child and adults. Therefore they do not get the negative attention that they should. When is the last time you heard this.... "A wild pack of Toy Poodles when on a killing rampage in the streets of Dallas today. Local deputies had to empty thier guns into the viscious dogs after they had mauled 4 people, killing one." Yeah.....I'd like to see that... ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

Dude, your going about it all wrong. Buy really nice system. Buy Mac G4 Powerbook. Install all your tunes on Itunes. Get the airport reciever and plug into the wall behind stereo and plug that optical port into your stereo. Whala....wireless Itunes that you can take anywhere with you (reciever) and play your music wirelessly. Even the DZ. Course, this will cost you around 4k, but whos countn? ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

QuoteIn a seven year study ranking the likelihood of 100 different dog breeds to bite a person, the APBT ranked 96th, more than 50 places behind a Golden Retriever.Quote Not that I disagree with alot of what you said in your post, but unless you can supply some kind of proof to that statement, I call bullshit. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

Should students be made to look at fatality pictures?
Vectracide replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I put up a poll a couple days later about "do you want to see skydivers burn in"? and the results were at first confusing. The written replies were mostly of those that were irritated at the thought of censorship, which by the way had nothing to do with the poll and my thoughts whatsoever. So, the majority of those replies were in favor of seeing dude go splat. Whatever, hey, its their right to watch what they want to watch. BUT....the proof is in the poll itself. 75% voted to NOT see the bounce. So, it seems that once again, the minority can make alot of noise making it seem that they are the majority, but in fact, 75% of all skydivers that voted in that poll did NOT want to see someone lose their life on tape. I am however in favor of taking the neccesary steps to bring a student to understanding, no matter the level, if it is the only way to get thru the thick head of thiers. Should it be forced upon the whole, without prejudice? I am not so sure. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
