Beer light doesn't go on until the last jumper is on the gound, the aircraft has arrived at the hangar and has come to a complete stop. There are many reasons that folks may not land with their main. One may be lack of experience. I had my first cutaway on a coach jump. Another jumper caught the free bag, but the main is still 30 feet up in a tree.(Course it is similar to a fish story, keeps getting higher in that tree) Sometimes...there are cranky people that won't allow you on thier property. Sometimes an old main isnt worth the effort. It only takes a little pixie dust......

Sometimes there are circumstances beyond peoples control. Agreeably there should have been a phone call, or something. Additionally, some DZ's will having swooping ponds that only allow for landing in a certain direction. It is generally the rule that you follow the first man down. Downwinders can kill you, but then so can power lines trees and the like. Sometimes it is better to land off (in an open space) and into the wind if you know the guy in front of you has made an error. I don't know if this is the case in your scenerio. Ultimately, you are responsible for your safety. I am glad that everything turned out well. It only takes a little pixie dust......
