No empathy here either. Other than that a fellow human being got hurt, and I wish him well. There is another, resurrected thread: you can't afford health insurance, you shouldn't be skydiving! Or spending your money on skydiving, or being a dz bum. To the organizers of the benefit: don't hand the proceeds over to the hospital. Instead reserve those for filing for medical bankruptcy; much better use of the money!!!

How should Tsarnaev be handled? Criminal or Enemy Combatant?
mpohl replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
Soooooo, we as society realize/agree that a 19-year old is too immature to buy a bottle of beer. Forbidden! No, NO!!!!! But if the same immature 19-year old commits a crime, he will be charged as an adult! No problems w/ applying the death penalty. Anybody else see anything wrong with that picture?? -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Ustinov "One man's freedom fighter, is another man's terrorist." Truer words have never been spoken. P.S.: There would not be a USA today w/o "terrorists", "freedom fighters."

How should Tsarnaev be handled? Criminal or Enemy Combatant?
mpohl replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
Thus, an indiscriminately targeted gun, like in all directions/ shooting at whatever moves, is like a bomb. Actually, there is a difference. A gun of any type is a directed weapon that puts holes in a person it is pointing at. Whereas a bomb is indiscriminate and will harm anyone within a radius, regardless if the person is an intended target or not. -

So then, let's drop the terrorism charge in the Boston case, once and for all! Murder, yes. Terrorism no! To the dead it does not make no difference: bomb vs AR/AK. They are all the same! -

Why is a bomb a weapon of mass destruction, but not an AR-15? Three people died from two bombs, but one gun killed 16 in Aurora or 22 in Newtown. Why is one terrorism and one "only" mass murder? -

Not too long ago the US would object to any form of torture. Then, torture was ok for enemy combatants. Now, we have law makers calling for torture of US citizens by civil authorities in the US. WHAT'S NEXT!? April 22, 2013 NY State Senator Calls for Torture in Boston Case By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A New York state senator is advocating torture to extract information from terror suspects including the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing. Republican Sen. Greg Ball of the Hudson Valley had taken heat for his Twitter posting Friday. He asked who wouldn't want to use torture against the second suspect in the Boston bombing. He continued to push the position Monday in a tweet and a press release. He says he's not shy to join those who believe torture is justified in the war on terror to save lives. He says that includes suspects apprehended in the United States by civil authorities. Ball says the Boston incident shows this may be a new normal and American should see it as a wake-up call to use a different set of rules. -

Some of you may be aware of this but for those that aren't the rain falls from the sky and makes you wet! In order to avoid getting wet, it is advisable to have some sort of barrier between you and the rain. If outdoors, an umbrella or hat will protect you or a raincoat will protect your body. Other ways to avoid getting wet would be to take shelter under something or stay indoors. I hope this will help some of our newer members and refresh the memory of some of the older ones.

I wish you the best of luck but do not share your optimism. If I were the insurance rep, I'd take the decision maker of your school district out to a very nice lunch or dinner (escorts are optional). Would stress the long-standing history and beneficial relationship that we have enjoyed as a company and district. And that we (the insurance company) will educate the patient, and have only the insured best interest in mind. Who do you think your rep will support? The insurance company can wait it out. Question is: can you?! Sorry if that sounds cynical. But it is how corporate America works. And you are making a possibly fatal mistake if not realizing this.

Obama pondering using executive decision on gun control

I call this utter BULL SHIT!! Choke on this, dimwit. By Martin Niemoeller... First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me. -
Probably the most advanced facility of its kind is the Heidelberg Ion-Therapy Center: http://www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de/About-us.124447.0.html?&L=1 Out-of-pocket cost to you if you were insured in the EU, probably $0!!! As a medical tourist, you can probably engage for $25k! Still not too bad, given the fees here in the US. P.S.: Imagine. All that, at $0 co-payment, deductible, nada. Right out of Star Trek. Your's if you need it...! http://www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de/fileadmin/pano/HIT_Behandlungsraum/Behandlungsraum.html

Well, if you are hoping for a white knight in shining armor. Hope on and die! I eventually transferred my cancer care to Europe after loosing group insurance here in the US. Of course, I was lucky in that I had and have comprehensive health insurance in "socialist" Europe. So, a CT that routinely runs $5,000 here in the US, cost me $0 (or Euro) in Europe. And the interpretation was MUCH MUCH more thorough/ also.

Obama pondering using executive decision on gun control
mpohl replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
In my books, the common sense is that NOBODY needs to have a gun. Not an assault weapon, a rifle, nor a pistol! Law enforcement, yes, military, yes. That's about it. That's COMMON sense. -
Again, the absurdity of the freest country in the world on display. Never mind that one can get life-behind-bars for stealing a slice of pizza (three strikes) !!!! The sisters were just displaying their love for life and the police. At most, they should be held accountable for the damage caused, but that's about it. Come on, at 22 and 23... Four years?! That's outrageous.

Sorry, but that's the sad state of healthcare affairs in the US. Unbeknownst to many, more than 36,000 ppl a year die because of lack of access to adequate health care. That's one 9/11 every month!!! Also, see here for today's news: http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/09/health/international-health-report/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 P.S.: One can only appreciate the absurdity of healthcare in the US, after having experienced how it is done in other countries. I have received much better, much cheaper healthcare in Europe and the Dominican Republic (a so-called third world country).

Fine WVA girls? Fine girls anywhere in the US??? Bro'! You must be deleterious. Never seen a bitch as fine as in Russia, or the Ukraine.

Russia has a 13% rate on income tax. Search for "Gerard Depardieu." At last, salvation is near!!! To all the GOP followers, Texans, and lawless rockets out there. Go East! GOOD RIDDANCE!!! P.S.: Of course, that 13% extends to the 1%!!!!

Awesome addition. Thanks for sharing.

Easy, easy,... Wait a few days and LaPierre (and his deranged NRA brethen), will state that all firefighters need to carry guns. Only after having secured the location of the blaze, will they be allowed to fire "fight". Otherwise it is "Open Fire!".... Sure sound like another crazy who got himself a gun. But, as you keep telling us, Counselor, crazy people have the right... Our inalienable right to life takes a distant second place.
