  1. skydive san diego. a couple of otters, and a caravan. nice people, good staff, and a pretty large fun jumper base. you can see mexico, the ocean, and some mountains, all at the same time in freefall. this time of year the landing field is nice and green, and shorts and t shirt on a good day..
  2. the dz i work at has about 25ish vigil 1, and about 7-10 vigil 2. we replaced all of the cutters with type 3, which come standard on v2`s. entering our 5 year on some of them, and no low battery signal on any of them yet. the v2 is a nice slim design for riggers too! no factory testing, no expensive mailing back to factory. plus you can keep track of jump # on each rig.. my 2 pennies
  3. go for your faa senior rigger ticket. simon wade from skydiving services. hes in boulder city, just outside of vegas. runs a nice training course in a great shop.
  4. from one dave to another. he was a one of a kind!!!he will be missed!!! always made me laugh! loved it when he would spit out his gum at me in freefall while he was filming....
  5. i`m wondering if anyone has any idea if a 9 or 10 year old vx is the same as a 3 year old vx. both from NZ. similar jump numbers.. any thoughts or suggestions???
  6. not sure on the B , but there is a 1000 jump min to jump at sdsd without an aad...
  7. i believe the vigil 1 control head is too big for ri`s standards, possible splitting of the window on he rig. the directions are them just covering their asses, like everyone else... just my .02

  9. i have a pair of oakley`s with rx lenses.had them for the last 1500 jumps, and the tinting is still scratch free.still kinda depends on your blindness level
  10. looking at all the different color tandem canopies i get to jump... stay away from flourescent orange, it is the most faded one.black goes to dark grey, and most others just fade out a bit. white of course goes light brown over time. this is with packing indoors as well...
  11. i have the same size jav, with a vx 88. its friggin tight ,but it works. its a well used main and i`m a good packer.it shouldn`t be that tight. there is enuff stuff out there to get a bigger container..
  12. just wondering if there are any dz`s out there that have made the staff camera flyers switch from 35mm film to digital for the tandem/aff vids. what kind of bitching from staff, praises from customers, etc....
  13. i wear a pair of prescrition oakley`s. i believe the model is called "five" my prescription is not too strong tho, making the lenses fairly thin. i have about 1000 jumps with them, never been blown off my face, even without a helmet sometimes. of course i have a strap on them as well...
  14. dude, you don`t even wanna hear my horror story that i`ve been going thru. hint.... i betcha i`m more pissed off than you, and i have been waiting longer... the whole police thing has been in my mind too....not a cool way to run a business.bad advertising for icarus for him being a so called icarus service center.i coulda ordered a new canopy and had it by now.
  15. does anyone have any info on what i need to do to get my FAA senior rigger`s ticket. i am a canadian rigger A. have been for a few years now. any information would be great....
  16. i`ve been trying to get ahold of him as well. same thing, email, calls. no reply...
  17. i just had a cutaway last week. while i was following my freebag into a farmer`s field, i saw 3 coyote`s chasing it as it hit the ground. i saw them at about 200 feet and screamed wildly to try and scare them away. boy, did they ever hightail it out of there. found my bag, and shortly after my main. cool to scare wildlife away like that.
  18. i`m looking for a place to send my vx 88 to get relined. i`m also considering a jvx lineset, is there a big difference?
  19. i have the same size container, and i have an fx 94 in it. it is TIGHT. it is an old beat main as well...guess it depends on how good a packer you are..
  20. tandems arew the way to go if you want to make $$$. i made extra by packing reserves and packing tandems, if you find the right dz, there is a lot of $$$ to be made. i made more in 6 months skydiving than i made at my old job as a carpenter.i am un employed right now and loving it! skydive season in canada is over..:(
  21. i was wondering how many tandems i need to have under my belt to cross over from strong to vector....
  22. i won a packing contest a few years back and i had a reserve ride.[smirk!]
  23. well said, rob. i love working as a skydiver, but those long days working your ass off takes it`s toll. i agree with a pay hike, because jump rates have gone up, why not our pay....it is the customer that has to pay more. all we are asking for is a bit more each jump, and fair time off. being expected to work 10 to 12 hour days 6 to 7 days a week can burn a guy out and take the fun out of jumping. especially if there is no time given for fun jumps.it is hard to keep staff happy when they are all overworked and underappreciated...
  24. i won a packing competition a few years ago. the first 4 packed got to go on the next and last load of the day. i was forst ready to go. i had my first reserve ride that evening..... ooooooops
