Help save British Columbia skydive club.
skyfreek replied to Klassen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
its a bit of a clusterfuck. facebook, and email awareness of the issue is going on within the local area jumpers. cspa has put out a couple links to the issue. ian f has been on cbc radio. the mayor of pitt meadows is on the airport board, and has bassically backed off, saying ian should be keeping this between the airport manager and himself. some local jumpers are encouraging email/letters to the officials of the city and the airport. trying to show support of the skydive business, and the local community spinoffs of the jumping customers. my opinion, the airport manager has some sort of a hate for flanny. Ian is pretty good with paperwork tho, being an ex lawyer. it will be interesting how this pans out. can 1 guy really chase away a big business? i hope not. -
one i did have a few guys teach me, but rob, you were the best mentor, with al macdonald coming in behind you

Problems with some staff at a DZ?
skyfreek replied to Alex89's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
hi. i work at skydive big sky. on behalf of the dz, and the owner, i am sorry for your experience. yes the "lady " at the front counter/ phone is a bitch. all of the people making excuses about the dz being busy, and her being stressed is bullshit, because she is always like that. a lot of us wish that we didn`t hear stories like this, but its the truth. we do have a very nice dz, with great facilities, and a great student/tandem safety record. a lot of fun jumpers and a great group of instructors. i would welcome you and your group to come skydive with us at skydive big sky. you will have fun. -
EhDub..... are you implying that you had to actually pack?

one of my friends is diabetic.he jumps on a regular basis. he controls his levels with the finger prick tool. when he is at the dz, he is careful, because he feels the adrenaline can alter his levels. jumping is fine, just get yourself under control first...

about 11 years ago, i had my gear bag stolen out of a car. i had to get a police report, i had pics of my stuff, and serial #`s of the big stuff. i was lucky enough to have my house insurance cover it. it was a claim over $8000. its sucked because it was in the middle of jumping season, but i ended up with brand new stuff! losing a couple vhs tapes and log books that could never be replaced was the worst part. dealing with the insurance guy was easy with the pics and serial #`s, and i had to get replacement quotes from 3 diff dealers. i f i didn`t have the pics and serial stuff, i think the insurance company would have tried to not replace some stuff... i did look at the local pawn shops, but i dont think a pawn dealer would take a rig...

Canadian Jumping in the US, Travel Insurance??
skyfreek replied to Morav's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i know a guy who shattered his leg on a landing. if he didn`t have insurance for the good ol usa, his bill would be over 100 grand. go to any insurance place, and ask. if youre going only for a short time, its pretty cheap. -
i have a pair of oakley`s with a few thousand jumps on them. tight to my face, so not a lot of air into my eyes. i like the plastic frames better than metal, it feels nicer once my helmet is on.i guess it all depends on how the glasses fit your face...

its 1000 jumps at sdsd.after 1000 jumps, you can have the option of not having one.thats what it was 2 years ago anyways

i have a white container and it has red on it as well. i have washed this container 3 times now. mild soap like everyone says, rinse it 2 more times than you think is enough. red will bleed a bit while the rig is hanging to dry. what i found helpful is after washing,is put the container in a front loading washer, and put it thru a spin cycle to get all the water out. hang to dry, with a fan on it for at least a couple days. the backpad foam will take a long time to completly dry...

what did you sell to skydive ?
skyfreek replied to AustinPerkins's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
sounds funny to say, but i sold my rig so i could jump. it was a newer one, so i got a lot for it, borrowed a rig for 3 months and bought a used cheaper one. -
four- one tandem- tension knots, a rental rig with a 60 jump wonder- this one was a wicked spinner, as he pulled in a spin, an experienced fun jumper couldn`t find the pc handle on a wingsuit jump, and a 1st jump student probably cutting away line twists..

i don`t have the specs, i will get them and measure a few. i have 31 of these parachutes, various jump numbers from 50 to 500. some of the lines are getting a bit fuzzy, and dark from wear

any ideas on how many jumps a student solo270 canopy can do before a line set replacement? dacron lines, landed on grass, packed indoors. fairly clean area to jump in.mostly Iad`s from a cessna, not a lot of freefall openings.
-
maybe try fanbelt spray. the stuff that makes them stop squeaking. might make it more grippy??? maybe?
-
there are 2 different dz`s there. 1 in abbottsford, and 1 in pitt meadows. abby has a porter, pitt has only cessnas. you`re looking at $35- $40 canadian per jump.skydive vancouver: 5112 Gladwin Rd, Abbotsford BC Canada and pacific skydivers: 730 11731 Baynes Rd Pitt Meadows, BC V3Y 2B3 (604) 465-7311

i have been jumping freakn stuff for 5 years. i have a suit, pants, camera jacket and 2 pairs of swoop shorts. 1 pair of shorts has almost 1000 jumps on them, and they are just faded, no bad wear points or rips. the cost seems to be way less than competition, and the delivery times were very quick. i have always been happy with the customer service from freaknsuits. i`d recommend the stuff to anyone!!

some that i have seen are a sewn loop, that has to be cut off if you want to remove canopy. i`m looking for something like pd slinks..
-
