yea, i have the surfire mount as well, actually, i have 2 of them...so i could probably rig one to fit on one side. Any suggestions on bullet cameras? Most of them that i have seen suck quality wise, and i did consider the go-pro but wasn't sure how high up it sits...Thanks for the response though

So, the deployment i'm about to go on is going to be unique, and i want a good camera i can mount to my helmet...obviously my skydiving set ups are too bulky....was thinking about a go-pro...anyone have a suggestion? Was going to post this in the photography/video section, but i dont know if it'd get as much attention. Please pm me or just reply to this! Thanks in advance P.S. it would need to mount to my kevlar and not get in the way of the nvg's...if there is such a thing possible. Would also prefer it to be able to have decent battery life, record a good hour +, decent to good quality vids.

thanks for all the advice. I probably wont get much for the PC 105, so i might just keep that for a momento or whatnot...my first "serious" camera set up. Will look into selling the HC 5 and helmet with it...Trust me, i do NOT want to get out of this sport. Just hate seein the gear sit in the bag/bin and go un-used. Thanks again for the advice.

so, long story short...i have almost 1000 jumps in a fairly short amount of time....although i've been in the sport for about 4+ years, the military has taken about 2+ years away from jumping. I'm about to go on another deployment (just got off a 7 month deployment, followed by a 3 month re-deployment (Haiti)) and i'm sick of seeing my Icon with Saber 120 sitting in the corner of my room...let alone my video equipment....just wondering if i should sell it all and buy new gear when i return, or store it again and hope not to deploy quickly upon return. The thought of selling my gear literally makes me sick, but the thought of not jumping and letting it sit isn't much better. I will be lucky to get a handfull of jumps in the next few months before i deploy, then it's 6 to 7 (i.e. almost 12) months before i return. Any advice is welcome....especially if you want to buy some gear (saber 2, 120...PD 150 reserve, ICON harness, PC 105 with bonehead optic, HC 5 with 2K composit, Rebel XTI and mounts)....i miss jumping whenever i want

i must have skipped a bit of your post. If you did flood the engine (leaving it on prime, gas leaking, etc) then yes, you want to clear that before push starting your bike to prevent further damage. The milky fluid would worry me the most. If you dont know what you are looking at, i'd get it to a shop...may be expensive, but it's probably better than working on it yourself and causing more damage.
-
you could try to run start it....that would let you know if it was just the battery. either find a decent hill or simply run with the bike (holding clutch, bike in 1st) and when you get it going good let the clutch go and jump on...should start. Think of push starting an older manual transmition car. It works, but takes practice to get right, and you might look stupid pushing/jumping onto the bike.....but it works

pretty cool "media-ish" view on skydiving. Could be a whuffo and see a lot of different aspects, explained by jumpers in this vid/compilation

So, dont know if this is the right forum, but....have any skydivers worked with the Afghanistan National Police?? I'm about to deploy with a mentoring team there and will be a bit "alone and unafraid" with my platoon. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them, as i know many jumpers are also in the military. Any advice will help (even if it's working with the terps out there...my Pashto is decent, but not great). Semper Fi

the problem i ran into was that i worked so much my fun jumping was all but gone (limited to 1...maybe 2 fun jumps a day). I was making bank and loved it, but i lost a bit of enjoyment from skydiving. Dont get me wrong, i loved seeing a tandems face upon landing, nervousness upon exit, etc, but i entered a routine and the money became an issue. I loved how much i was making, and it was fun. Luckily the military stepped in with deployments and all i've been able to do is fun jumps the last 2 years. It's nice being able to do your own thing, with jumpers you like. Working is a great way to make money, but it can take over your skydiving. Not a bad thing as it pays the bills (and where i was working it paid quite well)....but it did seperate me from some of my other jumpers, as i didn't have the time to do as many fun jumps as i had wished.

This Is Who Obama Wants To Give Another 400 Million

in doing my pre-deployment training and talking to many Afghan natives, i'd like to point out that there is a difference between the Taliban and the insurgents...although the media lables all of them Taliban because that's who we ousted from power. Yes, a lot of Taliban are fighting, but the Taliban in general are people that attended Madrasas....not radicals. When they got the power, some went radical...not all. -
So it was an older picture, but about to be deployed again i think it is fitting. It said: Americans are not at war. Americans are at the shopping mall. Marines are at war. All-be-it an exaggeration, i think it holds some truth...and yes it says "Marines," but you can substitute soldier, sailor, airmen...whatever fits you. IMHO i believe the average American only thinks about the war when he/she hears about another Marine dying. When talking to an Afghanistan immigrant, he said that the "insurgents" know how to win...dissuade the Americans as to why they are fighting. I see this happening, and it really irks me as i'm about to deploy again. What happened to the media showing at least some of the good that comes from conflict rather than just showing death rates? I'm interested in hearing responses of what you think from the quote, American or not.

An interesting analysis of the flotilla coverage
Iceburner replied to falxori's topic in Speakers Corner
my only problem with this post is the fact that (s)he said "they were armed"....do you think it would be right to put soldiers boarding a vessel they think may contain illegal supplies aboard without arming them? Soldiers carry weapons, it's for their safety. I took an M4 to Haiti during the earthquake relief opperations, not because i thought i would ever need to use it, but it would be pointless to put us there unarmed incase something did occur. There is always a possibility that harm may be done to a soldier (or whatever you want to call them...i hate being called a soldier because i'm a Marine), but even on peace missions we carry weapons....we dont plan on using them, but you never know when you may need one...and being put in a foriegn country (or onto a foreign ship), it's nice to know you have that life saving tool at your disposal, if the need to use it becomes necessary. The US Navy regulary boards non-hostile ships with armed sailors....which I 100% agree with. Better to have and not need than to need and not have, especially when your life may become at risk. --edit to add: I'm glad that they acted professional and not brutal on this ship. In my experience with training foreign militaries, this concept is one we stress, but culturally is hard to apply to foreigners -
so few devildogs on here. USMC 2006-Present 0802, got back from the 22nd MEU last December, Left for Haiti in January, got back in April, about to deploy to Afghan in November as part of a PMT (Police Mentoring Team) Semper Fi

to say the movie was okay is being kind. I had heard the hype, and bought it right away, thank God the store had it on sale! What a waste. The CG was cool, but it moved about as quickly as a constipated snail shits. Needless to say i was very disapointed

i thought it looked like a vag... cool pic though, would like to know what caused it

So, i have a HC-5, and was still wondering if after a year this is a good camera to have. I also jump an outdated PC 105 for fun jumps, but have the HC-5 on my tandem video set-up (with rebel xt for stills). Just wondering how much i've missed out on in the past year, and yea....anything cool?? haha. I've done all my refresher jumps, have about 55 jumps in and am trying to stay in the loop with regards to tandem videos and whatnot. Also, is there any good "newish" editing software for a PC for HD?? Thanks for your help!

So, while i was on deployment i "quit" dipping...mainly due to the slim to none chance of getting any dip. Having returned, and the availablility of dip greatly increased, i have started again....which i (and my wife) really dont like. Was looking for any advice former "dippers" have on quitting. I tried just not buying it, but having a lot of other Marines around that dip always makes one available, and i really have a hard time saying "no" when one offers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as i do want to quit, but some days i crave for one......and i used to be confused (when i was younger) about how smokers couldn't just quit

Hey! I think I saw your picture in the paper! Don maybe if you add 40 years to me. Plus, you off the bat assume that i dont know the constitution
-
you're right, when you declare war on somebody for any reason it really tends to piss them off. what i was saying is that even though this SEAL was cleared, it will still hurt his career, as well as be looked poorly upon by Iraq...Glad to hear he was cleared though, and it is an unfortunite black eye on his career.

You're required to wear a little flag pin during military assemblies when the national anthem is played? And hold your hand over your heart? flag pin--not when not in a uniform, otherwise the uniform devices that are required for said uniform yes. As for holding hand over heart, again not while in uniform, then we salute (when covered) and yes, we are supposed to do that when in civilian attire as for what in my opinion defines a patriot is someone standing up for the constitution of the US (solely based on view of a US patriot...obviously other countries would be a bit different). It is what our country is supposed to represent, but i see us getting farther and farther away from that. Although, i know where this is going, as one man's patriot is another's terrorist (or insert whatever word you would like to for terrorist).
-
i see what you are saying, but i'd also find it hard to believe that a true patriot (whatever you want to define it as) would not display some level of patriotism...even in the small things. You can go on and fake patriotism and will be called out on it later...or you can show no respect for your country, it's colors, or it's anthem...which IMO then you are not a patriot. You can give strongly worded speeches, etc, but if you dont follow through with what you are saying, it is nothing but a show of fake patriotism...which again, you would be called out on. The multiple photographs and accounts of the current CIC, to me, displays an utter lack of patriotism for my/his country...not to mention my own dealings with him prior to election when he visited Iraq and displayed absolutely no respect for the troops that were over there, unless a camera (with a significant media label on it) happened to be around at the time.

although i'm gratefull that he was cleared, it is still "fuel for the fire" to the people we are fighting when we bring this to court. I'm not saying war crimes should not be investigated or tried in public, but i do believe that the sensitivity of the American govt/public toward hostiles and "kid gloves" placed on the Marines, soldiers, sailors, and airmen put us at a great disadvantage. Even when a service member is cleared, it is looked upon as a mock trial, and no doubt in my mind that this will incident will continue affect and haunt his carreer. It reminds me of a warlord (2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment..it was their callsign) who was tried and cleared, but still had to put in a request an unconditional resignation of his commission in the United States Marine Corps because his name and picture appeared frequently in the news media saiying how he "murdered innocent Iraqis" prior to his trial and aquittal

I dont believe I ever called the president a socialist. I did post part of an article that i found interesting, but if you can find where I called him a socialist please let me know and i'll go haze myself. Look at the first post, where i said, "dont agree with some of the extreems such as saying we are a socialist state" As far as being a sensitive service member, that's bullshit. I'm expected to do certain things during the playing of the National Anthem, pledge, etc, as dirrected to me by regulations written and enforced by "higher"....and it doesn't get any higher than the CIC. Why, then, should he not be expected to do the same??? You are implying that the "do as i say, not as i do" is a correct form of leadership.
-
the reason i posted this (yes i copied it) was becuause i found it interesting. Are some points moot? Yes. However, to you not wearing a flag pin on the lapel, or covering his heart during the national anthem may mean little, but as a service member it is an insult. This man is the Commander of all armed forces for the US. Not showing any sort of patriotism is a smack in the face to those of us who wish to. I take pride in this country (as i'm sure many of you do too), and i show it by doing the little things...the highest representitive of this country should do the same. I also agree that if/when the seats go to the republicans it will be more of the same (as it's been this way for decades), but to get a truely central party started and elected in this country is next to impossible, and i believe something needs to change.

I found this interesting...dont agree with some of the extreems such as saying we are a socialist state, but yea, figured i would share it: The Fundamental Transformation of America When Obama wrote a book and said he was mentored as a youth by Frank, (Frank Marshall Davis) an avowed Communist, people said it didn't matter. When it was discovered that his grandparents, were strong socialists, sent Obama's mother to a socialist school, introduced Frank Marshall Davis to young Obama, People said it didn't matter. When people found out that he was enrolled as a Muslim child in school and his father and step father were both Muslims, people said it didn't matter. When he wrote in another book he authored “I will stand with them (Muslims) should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” people said it didn't matter. When he admittedly, in his book, said he chose Marxist friends and professors in college, people said it didn't matter. When he traveled to Pakistan , after college on an unknown national passport, people said it didn't matter. When he sought the endorsement of the Marxist party in 1996 as he ran for the Illinois Senate, people said it doesn't matter. When he sat in a Chicago Church for twenty years and listened to a preacher spew hatred for America and preach black liberation theology, people said it didn't matter. When an independent Washington organization, that tracks senate voting records, gave him the distinctive title as the "most liberal senator", people said it didn't matter. When the Palestinians in Gaza , set up a fund raising telethon to raise money for his election campaign, people said it didn't matter. When his voting record supported gun control, people said it didn't matter. When he refused to disclose who donated money to his election campaign, as other candidates had done, people said it didn't matter. When he received endorsements from people like Louis Farrakhan and Mummar Kadaffi and Hugo Chavez, people said it didn't matter. When it was pointed out that he was a total, newcomer and had absolutely no experience at anything except community organizing, people said it didn't matter. When he chose friends and acquaintances such as Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn who were revolutionary radicals, people said it didn't matter. When his voting record in the Illinois senate and in the U.S. Senate came into question, people said it didn't matter. When he refused to wear a flag, lapel pin and did so only after a public outcry, people said it didn't matter. When people started treating him as a Messiah and children in schools were taught to sing his praises, people said it didn't matter. When he stood with his hands over his groin area for the playing of the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance, people said it didn't matter. When he surrounded himself in the White house with advisors who were pro gun control, pro abortion, pro homosexual marriage and wanting to curtail freedom of speech to silence the opposition people said it didn't matter. When he aired his views on abortion, homosexuality and a host of other issues, people said it didn't matter. When he said he favors sex education in Kindergarten, including homosexual indoctrination, people said it didn't matter. When his background was either scrubbed or hidden and nothing could be found about him, people said it didn't matter. When the place of his birth was called into question, and he refused to produce a birth certificate, people said it didn't matter. When he had an association in Chicago with Tony Rezco, a man of questionable character, who is now in prison and had helped Obama to a sweet deal on the purchase of his home, people said it didn't matter. When it became known that George Soros, a multi-billionaire Marxist, spent a ton of money to get him elected, people said it didn't matter. When he started appointing czars that were radicals, revolutionaries, and even avowed Marxist/Communist, people said it didn't matter. When he stood before the nation and told us that his intentions were to "fundamentally transform this nation" into something else, people said it didn't matter. When it became known that he had trained ACORN workers in Chicago and served as an attorney for ACORN, people said it didn't matter. When he appointed cabinet members and several advisors who were tax cheats and socialists, people said it didn't matter. When he appointed a science czar, John Holdren, who believes in forced abortions, mass sterilizations and seizing babies from teen mothers, people said it didn't matter. When he appointed Cass Sunstein as regulatory czar and he believes in "Explicit Consent", harvesting human organs with out family consent, and to allow animals to be represented in court, while banning all hunting, people said it didn't matter. When he appointed Kevin Jennings, a homosexual, and organizer of a group called gay, lesbian, straight, Education network, as safe school czar and it became known that he had a history of bad advice to teenagers, people said it didn't matter. When he appointed Mark Lloyd as diversity czar and he believed in curtailing free speech, taking from one and giving to another to spread the wealth and admires Hugo Chavez, people said it didn't matter. When Valerie Jarrett was selected as Obama's senior White House advisor and she is an avowed Socialist, people said it didn't matter. When Anita Dunn, White House Communications director said Mao Tse Tung was her favorite philosopher and the person she turned to most for inspiration, people said it didn't matter. When he appointed Carol Browner as global warming czar, and she is a well known socialist working on Cap and trade as the nations largest tax, people said it doesn't matter. When he appointed Van Jones, an ex-con and avowed Communist as green energy czar, who since had to resign when this was made known, people said it didn't matter. When Tom Daschle, Obama's pick for health and human services secretary could not be confirmed, because he was a tax cheat, people said it didn't matter. When as president of the United States ,he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, people said it didn't matter. When he traveled around the world criticizing America and never once talking of her greatness, people said it didn't matter. When his actions concerning the middle-east seemed to support the Palestinians over Israel , our long time friend, People said it doesn't matter. When he took American tax dollars to resettle thousands of Palestinians from Gaza to the United States, people said it doesn't matter. When he upset the Europeans by removing plans for a missile defense system against the Russians, People said it doesn't matter. When he played politics in Afghanistan by not sending troops the Field Commanders said we had to have to win, people said it didn't matter. When he started spending us into a debt that was so big we could not pay it off, people said it didn't matter. When he took a huge spending bill under the guise of stimulus and used it to pay off organizations, unions and individuals that got him elected, people said it didn't matter. When he took over insurance companies, car companies, banks, etc. people said it didn't matter. When he took away student loans from the banks and put it through the government, people said it didn't matter. When he designed plans to take over the health care system and put it under government control, people said it didn't matter. When he set into motion a plan to take over the control of all energy in the United States through Cap and Trade, people said it didn't matter. When he finally completed his transformation of America into a Socialist State ,people finally woke up........ but it was too late.
