  1. Out of interest, what makes you assume im the type to fish for names here so I can go out and jump from them? Where did that come from?
  2. Ok, so you think the purpose of this post is for "me" to discover "your" favourite site so "I" can jump from it and spoil it for "everyone". Dont worry thats not my intention. Before you get all wound up, take a deep breath and re-read. Im not asking anyone to name anything. Just asking asimple question. Are you also saying that the reason Im asking the questions I am, is because I dont know the difference between 2 US bridges? I dont see what your point is.
  3. I have read the thread and it is very informative. Im unfamiliar with the bridge but is there some reason why talking about it is less of a problem than say the landmark I lived next to a few years ago? People can still just turn up and jump off it without training. Why do you refer to it as "the Bridge Day site" in your post but by name on your profile? I dont mean to sound antagonistic. Just trying to get my head around it.
  4. I notice that your home DZ is a Bridge. Is it ok to name that because (presumably) its legal to jump from it?
  5. Just wondering what the actual problem with naming sites on here is. There are some objects/locations that seem so obvious that it would be irrelevant if somone named them. However, there was a post a while back where someone got flamed for posting a picture of a new structure in france as if no one had thought of it as a base site before. What about skydivingmovies? anyone local to the city/area where the jump is taking place could probably identify the site. I used to live in a suburb of Bristol called Clifton. Whilst there I noticed an object that may have been attractive to base jumpers. I think the authorities in the area are perfectly aware of its potential without having to read about it here. Im assuming that the concern is that authorities may increase security or that some idiot may die jumping from named objects/locations. At the same time though, im sure there must be another reason for the rule. Does the rule only apply to sites that are not well known? Im sure that I could mention A***l f***s right? Anyway, im not trying to piss anyone off, just curious.
  6. U.S.A.... U.S.A.... U.S.A....
  7. Do you think all men like all monkeys? What makes you think this?
  8. I work at one of the DZs on the list, ill mention this thread to our Rigger.
  9. 1) All aircraft are different so you'll need to familiarize yourself with each one individually. 2) Airspeed is critical when landing an aircraft. Know all relevant airspeeds for the aircraft. (stall, best glide etc..look them up.) If you've run out of fuel and you're unfamiliar with the type it can be very difficult to judge the appropriate landing pattern. If youre not even a pilot, make sure that youre spoilt for choice as far as landing areas go. If you need to land amongst obstacles you'll probably kill yourself. The odds of you ever needing to take the controls are minute. The odds of running out of fuel on the same flight even smaller, unless you yourself let it happen. As far as the differences between aircraft and landing them goes, If youre a competent pilot you should have no trouble getting it down in one piece even if you don't manage it with style. However, Ive flown with people who have hundreds of hours and still cant land for shit. To be honest, if you want to learn to fly then great....go and get a ppl. If youre only interested in case of emergencys, dont waste your money because Youre going to have to spend a hell of a lot of it if you want to have a hope of saving the day. How many jump planes have gone down because the pilot has lost consciousness anyway?
  10. Ive been given an appointment to have the metal in my leg taken out. I didnt ask for the operation, just recieved a letter one day saying I was booked in. The only trouble I get from the metalwork is when im in bed and my leg is resting on the screw heads. Apart from that, I dont really notice it. The consultant who put the metalwork in seemed to think that if my leg needed to break again, it would do so above the plate but the consultant who will be taking it out says that the metal could cause greater trauma if I were to brake my leg again. There must be a lot of people who have had to make this decision. What did you do and why?
  11. Thanks broke, its all set up! And thanks Rhonda maybe you can do me a favour some other time.
  12. Dont worry I took your signature seriously.
  13. It handles great thats for sure, but 30hp and a 0-60 time of over 10 seconds rule it out for almost everybody except those that cant afford insurance on bigger bikes (ie Kids.) Learner bike or not, its still way too tame for any serious rider.
  14. Are you talking about RS125s or RS250s? RS250s are sweet bikes thatll hold their own on track but RS125s are learner bikes that look like RS250s. If youre looking for a 2 stroke race rep, go for the 250 or the cheaper but equally rapid RGV250.
  15. Youre in love with her arent you...
  16. Its hard to explain but heres what i do. Im knealt on the first fold, one knee on each side of the lines so that bit is firm. I then scoop the rest up off the floor with my forearms. forearms where the next fold is going to be. Then I hold the material against my stomach with my left arm whilst i use my right arm to fold the top part back down. The top flap of material is the bit that gets out of control, so i usually fold the corners in. Ok somy left forearm is still in the fold and the rest is hanging over it. I use my right hand to tuck the right corner under and use my left hand to hold it there. Then i reach under the fold with my right hand and pull the left corner under. Im left with a triangular top fold. Press it into the material thats against the stomach, take the fore arm out and hold it all together with the left hand. Swap the knees for the right hand and fold the top bit down. If its falling apart again put a knee in the middle and then tuck the corners back in, otherwise keep your left hand on top and slide the right one under. I then press my chest on to the top of the canopy and lift it up between chest and right hand whilst pulling the bag under with my left. Put it on the bags flap then put a knee back on top. get 1 corner in then the other. I usuall get the top flap in the bag then stand it up, hold it between my knees and push the 1st flap in further. Thats probably a fairly worthless explanation but maybe theres something there you can use.
  17. Not that crazy then. I dont care if he wears one or not, I just think its stupid. Sorry.
  18. Its not just your own risk though. Depending on what kind of malfunctions may occur after 13, 15, 20 years. We may see spontaneous firings or who knows what. That kind of thing can bring a plane down if it happens at the wrong time. Also, if we dont allow AAD manufacturers to make profit, noones going to make them anymore. I think that the thread starter is not who he appears to be. This is a wind up.
  19. About 3 times as hard. But if you find packing old kit easy, then new stuff isnt that hard either. Its just a matter of controling that top fold as youre putting it in the bag.
  20. I think so. We do 2 s/l students on a pass and the bags both get brought in together after the second student has gone. Also, I believe that the instructor in the video was just trying to keep the student facing forwards as he exited. The tendancy is for some students to rotate as they exit. Different aircraft different procedures I guess I dont know Im not an instructor, but I am a DZ Pilot. I also enjoy watching s/l exit videos so have seen a lot. Which DZ did you train at?
  21. As far as I know, it is standard practice for instructors to dispatch s/l students in this way.
  22. Its not only large objects that attract. Everything attracts everything else. Its just that huge objects like the earth dont move as much toward you as you do towards it. Infact its not the earths gravity that pulls you down, its the sum of the gravity of every atom that makes up the earth pulling on each atom in your body and vice versa. Gravity is a very weak force as far as forces in the universe go so it takes something big to make it noticable.
