You pay your money and you take your chances...
MooChooser replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
I agree. Whilst I believe that setting your brakes, cocking the pilot chute and opening up the slider is not a bad idea, these things are aspects of a pack job that no packer should be forgetting. If he was tired, he should have stopped taking pack jobs, end of story. -
Yeah, I guess i'll do that. Cheers.

I flew a 182 for a vegas DZ for a while and would see anything from 1500 to -200 fpm on the vsi depending on the day. We almost always had 2 tandems on board. We would go to 11000 msl for tandems and 13000 for AFF and on some days, the only way up was in the updraughts along ridges. The hobbs would read anything from 0.3 to 0.7 from start up to shut down for 1 lift.

Winter jumping -- Ski gloves okayed -- Possible dangers?
MooChooser replied to mdrejhon's topic in Safety and Training
I use these gloves...theyre called Oakley pipe gloves and are designed for cold weather but are quite tight and have grippy palms/fingers. They are obviously bulkier than summer gloves but still allow a good level of "feel" http://www.backcountry.com/store/OAK0722/large/c11/s100000008/Oakley-Pipe-Glove.html -
I have a packing certificate, but it only has tandem and student rigs on it. I was under the impression that in order to pack your own rig it just has to be your own rig. I guess I must be breaking the rules.

Plates and screws: Leave them in or get them out?
MooChooser replied to MooChooser's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, I had it all out on the 15th and im pretty much back to normal now. The stitches are coming out on tuesday, then I guess thats that. Cheers. -
www.dumbwarnings.com Apparently on a rowenta iron: Do not Iron clothes on body. On a kiddies superman costume: Warning..does not enable wearer to fly.

www.pornolize.com Simply type the address of your favourite website into the bar at the top of the screen. Edit: incase its not obvious, you'll need to select "english" in the other window. I used this to make a DZO I used to work for think his website had been hacked. The following 10 minutes were the amongst funniest of my life. Caution: there are some other links on the page which may be considered NSFW.

Question about BPA jump numbers in 2005?
MooChooser replied to Adriandavies's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
5070 members divided by 22 DZs in britain comes to about 250 jumpers per DZ. I think that if you find the average number of regulars per DZ it will be way lower than 250. -
How do you feel about pregnant women smoking?
MooChooser replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Maybe so. But the child’s body is not her body. The child is a separate being all together. actually not for QUITE some time in the pregnancy.. until then it is simply a lump of dying cells without its host... but dont let the basic biological facts interfere with your "some of that was my sperm! damnit!" rant its very entertaining... you are completely mistaken about your role in the reproductive processes but entertaining non the less.... I think the fact that the foetus is unable to think/survive on its own is irrelevant. As for the "its my sperm! damnit!" rant, I didnt notice it. I think Rhino is argueing the babys case not the fathers. -
Why would you want to stop others posting?

Probably not what youre thinking. www.worldjumpday.org In my opinion, theyre jumping on the wrong side of the planet...we need to move this thing CLOSER to the sun.

Id have to agree with that. Thru just seems to make a lot more sense to me than through. Why do we need the extra letters?

How do you feel about pregnant women smoking?
MooChooser replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Wow My thought exactly. rl If I had a wife and she was pregnant I would be extremely pissed if I discovered she was still smoking. You guys express shock at that statement as if its an "I'm the man and my wife obeys" kind of thing. I think in this situation a father to be has the right to make certain demands. Sexual equality has nothing to do with it. When a woman is pregnant I believe she has new responsibilities which render her "need" for a cigarette irrelevant. Any way you look at it, a pregnant woman who lights up a cigarette is making a choice, and in my opinion shes making the wrong one. For the record, I think fathers should quit when their wives get pregnant also, especially if the wife is a smoker too. Edit: Im an idiot, I thought the quote said "smoke" not "skydive" -
Ive tried pretty much everyting on the menu and dont have a true favourite. One think im sure of though is that sea urchin is a joke, put on the menu by comedien chefs so that they can laugh at those who sit there pretending to enjoy it. That shit is seriously hard to keep down.

May as well have just flushed it down the toilet.

I recently bought my first rig. The canopy is a silhouette 170 and with me its loaded at about 1.1. PDs description of the canopy is this: One of the camera guys I work with loves to slag this canopy off saying stuff like "its for girls" or "its for people who cant pack" I personally havent had experience with a lot of different canopies, the entire list is PD340, Manta 280, PD210, Spectre 190 and then Silhouette 170. I have never jumped another 170 to compare it to. What exactly do PD mean when they say it has better handling characteristics than other traditional 9 cells? Are they talking about canopies like sabre2 170s or like PD170s or all of them? How would you describe the Silhouette?

Dont worry though, I've heard that the pilots at Chatteris are the best of the best.

You dont have to worry about your shirt coming out of the pants if you modify a shirt. You could sew it onto a pair of shorts and just wear the pants over the top. It just means that you need to have a skydiving specific top layer.

MooChooser replied to Newbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Pregnant women who smoke obviously dont give a shit. The kid will be disadvantaged in more ways than one. -
I just had mine taken out on wednesday. I did have a plate and 6 screws in the fib and 2 big screws in the tib (or is it the other way around?) I hope it was worth it.

As I said , I had read the post, including the passage you have quoted. I was under the impression that jumping was only legal for a week or weekend each year or something like that. If there's regular jumping taking place on a daily basis throuought the year, then obviously thats a different matter. Thanks for explaining.

It was a joke.

Well if you'd just said that in the first place, we could've left it at that and avoided all of the "unpleasantness" Im going to assume that its better to piss you guys off by asking questions than to assume that the S in my back yard is something I can talk about because its in my back yard.

Mate, im taking in the info, I respect the opinions of those with more experience than me....which is everyone, and im just trying to learn something ok? I guess when the time comes I'll know where to seek advice.
