yeah, i really, really miss monroe. not only was it a warm, welcoming place, it was very close to my house! luckily, most of us are still around. we also have little reunion dinners once every few months. we had one in july and another in november. maybe we will see you at the next one. Here is what I did, it may or may not be helpful to you. When my daughter was 12, i got her a Virgin Mobile prepaid phone. I would add $20.00 to it when it was time to add $$, however if her attitude, chores or grades weren't up to par - I wouldn't add $$ until they were. She was given the instruction that her friends are not to call her phone, nor was she to call her friends - we have other phones for that. She has done a great job and now, 3 years later, she has asked for a non-prepaid phone. She will turn 15 in 2 weeks and I will get her a Metro PCS phone. She can sit & talk on that thing all day if she wishes - there are no minutes or contracts. If she gets in trouble - I simply don't pay for the next months service. No penalties, no catch. I personally don't think she needs it, except when she is away from home, but it's either the "regular" cell phone or a MySpace page and hell will freeze over before I let her have a page on that site. I am thankful to have the opportunity to wake up everyday. Some of you know me and will understand why I say this. Just being here, to me, is the most precious thing in the world, everything else is icing on the cake. unfortunately, i see that very treatment of children on a regular basis and i am embarrased to say that it is a member of my family. due to the lack of nurturing and tons of cussing and name calling, none of her 3 kids are doing worth a damn in school or home life for that matter. her oldest (17) is spoiled & disrespectful, not to mention lazy & conceited - however has managed to hang on to her virginity (verified by the Dr.). her middle child (15) has already been through a bout with meth, has had sex and smokes pot on a daily basis (and yes, her mother does know and figures "if that's the worst thing she does, then i can live with it") and is currently repeating the 6th grade (should be in 10th) for the 3rd time. her youngest and only boy (10) is a freaking nightmare!!! he swears, vandalizes, has failed kindergarden & 1st grade and is about to fail the 2nd grade (yes, he should be in 4th), he can't read because his mother won't cut her fun short to help him. there is so much more that i can't even begin to list the problems that i witness. yes, i and other family members have said things to her about it, but the excuses that she spits out could drowned a person. you're right, some people shouldn't be allowed to breed. but sadly they do. what shocks me more than her treatment of her children is the fact that her own parents witness this behavior and yet they remain silent. (all of these people live in the same house) they do nothing to try to help their grandchildren get a leg up in life, instead they enable, turn the blind eye & the deaf ear to all that they see & hear. i, however, don't go around there to much anymore. i just can't see all of this and keep my mouth shut. i have started some knock down, drag out fights with my family over the treatment of these 3 kids.......... it's just wrong, it's mental & emotional abuse. however, across the board, i'm told to mind my business, they're not my kids. They're right, they aren't my kids. I would never disrespect or mistreat my children and therefore they are well behaved, smart, respectful and on their way to making a good life for themselves. there are times as a mom that i don't feel like i'm doing a good job, however, when i think about them, i know i'm doing a great job. the difference in our children is as night is to day and black is to white. my kids are my air and without them i can't breathe. when they hurt, i hurt. when they are happy, i am happy. i wish she felt that way about her kids. I'm not afraid of the tattoo needle, however, I hate ALL other needles. I've had HUNDREDS (migrains, cancer & allergies) of shots in the past 6+ yrs and they still scare the absolute begeezus outta me. Don't like 'em, cry like a little baby everytime. My Dad is a hypnotherapist (among many other things). Years ago he hypnotized me. I wanted a glass of water instead of a cig............. it lasted about 3 days.
