  1. If you have a pea gravel pit - use it, that way that first load can see your body outlines in it. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  2. geronimo is Jan Meyer, a national director and a member of the safety and training committee. If Geronimo is Jan Meyer, why not fill out the profile. Something doesn't sound right here. Why Africa? No jump numbers, nothing. I don't take into consideration anyone's opinion that can't/won't fill out a profile. 3. I like it alot. When will they be available? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  4. I was just curious if anyone heard anything else on the missing cessna in Canada? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  5. The best part about jumping in Minnesota in the summer is the sunsets around 9:00-9:30. We often had to call the liquor store to see if they would stay open just a little bit longer so we could make that sunset load. 6. I grew up in Cambridge. Small town east of St. Cloud and Zimmerman. Spent alot of time in St. Cloud. Skydive Hutchinson is the closest DZ to St. Cloud.
  7. Where in Minnesota are you going to be? Skydive Twin Cities is in Baldwin, WI located about 40 miles east of Minneapolis. Skydive Hutchinson is West of the cities. Both have good people and good facilities. I'm jealous, I need to go home. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  8. Here are all the variables that I could think of to come up with some way to BSR wingloading. 1. Jump number 2. Number of jumps in last 3mo, 6mo, 9mo, 12mo (lets face it, someone with 250 jumps over 1 year is probably more able of flying a smaller canopy than someone with 500 jumps over 10 years.) 3. DZ elevations - every dz would have to have a different wingloading chart. (my canopy flys alot faster at Perris than it does at my home dz.) 3a. Different elevations at different dzs will restrict where you can jump because of your canopy size unless you buy a canopy for every dz you are going to jump at. 4. Who is going to be responsible for figuring out on EVERY canopy out there, what the appropriate wingloading at every elevation and appropriate jump number to go with it. 5. MONEY - if we are going to educate skydivers someone wants to get paid, maybe not at every dropzone but at most. With the implementation of ISP the cost of learning to skydive is already twice what I paid, and now we want to REQUIRE a canopy class. I don't like seeing people hurt themselves, even when its do to stupidity. Stupid people shouldn't skydive and I guess these twin bed sheets people are insisting on flying will start to weed out the really stupid and eventually we won't have to worry about it anymore. This sounds cold and insensative but that's my point of view. There are no OLD and BOLD skydivers, and I don't expect there ever will be. 9. Go look for it. Its more than likely not going to come looking for you. There is a book "Who moved my Cheese". Easy reading and helpful. Good Luck! p.s. I saw this on one of the many churche on the way to the drop zone, and I'm not sure how to take it. Is what is worth living for worth dying for? Anxiety

I make closing loops sometimes when my anxiety level is a little high. I ususally end up with around a hundred of them or so, then I measured them all and sorted them by size. It keeps me distracted from what's really causing the anxiety. I was on Effexor for about 6 weeks after we were told my dad had cancer. I can't drink when I'm that overwelmed because it will just make me throw up. It works, but you have to take it every day. It has some icky side effects also. I won't take it again unless my choices are that or the nut house. I would go to the tanning bed, because the heat helped me to relax. Hot bath or hot tub will help relax. good luck! 12. Oh not at all. Everyone has there opinion, and they just don't realize I'm always right (much sarcasium) Since I have had all this time at work today to read more of these threads, try to put myself in others "shoes" and have concluded that I am just happy that we have all these different training methods so more people can experience a skydive. Whether it be a tandem, AFF, IAD (if anyone still does that), Static Line, or whatever. Everyone's common goal is safety. IMO, all have proven to be adequate training methods. Every student is different and one way may be better than another for each student. I'm just being bitchy and opinionated today. Sorry if I may have come off confrontational. edited to delet babbling Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  13. You are not and were not being an ass. I'm just on a girl power kick. Don't know why. Too much time on my hand doing nothing at work but crusing dz.com, I guess. Combining a few static line jumps with AFF sounds like a good idea to me. Blue Skies and Soft Landings Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  14. There is no way around it if you want to keep skydiving. You can always wear ear plugs to stop hearing the screams, or turn your back on the body bag, but unfortunately, I haven't found a way around it. The first few times it can be really upsetting, after that, you just get numb. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

  16. Devils advocate here - It doesn't matter if they can fly a canopy if they don't pull, and are not altitude aware or can even get into the proper body position to pull without causing a mal function. AFF actually teaches you how to skydive. If all you ever want to do is fly your canopy, then I would suggest doing static line and nothing else. Deuce - she a girl. Girl's listen and follow directions better than some of those macho men who already know it all. Girl's seem to understand what's really at stake here. Their life. Judy p.s. I am not a man hater, just feeling a little aggressive today. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  17. Chris, you need to change the name of the boogie to Hey ya'll watch this boogie. Weather should be good this weekend. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  18. I have to disagree with you on static line. It teaches you how to fly the canopy but when you start your delays, you are on your own. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  19. Didn't they go get that airplane in the middle of the night at Cullman last weekend. Doesn't it take more than a few days to paint a King Air. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  20. If they did something stupid, yeah, it will piss me off. I don't care if they have 10,000 jumps - then it will really piss me off because they definately should know better. When I have jumped with people who do stupid shit, I tell them that when they get hurt for doing stupid shit, where you land is where you lie. I suggest you jump with a cell phone so you can call 911 yourself. The problem with attaching a jump number to a wingloading is some people have 500 jumps in 1 year and some have 500 jumps in 15 years. Not every landing injury is the "canopy pilots" fault. Funky winds come out of no where and we can't see them, but when you seem someone jumping something too small and frap in, I don't feel sorry for them one bit. As far as restrictions and trying to make this a BSR, I would love to see it, but there are too many variables to make it happen. Canopies fly differently at different elevations. Everyone I know that has flown a Nitron said it flys big. The DZO, S&TA, and instructors and just going to have to ground the dumbasses of the world. Yeah the DZO is going to lose a little business, but you lose alot more money with lawsuits and dead skydivers. I've always looked at the Darwin award winners as natural selection. I love my skydiving family and I don't want to see ANYONE get hurt or die. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  21. Look at the thread in this forum under Wingload BSR. Good Luck! Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  22. I'm willing to try just about anything to keep people uninjured, whether it be video, threat of bodily harm, or whatever. This is going to sound very selfish but tough shit, it's not fair to the rest of us who want to keep jumping when someone who knows better goes out and jumps something beyond their experience, gets hurt and now we have to shut down for a while so the helicopter can land and take them away. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  23. I think before anyone downsizes they have to watch a video. "Down Sizing Gone Bad", also to include "Hook Turns Gone Bad". I think when ANY jumper decides to downsize, and or try hook turns, they have to watch the video, blood, guts, bones, and all. There has to be enough video out there of bad incidents that can be complied. It sucks to see that stuff but that's reality and sometimes just hearing about people's mistakes aren't enough, you need to see them. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  24. I worry about my husband sometimes, especially when he does tandems. I don't tell him I worry but I do. He came to Perris with me last October for JFTC. I could tell he wanted to pull me off the airplane and tell me NO, but he didn't. I don't think I ever saw him worry so much when I have jumped before. We've been together 5 years now and I really didn't start to really worry until he started doing tandems. We both do AFF, and that doesn't bother me. and no you are not horrible person. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  25. I have never heard of that. It's recommended to open high to play around with it but I've never heard about doing hop n packs to "break it in". Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
