I disagree. From talking to customers, and watching their reactions I think most of them are way more impressed with a gentle tandem landing then they are by swoopers. In fact many get concerned when they see some one pull a real fast swoop... "we won't have to land like that will we!!!" Ditto. Heard that many times, In fact, a few were ready to bail on their tandems after seeing a swooper come in fast. We had one fast flying canopy pilot (trying to be pc) crash and burn a whole company left that was out there to do tandems and have a picnic. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I talk to them too. I explain what they are doing is unsafe, but then again most that are doing it don't have that many jumps and was either not told or forgot this information. I was just trying to understand marks posts about its not the "real" swoopers that are causing problems. Again, you want a quick fix - ban swooping and stupidly small canopies. There is your fix even though I know it won't save everyone since I've seen someone die under a 200+ canopy. Again, I don't think most want banning this and that. I don't hate swoopers, some are actually nice safe people and I hope they live a long time. I didn't start the "real" swooper "fake" swooper thing. Maybe all the "real" swoopers should have a little sit down/smack down with the "non-real" swoopers to stop giving the "real" swoopers a bad name. Personally, that's kind of what I'm looking for from the the "real" swoopers that claim that their "real" swooper group is not the problem. IMO a little more self-policing from the swooping community is needed. Banning swooping and/or certain wingloadings is a quick fix that, if enforced, should show a huge decrease in injuries and fatilities, but I don't think even the swooper haters even want that. A carolina wren built and nest and laid eggs in a box of junk on a shelf in my garage. Our garage in enclosed so I opened a window for it to come and go. Everything had been going fine for the last week and a half til my cat discovered the garage guest. Bird is fine. My cat doesn't usually kill stuff - she brings whatever in the house alive and lets it go. The cat did catch the wren flying from the box to the window (we are assuming) at 4:30 a.m. and brought the bird in the house. The wren is fine - flew back out to the nest. Yesterday we moved the shelving the box is on (its on wheels) next to the open window to give it a better chance staying away from the cat and we tried to cover the box to move mom with the nest but she flew out before we got it covered. Will the mother wren be able to find the nest again? It simply got moved from one side of the garage to the other. No it wasn't an exaggeration. To stop the Phelps from doing this, I am willing to give up my right to protest funerals. I"ve hated these people for so long. This is the first time I've been able to watch/read anything about them and laugh. I worked with a guy who went absolutely nuts when they come out with news stories linking humans with apes and monkeys. This is the same guy that won't vaccinate his children because he considers himself a good christian. He is very ignorant and imature spiritually. I consider you lucky to have had any cuddle time with your cat. My cat acts like she hate me and my husband and SHE moved in with us. You've never come across the wrong way. You have always answered any questions I've asked you very respectfully and intelligently. Is what Scott Miller teaches a secret? Why can't it be shared for free with the rest of the community without having to pay to take a canopy class, if, in fact, it is a better way to teach basic canopy skills and will keep people safe(r). I understand having to pay for advanced coaching, but if we are teaching old school myths, and they are wrong, or there is a better way, why isn't the "better way" public knowledge. That's good to know. I guess I assumed that the majority of the canopy classes/coaching is geared to swooping because its alway brought up when there is a hookturn/swooping incident. and on a side note, neither you, I or Marks mention anything about guns and 270's being related (at least not in our conversations) so I don't know why we got put in SC. You keep mentioning canopy classes. I have managed to make it over 10 years in the sport without injuring myself or anyone else and I have never taken a canopy class. I have nothing against canopy classes if one chooses to pursue swooping or doesn't quite "get it" after being "let go" to self supervise. If they really sux as a newbie under canopy they should have never been cleared to self supervise. Believe it or not, some people and I know I am not alone, some of use have no desire to fly stupidly small canopies or do hook turns. I'm in it for the freefall. I know how to fly a pattern. The same pattern I was taught in my first jump course. And so far have managed to land safely. What's wrong with the canopy skills/pattern we are taught during our student training? I don't know how many times I've heard from swoopers "I can't land my canopy without hooking it"? I stare at them in disbelief that they are that bad of a canopy pilot they can't land straight in safely. If the canopy requires a hook turn to land, there is something definately wrong with the canopy (or pilot), and should not jump or be jumped. So you think everyone wants to learn to swoop? Well, they don't. I can guarantee it 100%. Students can pay for whatever kinda coach they want in what ever discipline they choose to pursue. And if they choose RW, they can jump with me for free. You don't have to swoop or do BIG turns to be a AFFI or TM. I don't and I have no desire to. I prefer to be an instructior that doesn't have to tell their students "do as I say, not as I do" like all the AFFI's that HAVE to swoop or feel they are entitled on every jump.
