anybody know where to buy a decent set of cheap risers other than the standard skydive shops? I don't want to spring 150 plus shipping plus tax. and am sure there might be a rigger that makes them for cheaper than the big box skydiving stores.
-
I was looking at one also a while back. Ive never jumped one read mostly good reviews about how they fly. I did not buy one because of the horrible reputation concerning replacement parts not being available. I do not want to have to fight for linesets or repairs if something is wrong when I get it.

How much "easy" rigging do you do on your own rig?

All of the things mentioned I would do to my rig. I would probably do more than most. if you have questions ask a rigger, but you should be able to change your own main at minimum. Brian germain has a few videos about some basic gear maintenance I would start there. he usually has posts in the classified sections under video on this forum. -
I have a mirage and wish I would have gone with UPT. mirage is harder to work with both in stuffing canopy into the bag and keeping the lineset strait. it has pockets on the sides you are supposed to stuff the line groups into and it always becomes a mess. If I come across a UPT reasonable I will probably buy it. otherwise I love my Mirage

So I have an opportunity to jump an old military rig with paracommander/round reserve. having never jumped a round I was a little concerned about using the cutaway systems. specifically would it be better to cutaway and deploy reserve or deploy reserve then cutaway. I have heard stories about singe riser release problems. obviously I will be talking with someone about the jump before it happens but I was interested in any tips/pearls the "old timers" have about these systems.

Dynamics of canopy opening vs packing techniques
medic0079 replied to grue's topic in Gear and Rigging
Best way to learn what packing does to your canopy is to practice. it wont take many jumps to know how things like rolling the nose, or not rolling the nose affects the opening. I learned a lot about packing jumping my Sabre 1. If you don't pack it right you will know it. Here is how I have been packing it most recently. I made the video for someone asking about wolmari packing. @ about 3:09 you can see me roll the crap out of the nose and push it into the packjob. If I didn't do this the canopy comes out with a bang. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmwYrsraqwk -
HAHAHAHA its like half a parachute :)

What is a partially fly away brake line?
-
Para Flite, the manufacturer of the Swift reserve, can do an airworthiness and porosity inspection Id start there before I used it. I don't know if you can find a rigger to pack it for you or not. I'm sure one of the older ones have seen/dealt with them and they certainly will be a better resource than me. You can use the search function I'm sure there is more information somewhere on this board. Is there a reason you want to use it? you can pick up a used nice reserve for not that much & seems to me the reserve is not the place to skimp on money if that is the reason.

Two thing I learned about cooking pizza. A. most people use a stone the wrong way. I.E. you need to cook at a high temp and preheat the stone for at least an hour. B. pizzas cooked on the grill are far superior to pizzas cooked in the oven

What kind of container do you jump? You might look at my post in the wolmari thread

I have a fully stowless magnetic bag that I was planning on using for my rig but the bag is to small for my 150 & will not stay shut properly. My understanding is that the reason behind the locking stows is that the possibility of canopy deployment before line stretch causing a catastrophically hard opening is reduced. I'm going to sell the all mag bag and already ordered a mirage semi stowless for my g4

Mirage G4 M3 with Optimum 176 & Firebolt 182?
medic0079 replied to guilhermevh's topic in Gear and Rigging
I assume that's the same jumpsack that makes racer. They are a very reputable company. That being said idk if that chart is something that was provided to them by the canopy mfg or if they did their own research. It should be close either way. I think you will be just fine if not downsize. You should be jumping a 150 anyway. Kidding of course. -
Mirage G4 M3 with Optimum 176 & Firebolt 182?
medic0079 replied to guilhermevh's topic in Gear and Rigging
So find something that they have that has s similar pack volume I.e. triathlon 170 -
I usually just keep pulling on the bridal to keep it out and free I roll the excess material into the upper fold. I kept the initial s fold a little too long on the pack job in the video and usually have more material on the top but every pack job is different and that's how this one worked out. I usually keep pulling the bridal so that it had some room in the bag though. I just got this container so it's the first few pack jobs on it. This bag is split. I ordered a stowless for it. I hate the split bag.
