When I had my learners permit at the age of 15, my father let me behind the wheel with the whole family inside the car. I still remember how proud I was to finally be driving. I was passing a car that contained a client of my father that he had just spoken to. I thought I would be cool and do what I’d seen other people do. I had one hand on the wheel and glanced over to smile broadly at the client as I passed. I'm not sure that's the same thing... its a different thing entirely... for the married/taken people to do a kiss pass on a single gal... but an entirely different thing for a potentially perceived "horny, undesired, single guy" to do the same thing... at least in my opinion... of course I'm weird... Well, that's why I asked this question: "Does anyone know how and when this tradition started?" The way it was explained to me was that is was a sort of congratulatory thing. It didn't matter who the kisser or kissee were. Could be male/male or female/female. And yes, I was glad that it had been explained to me before it ever happened. I'm gonna go with that like jt said... the women that I have had the opportunity to jump with were either not interested in me, dating someone else, or otherwise unavailable... All of the men who gave me kiss passes were either married or had girlfriends. I knew they weren't asking me to go to their trailer with them when they gave me the kiss pass. It's my impression that it's a tradition and nothing more. So pucker up and go kiss a newbie. It's not perverted. I received my first kiss pass from Kevin Gibson on my check dive. Since then I gotten them from Rob Lowe, Scary Perry and Scottie Carbone. It occurred to me that each of these men have well over a decade of experience and thousands of jumps each. Are kiss passes out of vogue now? Does anyone know how and when this tradition started?
