  1. I do not have the big one but I bought the smaller size pictured further down the page to use as a jumpsuit and accessories bag. I've had it for a while and the quality is good and its gotten a few curious looks but there are other bags out there with more pockets and functionality. I don't remember if that is the same seller but I got mine fairly quickly.
  2. I will try to stir up some interest among the Virginia Tech jumpers. It will be hard for us because we do not have that Monday off for the holiday, its a 12 hour drive each way and it comes just a few weeks after collegiate nationals where we will all do a ton of jumps. But I remember everyone talking about it at Dublin last year and wishing I would have been there so I am going to TRY to make it happen. Are you putting school names on the T-shirts again? And I sure could use some Florida weather in the middle of January!
  3. I ordered my majik style comp suit mainly because I wanted the large pleated booties but I am very pleased with its other features as well. I could notice a significant difference in my track with these booties vs. my old suit with regular booties. I got the biggest arm and leg grips offered and my team mates and I all like them. I also got it with a loose fit and polycotton arms to help slow my fall rate, and this also makes it very comfortable to wear. You can ask for the "dive rite" style sides made of spandex and get a continuous swoop cord put it it too if you need more help slowing down. I only use those for diving after a formation, not turning points on a 4-way. I recommend the high zippers on the legs, its a hassle to take your shoes on/ off after every jump to get out of the thing. Other essential options are inside leg grips and spandex pockets in the arm grips. All this adds up to a very expensive suit but I think it will last a long time. I have not taken it to the wind tunnel yet but I suspect it would do fine in there.
  4. Isn't it the same stuff that the cords to pay telephone booth receivers are made of Maybe an electronics supply store would have it? Or did someone fool me with a clever story?
  5. I called and the original rigger that packed it just moved to Costa Rica I got a PM from an airtec rep that said they will make it right
  6. Ya know, I saw that deal too and thought the price was way too good to be true, so I didn't respond. He was a little smoother than some other scammers but I knew it would come out.
  7. Update: It turns out I simply got a defective cypress battery. It was stamped 5/07 and died 11/07. It sure is disappointing to have to buy two cypress batteries in 6 months, plus the associated reserve repacks, this sure has cost me a lot of money But I will be contacting SSK and seeing what they say about the defective battery, I sure hope I can get some money back My rigger pulled out the old battery, put it back in and still got nothing. He put a new battery in and it worked fine.
  8. So I arrive at the DZ yesterday and go to get ready and I try to turn on my cypress. (Cypress I, 6 years old, batteries replaced 4 months ago) It won't turn on. It does the 4 red flashes like normal, then instead of counting down it flashes 0 for a brief second then it turns off. I try a few more times, with a minute or so between each attempt, and still nothing. I call my rigger over to take a look and he gets the same results. I find a cypress manual and read through the revelant sections, and it does not mention this problem. It talks of error codes and such but does not mention what to do if it simply flashes 0 then turns off. So I decide to just go ahead and jump it without the cypress turned on for the day, but it went home with my rigger last night. He is going to pop the reserve and pull out the cypess. He said he will check if maybe the wires are loose, or it could be a battery issue, but like I mentioned, the battery was replaced at the 6 year mark last summer. He said maybe if he takes out the battery and puts it back in, it might "reset" itself and start working properly again. Thats about all I got, if he cannot get it working its going back to SSK to be checked out. I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who had a similar problem with theirs and what the solution was. I will post the results from my rigger or SSK here when I get it back.
  9. Today I was wearing a skyventure shirt and a whuffo commented: "Indoor skydiving, huh? That must be a really huge building!" Ya, he was joking and knew what the wind tunnel is but I still thought it was funny.
  10. Wow, mine is made of some misc medal that looks like some kind of steel and I can't imagine how much force it would take to bend it. I think a brand new closing loop would break first. Anyway, titanium sure seams like an expensive material to make a simple tool out of.
  11. My university skydiving club got an incredible deal on a new container from infinity but we got a great price because we ordered two identical colored (but different sized) harness/ container systems. PM me for details.
  12. Thanks, I had a feeling it was out of print. I know there are several sights where you can print the 4-way divepool but I want to get something that has jumps for odd ways like 5, 7, etc ways that don't suck and get repetitive like the ones I always find myself on. If anyone knows of any books that have something like this in it, please let me know.
  13. I am looking to buy a copy of a book that I found laying around a dropzone that I was visiting last weekend. I looked at it for a while but was unable to track down the owner to find out where he got it. The book was called "Blocking Together" and it contained all(?) of the block moves for everything from 2- 20 ways. There was also another book that had all the random moves, I believe it might have been called "Flying Together" or something similar. It was a yellow covered book with spiral binding, if that helps. It looked like an older book so it might be out of print but if someone could show me where I could find one, I would be very grateful. I have already tried paragear and other major online stores without any luck. Thanks!
  14. I want to understand a similar concept about linedump/ bagstrip. I would think that if your locking stows are tight enough, it really would not matter much if the other stows are slightly looser because the slack in the lines would be taken out before the locking stows release. So, even if the other stows release prematurely, as long as the locking stows are tight, you should still have a fairly normal opening (assuming everything else is in order). Comments?
  15. To the OP: roll the nose 2 turns on each side instead of 4. I have a sabre1 190 that also sometimes takes a while to open and that helps.
  16. I tried to see if he would buy my old reserve about two months ago when I bought a new one from him, but he said he would not because he was in the process of getting out of the business. He was only doing selling at the time, he had stopped buying.
  17. Yes, VT does have a skydiving club and we are awesome! http://www.skydiveVT.com Go Hokies!
  18. Where's option 4: My TM did not make any freefall gestures or "antics" and just sat there and let me enjoy freefall for the first time
  19. Insert typical dz.com quip here: Make sure you are taking into account EXIT weight, not just your body weight when calculating wing loading. Sorry, I couldn't help it. Now back to lurking.
  20. Can you upload a scanned copy for those of us who do not have a para-gear catalogue?
  21. I think that the intro to the movie "idiocracy" is somewhat relevant to this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAYnc_-ddlw Basically, the movie is set in the future and the dumbest people of society have reproduced in far great numbers than the average person and... well go rent it, its somewhat mind numbingly stupid but also a good laugh.
  22. I spent three summer months jumping at Mile Hi and I was not impressed. They have tons of airpower to get you up there, but they still always seemed to have a long wait at manifest on the weekends. Forget getting on a load quickly if you are there the on the same weekend as the air force cadets, they manifest in advance for the whole day. The otter is nice, and it runs all day but they often did not bring the king air out even when the otter was backed up for 2+ hours. I saw the king air run three times out of the 12 or more weekends that I was there. The trailer ride to the boarding area is bumpy and dusty, but I understand that is mostly out of the managements control for now. One good point is that the landing area is huge and the pilots consistently gave good spots for the entire load. The tandem instructors seemed unhappy to be doing their job. It was a hot summer, so I can understand being tired. I can't count how many times I saw a TI get a students name then hardly even talk to them until it was time to hook up on jump run. 80- 100 tandems per day is the norm for weekends and they don't have the staff numbers to give them the attention they deserve for a truly memorable experience. I would consider it a tandem mill. The fun jumpers, in general, are clicky and unwilling to jump with unfamiliar people. There seems to be no "help each other out" spirit. There is no good, upbeat vibes like I have gotten at other dropzones. If you show up looking to do RW, especially smaller jumps, prepare to be disapointed. This DZ is almost entirely free fliers. I wish I could say more good things about this DZ, because with the right atmosphere it could have been one of the country's best. One thing that could be done to improve the vibes is to get a load organizer for all disciplines and skill levels. There were always several new license holders and low timers sitting around for a big part of the day because there was no one to show them what was next or provide any sort of mentoring.
