36 jumps and still a student? How many does it take to get the first license in Canada?

Seems unlikely to me, but you never know what technology would come up with... Think what an accidental activation inside the plane would look like

Perfect tunnel? Simple: looks just like the paraclete tunnel, but runs off some different energy source that is super efficient and costs about $200/ hr to operate. (thats cost to the customer, not the expenses to the owner.

OK, maybe I am not understanding this right. It seems to me that the entire concept of internal pressurization conflicts with the idea of skydiving as we know it. So you have a rig on your back. The canopy is not infalted because, well its packed in your rig. In order for that canopy to become inflated, air must be added from the outside. Unless you had some kind of gas reaction that caused gases to inflate your canopy from the inside (huh?), then you must inflate it with outside air. All those wing things shown and linked lack the ability to be deployed from terminal.

Getting tax exempt status for my skydiving club
VTmotoMike08 replied to VTmotoMike08's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Damn, this whole thing looks like its gonna be a lot more trouble than I was anticipating. I might just change our status with paypal and pay the fees for a regular business. Thanks for all the responses so far. -

Getting tax exempt status for my skydiving club
VTmotoMike08 replied to VTmotoMike08's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So, I operate a college skydiving club at Virginia Tech. We are non-profit in the sense that the club does not put money into anyone’s pocket, but we do have a bank account that we use for operating expenses. All money is put back into the club in the form of gear purchases, advertising, *cough* parties, gear maintenance, etc. One source of revenue is the few dollars that we get every time we refer a student tandem jump to the dropzone. I want to setup a paypal account so that we can collect tandem deposits online by accepting credit cards. We are not a business, and the closest thing that paypal had to describe us was “non-profit organization”. But in order to fully setup the account, we need to provide proof of tax exempt status. Huh? To the best of my knowledge, the IRS does not know that we exist and I would kinda like to keep it that way. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Anyone have an idea what documentation they are looking for? It says they need “Evidence of tax exempt status or registration with any regulatory bodies”. It can be uploaded via the web or faxed in. No more information is available from paypal. I would ask paypal what they mean but I am afraid that if I open my mouth too much we could lose our non-profit status with them and then would have to pay much higher fees. Any suggestions? Mods, feel free to move this if it is in the wrong forum. Edit: Yes, I am awake of collegeskydiving.com. But I am already in the top 5 post whores there and I thought I would get better responses here. -
[can of worms] Bumper sticker in my parking gargae today: "If guns are outlawed, then only outlaws would accidentally shoot their kids" [/can of worms]

Where are you going with this? Certainly, you could have predicted the type of responses you would get. Did you really think anyone would seriously vote yes, at least is the way that you framed the question? If you have some grand, hidden revelation then lets hear it. Otherwise, people will just continue with the predictable responses.

Looks like a great helmet! Any idea on actual availability dates? I did not see it on bonehead's website or paragear or square 1. Personally, I plan on jumping my newly bought used optik illusion for a season or two to get my flying more dialed in then I want to invest in a more serious helmet and better cameras. Hopefully it will be easily available (maybe even stocked?) at major dealers by next spring or summer (or sooner?).

Here's another quote: "This is not the age of pamphleteers. It is the age of engineers. The spark-gap is mightier than the pen. Democracy will not be salvaged by men who talk fluently, debate forcefully and quote aptly.” ~Lancelot Hogben, Science of the citizen What did you get banned for? Or is that taboo too?

In the given configuration, assuming no wear at the link (which acts like a pully), it would break at 1200 lbs. I have taken that simple course it statics so here goes: Draw a Free Body Diagram around the link, passing thru the line. You can then see that the diagram cuts the given lines in two locations. So, it would support twice the 600 lb weight. However, in a real system, the friction at the link would not be negligible, so this must be examined. Obviously, a smoother surface on the link would be better than a rough one. Anyway, a "floating" A-B line (as I am understanding it" really sounds like a bad idea to my non-rigger ears. Feel free to correct.

Once again you completly miss the point and avoid responding to a logical topic. The point, again, is that it is the act of having hope that you are percieving to get benefit from. Could be a hope in the Christian God, Zues , Allah, or the sketti monster, it doesnt matter. If that gives you the jollies, then go for it, but don't try to convince others that it is right for them (which is one of the core beliefs of Christians) Ahh, before I said I was not going to dignify your absurb posts with a further reply and I mean it this time. -

OK, well then what about all the people that find joy and comfort in a religion that is different than yours? Or all the atheists that tough it out and get thru their problems by sheer will power without an imaginary friend? Perhaps you are starting to get the picture but I doubt it. Here it is- it is your HOPE in God that you are getting joy from. The idea of an almighty brings you comfort. It could just as easily be a belief in the sketti monster, because his existance is just a verifiable as your God's. And your definition of evidence needs some serious work. ___________________________________________ RE: Ryno >Or worse than that, you are a believer but have chosen to deny and betray his grace, and for what, evidence of the invisible? -Belief only in verifiable science -Trying to better life here instead of hoping for an afterlife -Helping others because it is right, not hoping for an imaginary reward -Letting others live life according to their own principles and not forcing my beliefs on them Take your pick. And don't even get me started on what is really invisible. -

Apart from my misunderstanding what he said, could you please point out the irony. The irony is that you talk of humbleness then proclaim that everyone who believes differently than you is going to burn forever in a lake of fire. What could be less humble than saying that you are going to heaven while others burn in hell? And I know you will spit out some line like "Its nothing I did, its all Jesus" but thats BS. You, and every other Christian in the world, has yet to produce a verifiable, repeatable and directly observable shred of evidence to support your beliefs. Similarly, Kallend is exactly correct when he states that we have just as much evidence to believe in the flying spaghetti monster. And your definition of "faith" would be better called "being naive". And I never claimed to be humble. I do indeed believe that I am smarter than a religious person, at least in this area. Furthermore, I am done responding to any of your posts until you start replying to the questions that are asked with logic, not emotions. People like you infuriate me. I believe that your viewpoints are misguided and that your inability to even entertain thoughts outside of your current viewpoint is disgusting. And before you accuse me of being as close minded as I claim that you are, you should now that I thought I was a Christian for 19 years before I broke out of that mentally constricting viewpoint. But like I said, I am done with you until you say something that is not a repeat of your already debunked claims. Edit for spelling and clarity. -
Idea- can we PLEASE have a PA's allowed day?
VTmotoMike08 replied to VTmotoMike08's topic in The Bonfire
Hmm no I don't think that is one. Anyway, the intense verbal bashing that I want to give to some people on this forum cannot be conveyed without the direct use of a PA. And there are several individuals that I have in mind. Based on others replies, I can tell that I am no the only person who thinks said people are (PA here). I bet everyone here has at one time wanted to resort to verbally bonking someone else on the head and I propose one day where we can do it. That is all. Edit: I should add that my proposal would also include moderators. They would be both fare game and free to insult without restraint just like everyone else. -

Yup. And the funny/ sad part is that our buddy Ryno does not even see the Irony in it. Common sense does not appear to penentrate a heavy dose of religious indoctrination here. -

VTmotoMike08 replied to VTmotoMike08's topic in The Bonfire
I would. I have a few people that I really want to tell off and I would structure a logical arguement out of it and back it up with references. Then I would feel better. Whatever happens after that, so be it. -

Here's an idea: I propose that we have one day, one 24 hour period, where personal attacks be allowed without reprocussion on one thread only. I think that most everyone who has been posting (or lurking mostly, like me) here for a while has one or two people who really annoy the crap out of them. You know, that one person who every time you see their name, you know something moronic is about to follow and you just wish you could tell them to go.... So how about it mods? Lets have one day where we can really let 'em have it. Some guidelines: 1. Absolotley no threats of physical violence or wishes of death. 2. Things along the line of "I think you are a ...." are completly acceptable. 3. Post a sticky at the top of the bonfire telling when it will be. Also in this sticky, advise everyone that if they cannot handle the worst that everyone on these forums has to throw at them, then they should not read this thread. 4. At the end of 24 hours, it would be completly deleted, not just locked. So why not? It would be a good way to blow off steam and no one is in any way required to read it. I just really want to tell a few people how dumb I think they are. I don't care if it is childish, sometimes you just gotta tell it like it is. -

Hmm... I'm not sure. There is some pretty good moving water in that thing and at the very least you will still have head losses due to friction in the tubes, which is the most significant source of head loss (besides elevation differences). And head loss due to fittings and turbulent flow also. Even if it is a very efficient siphon, you can't have continually moving water without at least adding some energy to the system. And there sure looked there was air space in that thing too. But I am sure they have some engineers who are a lot better than me working on this one.
