  1. Pretty cool. Agreed that the technology probably needs some more time. One more thing to consider: what is the electricity consumption of that thing? I don't know much about biochemistry but I do know a thing or two about fluid mechanics and hydrology. To move all that green water thru those tubes, you need a pretty big pump. The higher those tubes get, the more pumping power you need. Gravity can take over the flow once you get it to the top, but you still need a pump that can generate the required static head. If that pump uses more energy than is created by the algae reactions, then the whole thing goes down the crapper. Analysis by someone much smarter than me is required.
  2. Interesting. But at what cost can biofuels be made from human fat? Surely, there is significant processing (equivalent to refining) costs to this project, and nevermind the cost of those surgeries. If I were a betting man, I would bet that it will still never be economical to make biofuel from human fat.
  3. So does this law go into effect today meaning that it is immediatly enforcable? If so, then please someone should put in a call to some lawyers TODAY so that they can start the paperwork to bust them while the websites are still up. Someone who is a skydiving has gotta know a lawyer in Tennessee.
  4. OK, for those of you who post so much every day, in all the forums, at all hours- how do you possibly find the time??? Don’t you people have jobs? I am usually not too busy at work and I can find time to check these forums about 6 times a day when I want to (or more when I start a post), along with the occasional personal email checking and news reading. But for those who average 20+ posts a day, at all different times of the day, how do you possibly manage this? I know there can’t be that many retired people or stay at home parents out there. Especially those who post on SC and always back up their statements with good links and articles- those things take some time to look up. Really, who has the kind of jobs that allows 3- 5 hours of random internet browsing per day? Post what you do for a living that allows so much free time, I gotta know it.
  5. >I wasnt forecasting. I was revealing the prophecy as it is written as best I know how. And I wasn't yelling, I was talking loudly. 6 in 1, half a dozen in the other, what you did amounts to another religious fanatic mouthing off about doomsday and deserves as much serious consideration as all those who have come before you... none at all >Do you think that man doesnt have the ability or the will to destroy himself??? The ability? sure. Could have done that with the cold war and MAD. The will? Of course not. The desire of the species to continue to live is one of the most obvious forces in biology. Fear of death is arguably the most innate of human traits.
  6. I see plenty of shades of gray, but I also sometimes see pure black and white. Shades of gray- the differences between how Europeans and US citizens approach healthcare. Many world trade policies and organizations. Economic conditions that create great wealth for some while impoverishing others. Pure black- those who want to kill others for having a different religious belief than them. Puppy eating The Boston Redsocks. Pure white- probably no one. But I am damn sure that the US is more white than the Taliban if you want to put it that way.
  7. Oh oh I know whats gonna happen. Im supposed to say something like "the possibility that Bin Laden might be hiding in their country" then you are supposed to respond quoting the number of dead in Iraq right?? Thats how SC works afterall. Well, believe it or not, some things are worth people dying for. The possibility that a bad man might be hiding in their country, or that their dictator might have WMDs and is generally a nasty person, IMO, is not one of them. Sending a message to the world that we will not tolerate terrorism and that we are preparted to hunt you down and kill you if you do it to us or want to do it to us might be. Obviously, that is why the operation in Afghanistan enjoyed so much support in the months after 9/11.
  8. ...or you could be reading what you want to read from the Bible and making it fit your already formed viewpoint... again. People like you have been forcasting the end of the world based on current events for decades, nothing new here. I'm just glad we all made it thru that Y2K bug, I thought for sure that would be the death of us all!!! Must have been God helping. My own grandfather told his kids not to worry about jobs when they grow up because he was certain that Jesus would return before the year 2000. All that cold war stuff had to signal the end, right?? Thankfully, someone in the family did not listen to him.
  9. OK, ya I kinda did that on purpose to make a statement. But if it helps, you can still vote yes and then explain your thought process.
  10. Ya, counting never was my strong point, no child left behind my ass But I want to keep this thread away from the current war in Iraq. The question was: Do you think that America's actions before 9/11 merited the given response. I have a feeling that there is a disturbingly large amount of peopel out there who do.
  11. A couple reasons. Most people would kill someone else if they believed it was the only way to prevent being killed themselves. Such self preservation is a natural instinct for all creatures.
  12. From a spinoff of the Obama wants to... thread Vote and explain your reasoning. There is no third choice because its a pretty simpe question. If you vote yes, then are are saying that the Taliban are basically well meaning people who just got their toes stepped on by the big bad US and had to respond in the only way that they could. I just want to see how many people actually think this way. I vote NO. I think there have been some pretty drastic failures of US foreign policy in the middle east, but that none of our actions (before or after 9/11) merited an attack in that manner.
  13. Agreeded that it does not make a difference to them and that civilian causualities have been a terrible thing. However, "not the primary (intended would have been better) target" does make a difference in answering the implied question in this thread which is: which is worse the US or the Taliban?
  14. OK, I have observed our foreign policy for the last few decades. I conclude that it is sometimes good, sometimes bad and sometimes not sure. However, I do not conclude that anything we have done could even remotely merit a response like 9/11 from any reasonably minded people. The people who did that are F'n nut jobs. Should they continue to wish the same for us, I think that we should hunt them down and kill them before the do it to us. That's my opinion and I'm stickin to it.
  15. Yes, but civilians were not the primary target. If they were, we could just use poison gas on them... o wait, the current leader was already doing that
  16. Because we at least gave them a little heads up that we would be coming to Iraq. Pearl Harbor was a lot more of a surprise. And I did not start that, it was another poster who implied that if 9/11 was unwarented (as I believe) then so was the invasion of Iraq (which I also believe).
  17. I agree that we goofed on the invasion of Iraq. However, we did not go in with the declared purpose of killing as many civilians as possible. There has been significant civilian causualities, but our declared target was the government. When the Taliban crashed planes into the WTC, they were trying to kill as many civilians as possible. That makes 9/11 far worse than the Iraq invasion in my mind.
  18. I never said that we had the best foreign policy or that they might not have a legit grievance against us. I just said that nothing that we have done merited a response like 9/11.
  19. >adhering to their enemies If you crash an airplane into our buildings to make a political statement, you are our enemy (among other things). If you agree with doing so, I believe that qualifies as adhering (to their ideas). Could also be interpreted to mean giving mental aid and comfort, kinda like the opposite of "support the troops" So I ask you: Do you think that we deserved 9/11? If you do, then I think that makes you an enemy of this country and an all around despicable person. Cheers. Edited to clarify adhesion and aid/ comfort.
  20. The above quote attributed to an al-Pistoff spokesman . I really can't believe I just read that. So we deserved 9/11 because we live a lifestyle like we do? Wow. So the terrorists are right? Real reasons why they hated us enough to crash planes into our buildings: -Our support of Israel -Their brainwashing culture that tells them we just want to kill Muslims -General craziness I have heard your sentiments before, and will no doubt hear it again. It is borderline treason, IMO. I could go on into further reasons that you are terrible mistaken in your viewpoints but I have a feeling my comments would be wasted.
  21. I understand and agree with what you are implying. I never implied that not having a mal somehow makes you a better skydiver. And since we are picking at the tiny details here, I will add that your comment about pilots only applies to skydiving in the sense of someone else damaging your gear midflight, as you are implying that the veteran war pilot got shot down in flight and managed to save himself. If he got in an airplane that he knew was bad, or one that he improperly maintained himself, or one that he did not do a pre-flight check on, then I think that is indeed a reflection of his skill as a pilot and/ or mechanic. The only thing that my post was implying was a curiosity as to who has been lucky the longest, nothing else.
  22. No where in my thread did I suggest that not having one was a goal worth obtaining. It is however, IMO, mildly entertaining to see who has been fortunate the longest. Or a sign that you are a very good packer. Or that you maintain your gear to the highest standards. Or that you are very reliable in your body position on deployment. Or that you are just a little bit lucky. Yes. And how do you even know that I have not already?
  23. So exactly (or approximatly) how many jumps does it take to be #2 in the world??
  24. Then what is the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for? Not linking to it because I know you are familiar with it and what it has been used for in the past. How much do we really need to save for this emergency? There's already a good bit there.
  25. I was thinking most in a row. And Tony Hathaway does appear to be in the lead. And documented first hand accounts like his are better than mine that just said "I know some guy who..." Thanks. 8400 Spectre jumps without a mal, wow!
