  1. Democracy is an economic system. Free elections and a free media keep controls on the excess and corruption of governments. IMO any government needs a strong opposition otherwise corruption, cronyism, etc.is the natural result. i.e. All power corrupts, absolute.... we all know the rest. Democracy adjusts stimulus, taxes, etc. as the voters demand. Not immediately but the pendulum does swing. Democracy will always win in the end because autocracies always end up looking after themselves. Singapore the likely sole exception. Looking in the rear view mirror is trumpism. No populism isn't dead. Poland, and some other countries are still dealing with populism. America is moving ahead taking stock of the lessons learned more or less.
  2. Established, adjudicated, ruled, decided and finalized some time ago.
  3. Yes Joe and the same applies to populists together with their politicians. No matter the science or economics studies logic can be denied.
  4. She is a prime example of the imperfections of evolution.
  5. FOX, Hannity, et al;have moved on a bit. But typical Brent. First the economy is failing(at 6% GDP growth), then prices are rising(robust demand), then he can't explain why there are millions of unfulfilled jobs in America. Can't explain why the stock market is up 12% since President Biden won. The talking points of the FOX /right are parroted by Brent. All a part of the right wing news cycle.Where growth, employers bidding up wages are skipped and Hillary's e-mails covered by Hannity at 6:00 P.M.
  6. Approved by Governor September 25, 2012. Filed with Secretary of State September 25, 2012. ] LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2230, Gatto. Recycled water: car washes. Existing law requires the State Water Resources Control Board to take appropriate actions to prevent waste or the unreasonable use of water. Under existing law, the board makes determinations with regard to the availability of recycled water. This bill would require an in-bay car wash, as defined, or a conveyor car wash, as defined, permitted and constructed after January 1, 2014, to either install, use, and maintain a water recycling system, as defined, that recycles and reuses at least 60% of the wash and rinse water, or to use recycled water provided by a water supplier for at least 60% of its wash and rinse water.
  7. Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 6.4 percent in the first quarter of 2021 Is not stagflation, back to school for you. How the economy under Trump went from rocket ship to lead balloon Donald Trump “We're bringing it (the GDP) from 1 percent up to 4 percent. And I actually think we can go higher than 4 percent. I think you can go to 5 percent or 6 percent.” Which of course never happened despite over $5 trillion in stimulus and borrowing.
  8. Inflation and shortages...together with a slowing recovery? I'd suggest school so you can understand how those factors operate.
  9. On the weekend "Richard Barnett, the Capitol Insurrectionist, who famously had his photo taken sitting on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s desk last January, talked to Russian State TV this weekend. Barnett is currently out on bail and is awaiting trial. Russian State TV is portraying Barnett as an “innocent victim.” His lawyer, Joseph McBride, complained to the Russians: Those who do not like the gov’t or the police are locked up… not provided with medicines, food is not given on time… sometimes beaten. This is terrible. Say what now? As Julia Davis, who shared the news on Twitter, points out… Imagine what would have happened to any protester who broke into the Kremlin and propped his feet up on Putin’s desk."

    covid-19

AHS breaks down vaccination data of COVID-19 Delta variant outbreak at Calgary hospital People should not piss about on getting their second dose.
  11. Right Also right. Therefor insert education. There must be some conservatives of the trump style that can plug vaccines...McConnell, the odd FOX personality....??
  12. “The key impacts — heat, drought and shorter seasons — will result in the industry failing. It’s arguably already happening, and it’s coming far faster than industry leaders believe,” explains Auden Schendler, the senior vice president of Sustainability for Aspen Snowmass. Although the CCC study is new, ski area concerns about climate change are not. “We’ve been thinking about this for twenty years, and it’s all playing out precisely as the science said it would — but slightly worse,” says Schendler. “The ski business is going to become unviable, and it’s going to happen from a few directions.First you’ll see smaller, regional, lower-elevation resorts going out of business due to heat. It’s already happening. Second, even big, established resorts are going to see their season crimped — later start, earlier end." Perhaps its time for the oil industry and their shareholders to pay for the damages petroleum causes.Just as the tobacco industry had to pay.
  13. Clearly you'd never be a politician. Sucking is their raison d'être. i.e. Texas Says It Will Build Border Wall With Mexico “Texas will not sit idly by as this crisis grows,” Gov. Greg Abbott said of border crossings, while offering few details about the wall. he said. “Some of these border barriers will be built immediately.” Then the governor revealed, to thundering applause, that Texas would also build a border wall. “While securing the border is the federal government’s responsibility, Texas will not sit idly by as this crisis grows,” Mr. Abbott said, adding, “Our efforts will only be effective if we work together to secure the border, make criminal arrests, protect landowners, rid our communities of dangerous drugs and provide Texans with the support they need and deserve.” Then he stopped for a break to wipe his brown nose.
  14. "Louis "Louie" Buller Gohmert Jr. is an American attorney and former judge currently serving as the U.S. Representative from Texas's 1st congressional district since 2005. Gohmert is a Republican and is part of the Tea Party movement." Rep. Louie Gohmert, who often went without a mask, tests positive for the coronavirus Texas republican, all you need to know, nothing to see here, move on.
  15. The US tax code is filled with special interest deductions. Most were introduced by the GOP. The GOP recently passed a massive tax reduction bill. Yet never dealt with the deductions/loopholes for the very rich. For the middle class the recently introduced deductions have sunset clauses. The code is not written for billionaires in general. Its written to benefit the very wealthy. In general democrats suggest higher taxes on the wealthy. The graph shows that has little traction in the US. The GINI index(world rankings here, scroll down ) indicates income inequality. The US, China and Russia are neck and neck.
  16. Most people don't travel internationally over the course of...even a decade. Vaccine passports will be a tougher sell than masks for some. Border controls for most countries will want some sort of proof be it a passport or other documentation.
  17. The Secret IRS Files: Trove of Never-Before-Seen Records Reveal How the Wealthiest Avoid Income Tax The ProPublica Revelations Show Why We Need to Tax Wealth More Effectively How Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Michael Bloomberg, George Soros, and other American billionaires have gamed the system. (Same story from New Yorker) So The GOP is shown once again that they love the stupid, the poor and the middle class. Because they can game the system successfully. Then pay next to nothing for it.
  18. I feel the same sense of frustration that you do. But there is more than one way to most objectives.
  19. Absolutely correct. Bans and any attacks on the 2nd are DOA. The conservative courts will allow common sense restrictions. Its time to start on that. But with Texas "open carry for all" thinking its not going to be easy. Biden has the cards now. The NRA is on the ropes financially. Biden needs to turn his VP loose on the ideas that BIGUN has proposed, as a start.
  20. The second is not the issue. "Assault weapons" bans have been passed before. There is nothing inherently wrong with gun ownership, even high capacity magazines. Its keeping them out of the hands of people who should not own them. The attack in Canada in the last week on a Muslim family that killed four. Was committed by a 20 Y/O male with no criminal history. He could have obtained a handgun with 10 round magazines with not much effort, legally. Then perhaps killed many more. One of my first thoughts was did Canadian gun control, being what it is. Keep him from pursuing that course of action. I agree that the issues of gun violence can be addressed w/o the nuclear options of bans and attacking the 2nd amendment. But where is the GOP? McConnell? Overall with the Dems in charge its up to them to introduce passable measures. Its a mistake to speak of bans.
  21. Agree about irresponsible media. But have to disagree about the idea that what she did was wrong. IMO the valedictorian bit is irrelevant. If a athlete did the same thing I'd see no difference. If a similar HS student on their own initiative came up with the same well thought out speech. It would be well served for open and inquisitive minds to consider the topic. Absent racist, sexist or unlawful topics of course. Debate is important for minds yet to formulate values. After all the absence of values is what forms GOP supporters.
  22. I thought you were a NSA spy?... In any event you're wrong as usual. "Results. The United States accounted for 42% of prescription drug spending and 40% of the total GDP among innovator countries and was responsible for the development of 43.7% of the NMEs. The United Kingdom, Switzerland, and a few other countries innovated proportionally more than their contribution to GDP or prescription drug spending, whereas Japan, South Korea, and a few other countries innovated less. Conclusions. Higher prescription drug spending in the United States does not disproportionately privilege domestic innovation, and many countries with drug price regulation were significant contributors to pharmaceutical innovation." You call excess profits that arise from political lobbying, handouts. "From 2000 to 2018, the profitability of large pharmaceutical companies was significantly greater than other large, public companies, but the difference was less pronounced when considering company size, year, or research and development expense. Data on the profitability of large pharmaceutical companies may be relevant to formulating evidence-based policies to make medicines more affordable." So the industry is more profitable and innovates no more that other countries with universal healthcare. Instead paying shareholders the excess profits that a captive US market generates.
  23. McConnell and the other GOP leaders conducted the litmus test on trump after the November election. They tested again after Jan. 6th with the same results. They determined that challenging trump supporters in the party was still caustic.
  24. Come-on Joe. Some people have dreams about winning the lottery. Some dream that the justice system still works. Some dream that the teflon Don will finally sizzle in in the fry pan like he deserves.
