Looked all around, can't find anything.

You nailed it. Withdrawal won't happen in this administration, but it will be the end result eventually, and a democratic Iraq will never exist in our lifetime. Period. Anyone who doubts this had better get a good grasp of Middle Eastern history - FROM THEM, not fox nor cnn.

Her stagename is (was) Raven. This was in early 2001, and it was in Anderson, IN. I heard she changed venues shortly after that, though.

With all due respect, WW2 was justified. In particular, we were attacked, and Germany declared war on us within a few days. In no way is the war in Iraq justified. If it were, she would not be doing this.

Exactly - it was a common mode failure. There was a design failure that caused all of the polisher valves to slam shut cutting off water to the steam generators, AND both 12 valves supplying emergency feedwater to the steam generators were closed. So three "almost impossible" events occured within a few seconds. I guess I may be a little hard on the operators: Their training was woefully inadequate, and the pressurizer water level indicator was "keeping secrets" from them. But it's hard for me to accept that not one of them was familiar with Boyle's Law.

Jeb's "A year in the life" video is also excellent.

Holy shit! Those boobs weigh more than I do, and do more damage! I'm guessing they are real - since they seem rather malleable. Fake ones are hard as rocks. I found this out in Indiana when I got a lap dance from a woman who slapped her (fake) boobs side to side across my face. I looked down and there was blood everywhere (nosebleed). They felt like iron baseballs smashing my face!

I had the same experience - it was awesome! That BOOM several seconds later is what caps it off, after the beautiful smoke trail. The universe is one wonderful entity, isn't it? I guess I'm diverging here a little, though....

The B&W nuclear reactors had an inherent design flaw, and would react quickly to any anomaly in the system itself. What actually happened was predicted by the head of the emergency-core-cooling-system engineer at B&W (Bert Dunn). Dunn sent numerous memos to the head management at B&W explaining that even if water level in the pressurizer is rising (an indication that the reactor core is completely covered with water), the water level may be receding in the core. The head of marketing never sent out this warning. The thing that I find unbelievable is that there were monitors indicating that the temperature was rising rapidly, and the pressure was falling like a loose toolbox. The only way this can happen in a "closed" system is that there is a LEAK!!!! I live 1 hour away from the Davis-Besse nuclear reactor near Sandusky, and the first 20 minutes of an incident that occured in 1977 (B&W reactor) mirrored that of TMI. Luckily the shift supervisor recognized the relief valve had stuck open, and ordered the block valve to be closed. At TMI, it was a little too late. There were many warnings about this situation from engineers too, and as I said earlier, mere inspectors - and none were heeded. TMI occured 2 years later. The difference here is that there was concrete evidence of design flaws that were completely ignored by those in upper management at B&W and the NRC - there wasn't even a debate. And there was a woefully inadequate training program for operators. C'mon. Anyone with a high school chemistry course is familiar with Boyle's law. Those at TMI obviously weren't. All the way up to the shift supervisor! If these are the guys in charge of our nuclear facilities, what does that tell you?

A fuel tank explosion would only give off a few pounds TNT equivalent - not enough for a sonic boom at that distance. IMHO, all federal agencies are lacking in competence - NASA, NTSB, NSA - all of them. That's why I don't put too much credence into the NTSB's investigation. I mean, as far as the missle theory is concerned, they didn't even ask the correct questions of the chemist who tested the "3M" material on the seats. And I doubt you are old enough to remember the NRC investigation into three mile island. A "low-life" inspector warned of the shortfalls of Babcock and Wilcox reactors long before the tragedy. They clearly didn't listen. And of course NASA and Challenger.....

No, he's retired. Noisy, yes. Sonic boom? Never. Anyway, here's the site: www.icstars.com/Flight800/TWAflt800.html I haven't much knowledge in these areas so rip away if you find errors.

I recently read an article by a structural engineer for TWA where he claims he is certain a meteor brought down the airliner. If said meteor were as large as a football, it would be seen as a streak appearing to go upwards (as witnessed by 150+). There were reports of sonic booms (which a meteor of that size would cause) and shaking windows on Long Island. I know there have been several conspiracy theories concerning this tragedy. This guy seems to make sense. Could an explosion of the central fuel tank 11 miles away cause windows to shake? What's your opinion?

I think if I were a father and I had lost my son in a war that is illegal, I'd be in Sheehan's camp. Should be "god bless our murderer!"

But, then again, does this imply she's not going to use the money solely for her's and all the other's cause?

Knowing a little about Arab history and Saddam himself, I believe he is sincere. Having any country in the middle east occupied is extremely vexing to most Arabs. The statement itself, however, will get him nowhere.

I only have 2 jumps, and I do meet all of your requirements, and I do think of myself as a skydiver. Now the hard part - when will I be a GOOD one?

I have to agree with kelp on this one. The patriot act is a classic example - a lot of people don't realize how our rights as citizens are being abused. This certainly isn't good for our society. Benjamin Franklin: That they can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve niether liberty nor safety.
-
At first I did not understand what you meant by "the era of the 'patriot.'" Now that you have clarified yourself, I can honestly say I couldn't agree with you more.
-
That's the one.

Many thanks! I shall pick up a copy.

Yeah, I ran across this, and it is a good intro - but I'm looking for something much more comprehensive, with lots of exercises. This is one of those nasty branches of operations research that boggles the mind until suddenly the light comes on and everything falls into place. I've already "seen the light," but want to become really good at it. Thanks!

I understand this. The airliner in Pa. left absolutely no "large" fragment. What I'm saying is that if the airliner did NOT crash into the pentagon, then where TF did it go? The conspiracy theorists offer no explanation for this. Do you see my point?

Okay, I guess this may be a longshot, so I apologize in advance for "taking up space." I am looking for the "best" textbook on an introductory course in dynamic programming. I haven't had much luck on the web, and the universities around here have no experts in the field. I thought maybe there might be some engineers out there who might be familiar with the field and have a suggestion. I am a pure mathematician and want to sharpen my applied math skills, and this field just fascinates me. Thanks.
