MIKE: Yeah, it's pretty difficult to explain just how loud and obnoxious the ringing can be unless you've experienced it, especially when the environment you're in is fairly quiet. My problem lately seems to be mostly with people who already know that I have hearing problems. When meeting new people, I'm pretty quick to explain the situation the first time I have to ask them to repeat themselves. G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. Okay, I need to vent a little here. 3 times in the last week I've had people cop an attitude with me and start yelling because I couldn't understand what they were saying, even though they know that I now have problems when there's even the slightest background noise present. I get as close to people as I can, and it helps to watch their lips when they're talking, but I'm not a goddamned lip reader yet. I can hear that they're saying something but can't make it out, if that makes any sense, and being an asshole about it and yelling doesn't help me to hear them any clearer, it's just a louder muffled fucking noise!!! It frustrates the fuck out of me to have to keep asking people to repeat themselves and try to talk slowly and pronounce their words more clearly, but then the great majority of them act as if it's a bother to them. If you're one of those people, try this: Get yourself a cheap set of disposable foam ear plugs and put them in at the start of the day. Keep them in all day as you go about your daily business and see how pleasant it is...You can hear with them in, but not enough to tell what most people are saying except in a very quiet room. See how frustrated you are by the end of the day, and then maybe then you'll have an idea what it's like. If you know someone who's constantly asking people to repeat themselves, pay attention and notice if they're making an effort to understand you. Take notice if they move closer to you while you're talking, especially if you see them intently watching your lips, or turning their ear directly toward you in an attempt to understand you. Above all else, remember this: Being an asshole does NOT help me to hear you any better. It does make me not give a fuck one way or the other though. G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. Honestly, I don't blame you. I really don't want my son jumping at all. I wouldn't think twice about jumping out and leaving his little ass hanging there though.

If you want a formal apprenticeship, contact the IBEW. Be prepared not only to work as an apprentice, but to spend 2-3 nights per week in class if you apply and are accepted into the program. Draw and presentation drills from your usual carry mode...Dry fire drills if you have snap caps. If you carry an auto, practice malfunction clearance drills...tap, rack, bangs and slide sweeps for stovepipe mals. G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. I use packers a lot, and I always set my own brakes and stow the excess brake line; un-collapse the slider; do a line check & shake the canopy out; and cock my pilot chute. I won't get into whether or not I think a packer should do those things, as what I think about that is irrelevant. What matters to me is that I know they're done. If a packer couldn't (or wouldn't) close the container using flap sequence recommended by the mfr, then I wouldn't use that packer. G. Jones "I've never been quarantined.
