Do you mean actually hanging from the strut ? At our Dz, it's left foot on the step and right foot trailing, with both hands on the strut and hop sideways. Danger could be my middle name. But it's Paul.

I jump a TearDrop Superfly, and I've got exposed cable on mine as well. Seems to be almost standard I think. I've been told it could help on the pull though (as you can loop your thumb over it - see my other post) -
