  1. You will need to play with the "blending method" of the title clip... I don't have it sitting in front of me, but either "screen" or "white alpha matte" (if you built a standard Premier title) should work. 2. Both of these were taken with a Sigma 15mm EX Fisheye... On the D-60 that is equal to a 24mm Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  3. I finally got jump with my '60 this weekend... attached are a few of the pics Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  4. The people best suited to make this call for you are the people @ your DZ you know your canopy control skills (S&TA, Instructors, DZO...) In general, for someone who has displayed the abilities to handle and wants a higher performance ride, a sensible step would to an eliptical of the same size (say a Stiletto 135) or one step down on the same canopy (say a Spectre 120)... most people should not take both steps at the same time... You would also want to ensure that you are taking the manufactures recommended wing loading into account... drastic steps in either size or design, imo, are a bad idea... the best canopy pilots in the world had very deliberate progressions, especially in the begining. Again, this is all based on someone having demonstrated the capacity to handle something faster... if you can't fly your current size, don't get something smaller and think you can fly it any better. If your long term goal is to swoop, learn all you can about how canopies fly and what differnt control inputs will do... that has as much to do with the swoop as the platform... good techniques on a less than optimum platform will do ok, bad techniques on a good platform will get you killed. 5. I have not had a chance to set my '60 up yet, maybe this weekend... just been shooting it on the ground and playing with different settings and lenses... What lens are you shooting? I've got a 20mm and a 15mm FE... (which are equal to a 32mm and a 24mm due to the conversion factor on the '60) Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  6. Thanks for the quick reponse... I've been shooting a E-20 since January and just got a D-60... the E-20 was/is great but has limitations... I think the D-60 will be a much better camera in the long run... As for film being replaced... I agree with you, the digitals are not there yet, but with the way technology has been advancing, who knows. 7. Hey Brent, Was wondering what your take on the growing use of digital stills is? Have you used them? Thanks, Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  8. In my opinion, a F111 210 to a ZP 135 is waaaay to big a step, particularly if they almost hurt themselves under a 170... I does not matter if it is "a friend" or yourself... you may never convince that person that it is not a good idea... the best thing to do is prevent that person from getting said canopy... best yet, put the issue in the hands of the DZO or S&TA or instructors... one of them should be qualified to make the call and have authority to enforce it. Trying a number of canopies is a good idea, but they need to be appropriately sized and have a logical down sizing progression... the mentality that "I don't want to have to buy another rig in 100-200 jumps because I will want a new canopy that won't fit" can get someone hurt... I kept my first container for 3 different canopy sizes (190/170/150). By the time I got to the 150 it was not the prettiest thing, but it worked and was still safe... The best canopy pilots in the world have worked their way down slowly. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

    Silly Air Force

The Army never got out of fixed wing... they have many for "special" purposes... mostly King Airs but some that are bigger... the NG even has a big brother to the Skyvan - the Sherpa... Back in the late 80's earily 90's when the AF started talking openly about dumping the A-10... there was lot's of talk about making CAS an Army mission... but, as you said the AF through a fit... CAS should be under the control and work regularly with the ground troops they support... I think the Marines do it this way with the AV-8B and AH-1S Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  10. a friend of mine had one a few years ago, when they first came out... it sucked... poor image stabilization... watching the video made everyone sick. Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  11. I have filmed 4/8/16/20/120+ in a freefly style camera suit and have no problems... there are no judgability issues from the suit... I won a bronze @ '01 Nationals in Int. 4-way shooting for Slow Motion in this suit... getting over the top is a matter of the flyers skill (first) and the size of the wing (second), IMO booties have nothing to do with it. 12. I jump 2 differnt sizes, a 103 @ 2.1:1, and a 96 @ 2.25:1... I have competed in PPPB (1st in Intermidate Speed and 2nd in Intermidiate Distance) and this year's Pond Swoop Nationals (finished in the top half)... In my experiance, my velocity(s) will not attain level flight without toggle or riser input (notice I did not say return to... they don't fly level to begin with, not with out inputs)... They will recover from the dive but they will only return to their normal glide ratio and return to their normal speed after a dive. Note: I am not saying that Ian is wrong, only that MY canopies will not level out on their own... his might... each canopy is a little different (trim, brake settings, yada, yada) Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  13. the x3 chip is in the Sigma S9 (3+MP)... I have not heard of a 6MP (or larger) version yet... The challenge with the increase in resolution will be the increase in file size... high cap CF cards are still not cheap... the camera's buffers need to keep up as well... write time is already a problem with many cameras. 14. There are lots of other military skydiving teams, most of them are demonstration only, the Leap Frogs (the Navy's offical team), Ft. Benning, Ft. Bragg, SF, and some others... West Point and the Air Force Academy (not sure about Navy) have collegiate teams. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke

  17. I personally know that they are... they fall under the U.S. Army Recruiting Command... now to the question... Should they be allowed to compete? Yes, and as a tax payer, I would expect them to win. Do they have an edge? Yes, but it has been shown they can be beat. It's not all gravy...they also have hindrances... they must draw from a pool of volunteers (3 times over... 1st for the Army, 2nd for Airborne School (even if you are already a skydiver), and 3rd for the Knights)... they are rotated out (most of them) so the team is being rebuilt constantly... And the comp team is only a small part of the organization... the demo teams that spend 200+ days a year traveling is the meat and potatoes of the Knights. 18. The full frame is not visable on the TV, but it is on the computer... If you have access to a editing program, Premier or Final Cut Pro (or others), you should be able to pull up guides... they appear as boxes centered on the frame... there are two of them... the motion or action safe guide, which shows what will be seen on the TV, and a title safe guide, which shows where you should place titles or graphics on the frame so that they will not be pinched when displayed on a TV. 20. Line overs are often cleared by using this method, and is taught as the first thing to try (at least when I went through FJC)... If you do clear one this way, you should be sure to check the canopy for damage (line burns on the top skin). Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  21. I do not find the toggle or riser pressure to be a problem on either of my velocities... Are the toggles heavy or do they just take a lot of input to induce a turn? If it is the later, it is probably due to how the brakes are set, longer control lines to allow for better front riser use. If it is the former, I can't comment because I have not had the problem... the front risers are a little heavy, but certainly manageable... mine are loaded at 2.1 and 2.25:1... 22. Swoop! or Dirt Water Dirt have some good examples of good and bad swoops... But, as was stated in another post, you cannot learn to swoop by watching a video... trying some of the techniques displayed in the videos (by the pros) without proper training will get you hurt. 23. Take it off the helmet and put it in a zip lock bag... the CF dust can kill it. Also for best results in drilling... use the highest RPM drill or drumel tool you can find... the higher RPMs make the hole cleaner and make it less likely to splinter. 24. Try Chris Miller at Spaceland... 1-800-skydive from the houston area... or if you are not in town... 281-369-3337 Josh All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund Burke
  25. I'm sure some of them did, but there were very few injuries... a hyper-extended knee (in the last round), back strain (re-injury), and a deep thigh bruse (was jumping again by the end of the comp) were the worse I know of.
