Any USPA DZs require AADs?
StreetScooby replied to StreetScooby's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks, Bill! That's what I needed to hear. Next question - how do I demonstrate that I have 1000 jumps? I passed that mark some time ago. I don't even remember logging it. We are all engines of karma -
Any USPA DZs require AADs?
StreetScooby replied to StreetScooby's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm a little old school. Jumped many years without a helmet or an AAD. Wouldn't even own an AAD until Tommy Piras went in (...too scared they'd work when they shouldn't). Didn't even own a helmet until this season, when I started doing regular 4 way with very experienced guys and we're averaging 10-12 pts in time using open dives (...remember, Tommy, Jack, et. al. didn't start using helmets until 14 pts were winning the nationals). I'm pretty careful when it comes to people I'm jumping with. Don't mind jumping with newbies, just not in large blocks. For the last many years, I've done nothing but 4 way, with the occasional Guy Wright load. The most important thing to me - my airplanes must be perfectly good, and the pilots have to get me over the drop zone. We are all engines of karma -
Having grown up in Baton Rouge, lived through Betsy (when I was very young), and personally witnessed what Camille did to Biloxi, I'd be leaving 48 hours before a cat 3/4/5 hit. I live in the NYC metropolitan area now. About 5 years ago, we had a tropical storm come through. There's nothing but shallow rooted trees all through this area. The TS made a _mess_ of the place. The main road I use from home to NYC was closed for 3 days, though MTA was running. We are all engines of karma

Reminds me of what my grandmother told my mother: Don't go near that water 'till you learn how to swim. BWAHAHAHA We are all engines of karma

No way. We're going to have to starve them, or take them by force. And taking them by force won't be easy. The NKs have enough regular artillery in place to destroy Seoul within 24 hours of the first shot being fired. Most people, when they think God is on their side, can justify anything to themselves. NK's leader actually thinks he _is_ God on earth. Check out NK's news web site: http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm You won't believe your eyes with some of the things they write. My personal favorite was a news item discussing Kim Jong Il's first golf game. Claims he made 13 holes in one. It would be funny if it wasn't so frightening. We are all engines of karma

Larry Allen, Offensive Lineman For the Dallas Cowbows
StreetScooby replied to rwieder's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm involved in minor (very minor, $30/week) sports betting at my local pub. We have to pick 3 games a week using the Thursday NYPost line. Last year, I actively tracked injuries. Actually, I tracked the change in injuries for each week. This would let me go against a newly beat up team. Worked well, until I lost my dedicated line at home (...due to, guess what, Sarbanes Oxley requirements). Trying to down load NFL rosters (with injury information, which comes out Thursday pm) over a dial up using Microsoft's MFC class turned out to be infeasible. I'm thinking of moving to Perl using LWP, but haven't gotten around to it yet. We are all engines of karma -

I like to watch the NFL, especially ESPN's Sunday night show. I am amazed at how much punishment these guys dish out/receive. Then, they get up and do it all over again roughly 50-70 plays a game. I don't see how any of them make it through the season without being permanently maimed. We are all engines of karma -
Terminal Velocity has to rank as one of the worst all time movies ever. I mean, it was so bad I couldn't even laugh at it. We are all engines of karma

It's a very difficult call. Isn't there basically one way into/out of the island? How many people live there? How long would it take to do an orderly evacuation? Do they even know how long it will take? We are all engines of karma

I also totally agree. It's their system. Gotta go with the flow. As long as I understand what the requirements are. We are all engines of karma

Interesting. Which raises a question I haven't heard any answers to... Even if they put them on buses before Katrina hit, where were they going to put them? We are all engines of karma

I'll just get my DZ to print a list of jumps, and have one of them sign it. We are all engines of karma

Any USPA DZs require AADs?

Mine is getting ready to expire. Since I spent alot of money for it, and never used it, I'm thinking of not getting another one. We are all engines of karma -
I'm still a little confused here. Should I have my DZ print out a list of my jumps and have them sign it before going to Perris (or similar) DZ? What other DZs require demonstration of currency? We are all engines of karma

This from today's Washington Post. Recruits Sought for Porn Squad The FBI is joining the Bush administration's War on Porn. And it's looking for a few good agents. Early last month, the bureau's Washington Field Office began recruiting for a new anti-obscenity squad. Attached to the job posting was a July 29 Electronic Communication from FBI headquarters to all 56 field offices, describing the initiative as "one of the top priorities" of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and, by extension, of "the Director." That would be FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III. Be careful out there... We are all engines of karma
