I'll propose this...(which has been suggested before) Eliminate the loophole where any person can buy a gun from a gunshow without autorization from a higher authority. Create a law where you have to track all gun sales (private) and if broken and that weapon was used in the course of a crime and the seller didnt report it they could be held accountable (not for the actual crime that was committed, but something equal to a high misdermeanor or low felony. This would be at least a decent initial offering.

Your post should add one more line: I have never pulled down on someone...and I hope I never have to, but will if necessary to protect my family.

I agree with holding gun owners responsible for their own weapons...and I agree with having strict legislation on selling guns from private owners, but obviously removing all guns by some stupid law not only doesnt work, it doesnt work in the president's hometown.

Lame. Laws that aren't enforced may as well not exist. Like speed limits on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago. Limit is 55 or 45, people drive 80.
