  1. NEW YORK -- In the wake of the Newtown tragedy, the debate over gun control and gun violence has raged. In the midst of this debate, many (but not all) celebrities have raised their voices in favor of stricter gun-control laws. As is often the case when a celebrity dips their toes in politics, outrage and mockery has ensued. After the Newtown tragedy, celebrities like Beyonce and Jon Hamm filmed a PSA (at left) calling for stricter gun control measures as part of the "Demand a Plan" campaign from Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition, which also includes familes of victims from the Aurora, Tucson and Virginia Tech tragedies. In the video, celebrities cite the names of the numerous recent mass shootings, then ask "How many more?" They then ask the public to "demand a plan" from "our leaders" to do something about gun violence. In response to the video, YouTube user "ma5one" uploaded a mashup of the PSA campaign, in which he (or she) juxtaposed scenes of violent film or television roles of the celebrities right after their part in the original campaign. The idea appears to be to point out the hypocrisy of celebrities calling for gun control while using violent, gun-fueled images to advance their careers. Giving credit to the YouTube user "Mike Hunt," "ma5one" wrote that the video is about "Hypocrite celebrities and their anti-gun agenda." In response to a comment on the video, Hunt wrote: "money and fame > principle." In the description section of a "clean" version of the video (above), "Mike Hunt" wrote: "They supported a mass murderer and war criminal for high office (see Obama's drone policy) and profit from a culture of violence that they now protest against. Riiiigggghhhhttt..." The Daily News called "ma5one" a "gun rights activist," but does not provide much other information on him or her. The video has taken off in popularity, receiving more than 500,000 views on ma5one's version alone, as well as tens of thousands more on other uploaded versions. Hollywood has been sensitive to the link between glorified violence on screen and real-life tragedies like the Aurora shooting and Newtown. Most celebrities say the blame lies squarely on the mentally ill perpetrators of the crimes. Jamie Foxx, however, who is featured in both the "Demand a Plan" original and mashup videos, and who has been a particular lightening rod for the debate after his starring role in the violent "Django Unchained" movie, feels differently. "We cannot turn our back and say that violence in films or anything that we do doesn't have a sort of influence," Foxx said in a recent interview. "It does." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrJjlPH1dqo&feature=player_embedded#! http://www.khou.com/entertainment/185625252.html
  2. What most people overlook was the shooter at the movie theater in colorado used a 100 round beta mag like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOiOrI56WH8
  3. An experienced shooter can change magazines in the range of 1-1.75 seconds. Thats not enough time to charge someone while theyre reloading. Which makes the high capacity magazine less relevant.
  4. If a device that kills tens of thousands is on the table for the southpaws...one to which only one person in the entire USA has access too. Then why discount hammers and clubs?
  5. Marc, There is no reasoning with an unreasonable person.
  6. Would you be in favour of allowing Iran and North Korea to develop and own nuclear weapons? the nuke stawman I wondered how long before this one came up You are going to have to explain to me how it is a strawman. Nuclear weapons are tools. Tools that are "allowed" to be owned by some countries and "banned" for other countries, mostly based on the ideology of the country (how they think). The banning is mostly based on the large amount of destruction possible with nuclear weapons. -------------------------------------------------- The discussion of nukes is pointless in this thread.
  7. I can understand calling names from time to time to get your point across. But the amount of times you like to rename the tea party and republicans illustrates your true age. I would say around 9 since kids at that age cant express themselves without calling names. Now go do your homework and STFU.
  8. Now if you can just take all that energy from defending kallend and devote that to suing all the 7 year old kids whose parents are in the NRA you could be crazy rich.
  9. Always first to defend your liberal bestie. Why dont you let the man answer his own questions.
  10. Yet someone decided to sue the Newtown school district for 100 million before retracting it. I often hear about how much it would be to place armed guards in the schools and how the government is hell bent on taking away citizens guns...if just half of the money spent on trying to take away guns was devoted to new ideas like this maybe that could lessen the number of kids killed when the next nutjob goes crazy. And by the way...Adam Lanza shot out a WINDOW. Not a blast door.
  11. He could stop whining too. Perhaps you should get a new eye exam. Pretty sure thats a girl in that picture.
  12. I think if he wants to gain any respect and ANY chance at public office he should man up and admit he pulled the trigger instead of being a pussy about it and saying it was the 'other guy'.

  14. Just ban everything. That should do it.
  15. Perhaps we should add axes to the clubs and knives argument while were at it. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4408762;search_string=why%20all%20axes%20should%20be%20illegal;#4408762
  16. At least I tried to come up with a solution that wasnt directly involving guns. However, all I got from you was sarchasm and snide comments.
  17. Can you explain to someone who wakeboards and water ski's regularly but lives in an area where it doesnt get cold enough for snow the difference between standard and parabolic skis?
  18. Do you know what kind of impact this would have on skydiving in china? Although I dont know what percentage of the population actually engages in those kind of activities.
  19. Surely there are multiple AF1's right now. I was just saying that when one of these gets decommissioned that one of the planes in the fleet didnt have to be as large as the others.
  20. Also having a laser type motion detector ON the doors themselves to prevent students from being trapped in the doors if they happen to be walking through the doorway when the button is pushed.
  21. Have you ever seen the movie snatch with Brad Pitt? Do you remember a scene where sol and vinny tried to rob a bookie? The person on the inside pressed a button and within a half a millisecond a barrier was raised that caught sol between it? What about that? Here is the situation: Someone brings a gun to school, and starts shooting. With security cameras the pricipal decides there is a emergency situation and hits the panic button which almost instantly raises and it brings a protective barrier between each class and the shooter. Now that obviously wouldnt help if a portion of the kids were at lunch together, but it could at least seperate some of the victims from the shooter. Then with ONE amed security guard, he would have a better chance. Your thoughts?
  22. If the movie Air Force 1 holds true then wouldnt they need other things like countermeasures? The more I think about it, with all the advanced communications gear, countermeasures, and radar jamming equipment maybe its better the president flew AF1. But I could see having a fleet of varying sizes for different occasions and occupant capacaties.
  23. I agree that there are many quotes from Wayne that could have been MUCH Better. But if dealing with fucking NUTCASES like feinstein; Perhaps you have to send an idiot to DEAL with another fucking idiot.
  24. So no love for team 3,4 or 5? Only the most publicized team I see. HOW ABOUT ALL OF THE MILITARY instead? Men on the teams (a vast majority) dont like publicity. They try to remain in the shadows. They are trained to remain enigmatic and keeping to the code. I am ex military and I have multiple family members in various forms of OPSEC. While they appreciate your vote...it is not necessary. They know the job they are doing and dont need any public commendations for it.
  25. Why couldnt he take a smaller Lear type jet instead of the AF1. I can understand when he is en route to peace talks and he need his cabinet with him, but just him...couldnt they use a smaller and cheaper alternative? After all Air Force 1 is a moniker associated with the president. Any subsequent aircraft he rides in becomes air force 1 for the duration of his flight.
