  1. And I have pretty small hands... which is why I don't like my Taurus. The grip on that thing is *way* too big for a 9mm. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  2. It's been a while since I was in the market so I'm a bit behind the curve. I saw the .40 & .357 models. I also noticed they have a 10mm model. What's the current thinking as far as 10mms go? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  3. I'm thinking of getting rid of my old Taurus 9mm and upgrading to a Glock .40 or a .45. Only thing is the cost of the ammo. Would I be better off sticking with 9mm or can you get .40/.45 rounds fairly cheap for target practice? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  4. Cool beans. Come on down to Houston when you get it and we'll take it for a test spin. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  5. My Dad is 60 and is an auto racing instructor, so you see where my genes come from . I tell him I've gone faster on my head than he has in his car. In any event congrats & have fun! I've seen people all over the age spectrum in this sport. Yeah you have to be in reasonable phsyical shape, but it sounds like you are more than qualified in that category. This topic brings up a question I've had for a bit now... Are there any 50+ freefliers out there? I know of Pat Works (how old is he anyway?) but are there any others? How do the younger freefliers treat them? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  6. See my sig, 'nuff said... "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  7. Then you aren't looking close enough... OK I'll stop now. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  8. Heh, to get Zen on ya... scenery is what you make of it. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  9. Jesus Christ Dave, I'd have trouble keeping up in a head down! You need to hook up with Rachel! As far as slowing down, the concept is similar to RW... get big. Push down with the arms & spread the legs out. To get really show I backfly. Did a jump today with a guy learning to sit and I was on my back most of the time to match fall rate (with moderate success... need to work on that ). Unless we attach a drogue chute to you, you may be doomed to backflying with head downers. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  10. Hey Derek! Glad to see you made it online! First off, Derek has offered me lots of advice on canopy control and I value his opinion greatly. His tips have helped me immensely. Second, to underscore Derek's point, we have a jumper who is currently in ICU, and last I heard he had a cardiac arrest that they were fortunately able to revive him from. We're all just hoping he'll pull through. This jumper, for reasons that are unknown to all the jumpers I talked to, decided to try a 180 hook turn for the first time at somewhere between 100-200 feet on a canopy loaded around 1.4. He impacted still in a double-front riser dive. The result? Both legs broken in several places (including both femurs), a ruptured spleen, a damaged kidney (which may never function again), a damaged liver and a ruptured aorta (that he didn't bleed to death is nothing short of a miracle). And those are only the injuries I know of. I went out to where he hit today and there are literally impact marks several inches deep in the ground. It was easy to figure out which divot belonged to his feet, knees elbows and face. Made all of us sick. I'm glad I wasn't there for the actual incident. My point in bring this up is that people like Derek, Lisa, Chuck and other people with thousands more jumps are valuable resources who possess information which can literally save our lives... if we put our egos on the shelf, be patient and heed their advice. Thanks again Derek for showing up here. I look forward to your posts.
  11. Wishing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!
  12. Except for a brief preiod, I've never worn a watch. Never had a problem figuring out what time it is. Plus, you get too wrapped up with what time it is and where you "should" be and you miss all the scenery. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  13. Good list Lisa. The only one I have a bit of an issue with is the requirement to post a list of participants the day before. This takes some of the spontenaity out, like as previously mentioned, during a boogie. If a bunch of dz.commers are at the DZ and decide, "What the heck, let's take a crack at the record." I think they should be able to. Other than that, I don't have a problem with the list you've provided. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  14. From a sit it's very easy. Basically just go limp and drop into a relaxed backfly. That will maintain fall rate. Then slowly start leaning back and pushing down with the arms & legs until you wind up in a full back track. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  15. Requiring the record be jumped as dirt dived is fair enough. But that sort of begs the question WRT speed stars. Get a good set of 20 jumpers together to build a speed star and they'll build it. No slots there. So if that's the plan and the dive goes as planned (i.e. all 20 get in) is that a record? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  16. Thanks, but actually what I'm looking for is a recipe for the sour mix itself ... fresh limes, etc. etc. Anyone? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  17. I'm in, but I'm wearing my freaksuit. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

    Holy Smackerel!

Oh man you'r so close to Houston! Ya gotta swing by for at least a visit!
  19. While we're on the subject, anyone know a good recipe for a home-made margarita mix? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."

    Holy Smackerel!

Jeez I get busy at work and I miss a cat fight & jello/pudding wrestling! Bad juju people! Am I gonna have to start a cyber-meditation seminar to get people to just lighten up a tad? Repeat after me... Breathing in I calm myself... Breathing out I smile.... There. Isn't that better? Kumbaya anyone? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  21. Ummmm.... that's never been the rule. This was debated in the last go-round and we agreed that the only requirement was that the people be registered on the website. Things such as "regularness" are too subjective and arbitrary. We'd wind up arguing over who's a legit "regular" or "poster" and who isn't and that's not the spirit of the thing. The idea is to get together among regulars and maybe spread the word to those who haven't heard about the site. Obviously many regulars showed up on the last one, but we didn't exclude people based on post numbers. Now if someone just runs over to the DZ computer and registers right before the load goes, that's really not in the spirit of the thing. That's why I'll generate the list before jump day. 22. I've often thought it would be cool to go head down to a big RW formation as a late-exiter (I wear my FF suit when I do RW, so it's no biggie). I'd kinda worry about zooming past/into the tracking RW folks though. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  23. Weren't Paula & Mike gonna try & get something going this weekend? If so I'm in. Heck I'll even bring a list of registered dz.commers... we gotta have at least 12-15 around at any given time. Breaking 8 will be cake if we get organized. Hey Slap you well enough to jump? If so, we'll put you in the base. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
  24. Nice pics! What flavor of camera? "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
