Jumping Geezacrap that is one phat setup! yeah I don't play much anymore, band politics and tendonitis did me in, my last band was a Zeppelin, Rush,Sound garden,Rage, Peppers mix with a little Dream Theatre thrown in- the guitar player was a monster riffmaster and insisted that I play all the sick bass chops...carpel tunnel county, what am I- an alien? I only have four fingers and a thumb on each hand. Still have my rig though...its a Hartke 400W racker with a hartke four ten cab over an 18" EV, built the bass myself out of an old Gibson grabber ,talk about 70's axes ...yeah, good times. 9. >>Why not buy $800 in stock in an alternative energy company. Yes here are some bargains...WFR, FSLR,VSE,SPWR but wait until the Fed makes a decisive move to cut rates and the mortgage insurance crisis has a clear resolution otherwise you'll get caught in a suckers rally like the one at the end of December. 10. >>I think the market would like to see a more finalized result before they get too excited. Oh, I totally agree but my point was about some of the details of the Bush proposals. I am not against getting some money into the hands of those that need it to stay afloat, and by this I mean families not banks and corporations, but for the president to state that the democratic controlled congress needs to get this tax rebate program extended to stimulate the economy is pure election year politics and will do nothing to help stem the tide of a recession. The stock market is swayed by many things, but it has a good nose for bullshit too, and it reacts more quickly than any other economic indicator. 11. Well, even though I am a Democrat- I have to admit you are talking to an investor- so I am looking for ways to improve my odds at making money in the stock market. We all gotta eat somehow. Anyway I was slightly encouraged by treasury secretary Paulsons explanation of the Bush plan but only slightly- as you can see the market yawned at this proposal. Most of it is fluff and talking points designed to give the impression that the Bush administration has everything under control. If you'll notice the secretary said that when congress sends over the bill he would "run like a bunny" to get that tax refund in our hands..... translation- were gonna give you some candy before the election. big fucking deal- again, the market yawned at the proposal. 12. in the face of a recession He used the opportunity to publicly put pressure on congress to extend his tax plan which was soon set to expire. Oddly the dow drops another 50 points after a 300 point drop yesterday- so much for confidence. Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415
  13. Stay tuned: The Bush will explain his economic stimulus package at 11:40 Eastern. Gotta love election years in the US, this is when the politicians scramble to gain voter confidence, it's why democracy works,-citizens can change the course of government by voting. lets keep it that way. 14. >>To say that the president does not affect the economy is just plain foolish. The US economy is a complex mechanism which does at times respond to a butterfly effect, meaning small changes in one sector can influence its over all health, or malaise in this case. lets look at some factors affecting the current recessive trend. 1) Sub prime lending collapse 2) A decline in the housing market 3) High oil prices 4) Reduced consumer spending 5) Fear of a bear market on Wall St. 6) Deceptive corporate earnings reports 7) Well known pundits spreading fear about a recession 8) Government policy changes 9) Declining value of the dollar These are just a few examples, and each plays a small role but together they can create the perfect economic storm. 15. Ok, so I marginalized the holidays, I am an agnostic and we feel a little besieged this time of the year with all the hullaballou. My point is people should celebrate whatever they want, however they want, and spell or misspell whatever they want, and make fun of whatever they want- as long as nobody gets injured- thats democracy. I still get to shout obscenities out the window if that makes me happy. Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415
  16. >>"What is truly shocking is that there are perhaps MILLIONS of people who will be helped by this (parents and children) and there are STILL people out there who are alleging corporate kickbacks and greed and abuse instead of looking at the large people it will help who TRULY need the help." Well I am democratic moderate of sorts but isn't it true that most bills, in order to pass must have provisions which appease both parties? The way I look at it laws should take a Jeremy Bentham style utilitarian approach,ie. the greatest good for the greatest number. Some of my liberal cohorts don't see this- but the same is true- as you point out for the righties when they don't get everything their way. But thats democracy- you aint gonna get everything you want. My point about the speed at which bills are passed- now that the U.S. govt. and the media seem not to be so bogged down with the war in Iraq , is that good bills- and news stories seem to be flowing out of Washington, It's probably just a perception thing. The darkness appears to be lifting... finally. Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415
  17. As Erroll points out provisions to adjust to the bill are already taking shape...that's good, it shows that there are fail safe mechanisms to thwart economic and environmental disasters. Of coarse where you stand depends on where you sit- I invest in alternative energy companies and I also make biodiesel- so I definitely support this bill. But the truly ironic and amazing thing to me is that this bill was signed be George Bush.. The Texas oil man, the man who chose Dick Cheney- The high ranking officer to one of the biggest oil industry support giants Halliburton, to be vice president. The men who forged the invasion into the oil rich middle east. Election year strategy or not, GWB helped to start a trend away from the grip of the most powerful industry in the world- the oil industry. That took balls, and some very good foresight. 20. >>I applaud Congress and the President for passing a law that just makes sense. Yeah, I know how you feel, What's going on here? For 7 years I derided the administration about their gridlock and staunch- thumb in the eye approach toward public opinion- and now bills just seem to be flying through Washington. Government seems to be working. Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. D S #3.1415
  21. I prefer to celebrate something I call Kwanzicafest- its a mixture of Hanukkah Kwanzaa and Festivus it lasts 5 days, you regift everything you got last year, and instead of caroling I just shout obscenities out the window.
