Freefly Modifications For Vector 2...?
gonzalesna replied to somethinelse's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have that very issue... I got a Vector V1-1 and the main flap came open on both of 2 sitfly jumps... I'm sure you could modify the tuck tab, but it's much less of a headache just buying something that will be freefly friendly. I plan on selling mine and just getting a different container. I don't wanna deal with mod issues. There are a lot of used rigs out there that are fairly wallet friendly and still freefly safe Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Eh, that's not bitchy... Hell, I had a similar issue, and I'm a US citizen... I went to buy a pack of smokes at a gas station, showed my military ID and the retard behind the counter tells me he needs a California driver's license. I try to explain to him that it's a government issued ID and it's a legal form of ID. Well, he insisted on a driver's license, so I break mine out... I've got a Wisconsin driver's license since I'm still a resident of Wisconsin. The bastard won't take that either. I may be wrong for doing so, but I'm going to assume it's because he's from halfway around the world and his English wasn't great, so he wants to make sure he's not going to get in trouble, but still!!!! Needless to say, I told him to give my money back I gave him for gasoline, and took my business elsewhere. Not that my whopping $60 or $70 worth of gas was going to put a dent in his wallet. Futile efforts... Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

Which rigs have most people died or been injured in?
gonzalesna replied to Honeybee's topic in The Bonfire
So which brand is the inexpensive one you are going to buy? I'd reccommend renting gear for a while first. Try out a few different canopies and containers, and see what you like. This might be a little more difficult if you're at a smaller dz, but if you're near a lager dz, they usually have a pretty good selection of canopies in a number of sizes to rent. Once you find what you like, I'd reccommend used gear. If you're looking at getting into disciplines with faster fall rates, be sure that the rig is "freefly friendly." I am a perfect example of making the mistake of buying a container that isn't. I picked up a Vector V1-1 back in December, jumped it for the first time a week and a half ago (I was waiting on canopies), and in 2 of 2 sitfly jumps, the main flap came open. Obviously, I made a bad purchase. Quite disappointing, because I now either need to sell it, as it is a safety risk to have the main flap coming open in freefall, or solely use for RW. Since I don't do a lot of RW jumps, I intend to sell it. (This is an older model. Newer models have come out since then that do not have this issue.) This doesn't mean my rig isn't safe, it means it's not safe for freeflying. During RW, the main and reserve flaps aren't exposed to the relative wind. During freefly, they are, so it's very important to find a rig that has flaps that will stay closed. For new rigs, this really isn't too much of an issue from what I've seen, but if you intend on getting used gear (and again, I recommend that you start with used gear, but that's just me, and there's probably many that would disagree with my statement), be sure to ask your instructors if it's a freefly friendly rig. Ultimately, you're instructors are the best source of knowledge you have. I still go to my instructors first with any important questions I have about gear, a specific discipline, or generalized questions about the sport. If they can't answer your question, I guarantee you that they'll point you in the direction of someone wno can. Just be safe, ask your instructors lots of questions, and have fun. -

Personally, I'd bust his face in, but that's me... You could also try and file harrassment charges on that cock sucker and start getting serious with your boss (don't let him change the subject.) I feel your pain... I only got in maybe 5-10 jumps in all of last year... I'd check the logbook, but it just makes me sad. On the bright side, this year, I've already done more than in all of last year. Don't worry, you'll get back up. Take care of the bills so you don't stress more on 'em later. I actually went just over 6 months (early June to mid-December) last year doing nothing more than looking up, since I didn't have the $$$ to jump. If you wanna come out to Cali though, I'll buy you a jump... you buy the beer though (probably cheaper if you just buy your own jumps) Be patient... you'll get back up there
