I'm not going to restate my points you continue to ignore. It would have been people like you pointing fingers "why didn't anyone do something to stop SH" after it was too late. I can no longer debate with someone who emotionally ignores logic. I have my position, you have yours. Let's leave it at that, champ. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

>Saddam wasn't a threat to anyone UN resolutions to disarm aren't typically imposed on countries who aren't a threat to anyone. >Saddam was never planning to attack the U.S The only threat you see is the potential for a frontal military assault? Iraq has been a terror supporter for many many years. >The chemical weapons you trained his scientists to make Yes those. He was directed by the world to not have them anymore. >imposing sanctions SH had the power all along to cause the sanctions to be removed. What did SH do to help his people? Keep building palaces? Keep interfering with UN inspections? Send a few more tractor trailer loads of $100s to Syria? >There was no catastophe imminant The only time to act is when a catastrophe is imminent? >Can't handle it? white people in the west can "handle" democracy? Not Arabs right? That racist tone is unnecessary, sir. Those who can best handle democracy are those who rise up and fight for it themselves, regardless of who they are. I've personally never accepted "freeing the Iraqis" as a legitimate reason for our invasion. And now we have proof since all groups there seem to hate us now to some degree. So much for liberation. >By invading? No, that was the number one crime under all international laws. Invasion to enforce the will of the world to protect itself was the defensive action of last resort. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

The sudden rush to finish the inspections only occurred after the US surprised the world and physically moved toward invasion. Why wouldn't Bush wait another 30 days? Because it was another in a long line of delays. If we concluded in less than two years there were no WMDs, surely SH could have allowed the UN to take less than 12 years to do the same thing right? Because SH's heel dragging was specifically intended to tell the world he still had a WMD program and he could do whatever he wanted. He succeeded. The world was convinced. Only Bush did something about it. This war is SH's fault, no one else's. Yes, but only half the story. SH's intent since the end of GWI was to fuck the US up. Bush was the only world leader with the guts to do something about it before any Americans suffered the same fate as the Kurds, or worse. Remember them? The ones killed by SH's WMDs that he never proved he got rid of? But of course politically, it's easy to second guess someone who's trying to prevent a catastrophe, rather than respond to one. And the democrats were smart enought to seize that opportunity. If the US fails, they win, so that's what they strive for. Sad. The neo-cons are evil, as well as their intent to spread western democracies to places which don't want it, and can't handle it. But from a defensive preventative posture, holding SH accountable was the right thing to do in the long run. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

Military uniforms far too often are incorrect in some way. Insignia or awards worn improperly, out of context, or just wrong. Funny, it would be so easy to take a few moments to get it right. Movies are worse, especially since many which have some military element to it have paid advisors. Not that it bugs me, but it kinda ruins the illusion of the story when you see mistakes like that. Like when a boom mike drops into frame. Or when Jimmy Fallon showed up in the middle of Band of Brothers. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

There'd be nothing wrong with it, acc'd to Thomas Jefferson. Someone spent a lot of time engraving this quote of his on one of the interior walls of his memorial structure: I am certainly not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors. I think of this quote anytime someone uses the old "because the founding fathers said so" argument. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

A group which is trying to discontinue use of that word in any context admits that context is important. It's like rayyyaiiin, on your wedding dayyyy.... (Flame not please. I know damn well the word in most contexts is destructive and offensive.) Yes, great episode. I'm sort of new to SP, but it seems most contain very clever social commentary. A question about the Iranian operatives in Iraq.
misaltas replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
So what if Iran is involved? Any country in their right mind, and interested in their own defense is going to try to involve themselves in an extremely destabilized situation right next door. It makes sense that they're going to want the situation to go their way. Sort of like how the US covertly supported Britain in the late 30s, or the Afghans in the 80s, and we weren't even next door. Cripes people, in '62 JFK said that any action in this entire hemisphere would result in our retaliation. I won't even mention the Monroe Doctine!! (wait, I did) Iran's involved. So what? Quite frankly I have no idea why they'd want to deny it. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts -
Not really. One broke us free from Britain, the other described how we would form our own government. The fathers said the right to break free from British tyranny was a right given to us by our Creator. But the rights described in the Constitution are rights we as Americans agreed to give to each other. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts
-
The assertion that certain rights (among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness) are 'unalienable' is from the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain and its King's Tyranny, not the US Constitution. I didn't see the part where the Constitution declares the right to bear arms as one endowed to us by our Creator. But I'm with you 100% on the rest of it. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

True, going all the way to that one time in '79 when we fabricated 52 hostages in our embassy. But somehow we missed the boat on planting wmd evidence in Iraq which could have "proved" to the world saddam was the imminent threat we said he was. No, for some reason we felt the truth of not finding anything was a much better way to go. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

Tragic. And those responsible must be held accountable. But if you read back, that wasn't what he said, nor what I asked. Peter made some wild statements back there, I asked questions looking for backup. My apologies for not making that clear enough for you. On how for Brits, Americans should be considered more dangerous than opposing forces in Iraq, on the notion that only Americans have had any instances of misdirected force on "friendly soldiers" (his words), and on historical support for the assertion that US military forces lost the Korean conflict. Plus as you saw, several other questions. Pretty simple. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

Those were questions, not answers. Interesting response of yours, since wanting to see 'examples lots of em' was kinda what I was looking for. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

>the allies have more to fear from the yanks than the eye-rackies More to fear? Really? >Bristish troops seem to manage not to kill allied troops, Never? >why is it only the yanks who seem to repeatedly kill friendly soldiers? Only? >American troops got their arses kicked in korea, They did? >they got them serverly kicked in Vietnam, Politically yes, militarily not even close. >they made fools of themselves at the bay of pigs... Another political loss. I thought you were criticizing the american military. >the less said about Somalia the better One mission absorbs casualties and the entire operation is a failure? Again a political retreat due to lack of spine by the administration who directed it, certainly not a military loss. What's your armchair view on what constitutes a military victory, zero casualties? Please... >it seems america needs its allies, yet can't seem to stop themselves from killing them Can't stop themselves? >>And unless you wore a Uniform, >>your position loses a lot of credibility... >no it doesn't Yes it does. When someone only uses hyperbole to make their case, their argument is most probably weak. I might suggest you get your history lessons from somewhere other than your local cinema. For each live telemarketer, the system will dial up to four numbers at once. The sales monkey talks to the first one that picks up and hangs up on the other three. Just as you're picking up that is, and you find no one's on the other end. You picked up too slow and missed your chance. Too bad for you. Then as Zeppo said above, if the response rate is 1-2%, now it's 4-8% if you're calling four at once. Yes, I did telemarketing once. Long time ago. Sorry everyone. . Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts
