Every time I'm out on my deck, my neighbor's dog barks. Should I...

You can try one of these Super Bark Stoppers. Set it to ultrasonic and aim it toward your neighbor's yard. Sorry I had to use it myself, love dogs, but my neighbor was uncooperative, and waking up at 6ish on Sunday mornings was getting old. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts -
Funny no one's jumped in yet to declare: "I'd rather be thrown free than trapped and burned." (always seems to be one of those in the crowd) or "Always in the front, never in the back." Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

Yes. Hand over my heart. One of our rights is the right to offend. Ok, so I'm at the supermarket this morning to pick up a couple of things, and the teenage cashier wishes me a "Happy Memorial Day". I slowly replied "Happy? ... Memorial Day?". Didn't take too long to sink in actually. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

For those who'd like to preview Chris' upcoming career can pick up Absent Element's CD from last year at their website for $7. Just got it in the mail a few days ago. Solid alternative metal, a tad derivative but some unique lyrics, riffs, and timing to keep it interesting. All-in-all not that bad actually. Very listenable. The guy's a talented front man no doubt. >>1) Actually the US created and funded the Iraqi National Congress Ok, but I just don't believe it's that black and white. Those fuckers did sell us a bill of goods though, and it's hard to believe we fell for it. (I was only replying to kallend's point that there was no invitation.) >>2) No one in the region, even the Shiites that we left hanging out to dry wanted us to invade Iraq. They looked pretty happy to me. What would you have them do, make official pronouncements of their support for our invasion plans? When we'd let them down before, weren't going to believe the invasion until we crossed the border, and didn't want to end up on Saddam's shit list--again--if he repelled our invasion? So how is it again you're so sure the Shiites didn't support our action? >>3) Sure, the Kurds didn't want Saddam around but they were essentially running their own region of the country anyway, Saddam didn't have control of the north. He had enough control to conduct military operations and kill civilians without the world (yes, including the US) doing anything about it. >>4) You're right, Saddam DID have WMD's and he DID use them on the Kurds....but he was our ally at the time and we did nothing about it I concede. >>5) Powell stated early on in this administration that the sanctions had crippled Saddam's programs. Then 9/11 came and the story changed. I concede. But in hindsight only. Many more than Bush at the time believed the evidence. Especially after 12 years of sabre-rattling and inspector smokescreens and expulsions. Not to mention Saddam bribed the UN and had friends on the security council he thought would stand in our way. >>6) You're right, Saddam did continue to posture like he was still a dangerous man, BUT the UN inspectors were in the country with unprecedented access to any and all sites. Bush said we couldn't wait for the inspectors. Couldn't wait? No way dude. First, no credible source believes the inspectors had access to any and all sites, especially any and all scientists and records. And second, that this "unprecedented access" only came about at the 11th hour. Give him 30 more days? We gave him 12 flippin' years! >>7) I thought Saddam was a bad man, no doubt. But he wasn't a threat to us. What this administration did was to abandon the war on terrorism which was next door in Afghanistan Good one. I cannot debate you on most of that so I won't. I too wish we had rolled all those divisions in Afg. instead. I believe Gen Zinni when he said Iraq was "contained". With the exception that Saddam was "no threat" to us, when he often declared us to be his enemy, ruled a terrorist harboring state, and was a threat to the region. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

If the recruiter didn't follow the procedures, let's hope he's dealt with, but all of your other points are wheel mud spinning. This kid isn't getting close to basic training. So that aside, it really all does come down to the MEPPS. The recruiters have NO influence over the physicians at the MEPPS. They are held accountable for those put through, and they have a lot more at stake than a recruiter's quota. And it's there that the recruit him/herself has to fill out their own medical history brief. If the recruit tells the truth about his condition, then little chance the docs put him through, even if somehow they don't detect it themselves. (edited, spelling) Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

a. Iraqi National Congress (I know, I know, don't hindsight-is-20/20 me.) b. The Shiite majority who we let down by not supporting them overthrow the Sunni majority after Gulf I. c. The Kurds who welcomed the SF and the 173d Abn Bde fighting in the north. Isn't like they were Saddam fans after he used WMD on them. No wait, Saddam didn't ever have WMD. "It seems you are so taken in by our own propaganda that you've forgotten the ACTUAL reasons we invaded in 2003." Actual reasons? Evidence at the time which pointed to Saddam continuing his WMD programs was secondary to the primary reason for the invasion, which was that Saddam did everything to avoid proving he destroyed the WMD he had. Look, everyone knows the post-war was unplanned and poorly executed and is costing us tragically. But the alternative of leaving Saddam in, and years later paying the price, would cause the second guessing to begin why Bush didn't do anything when he had the chance. Sorry if that doesn't fit into anyone's easy "Bush lied" sound bite. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

If the Minutemen follow their own SOP, then they have nothing to worry about. Contrary to what's implied in that author's first paragraph, the USBP is not telling the Mexican gov't ahead of time where the Minutemen are, only after the fact in situations "when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers." Acc'd to the Minutemen's own SOP: "Minutemen Observe, Report,Record, and Direct Border Patrol or other appropriate emergency or law enforcement agencies to suspected Illegal Aliens or Illegal Activities." I applaud the Minutemen and what they're doing, so long as they observe and report and act like citizens, and not like the vigilantes the media are trying to make them out to be. Further down that article, the author says a USBP memo said to not give credit to the Minutemen when calls result in apprehensions. The way I see it, that's a good thing. If they don't officially give the Minutemen credit, then they don't have to report anything to the Mexican gov't, right? Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

A couple of my employees want to join the protest...
misaltas replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
If Bush and Congress believe we need these 11 million workers, one way to do it would be to open up 11 million visas. If they go back to their country and apply, and have no criminal record, they can have one, come back, and enjoy the american dream. The criminals who stay, we can throw them out when we catch them. And the employers who hire illegals can be made to pay the price too: fines, jail. You won't have to deport anyone. They'll all go back on their own. And then come back the right way. misaltas replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
Immigrants? Or illegal immigrants? Tell them this. Anyone who's for illegal immigration is a sucker. They're someone who's for people working their ass off for below-market wages, and no protections nor benefits, and they're also for business owners who profit from paying said wages. If someone really cares about the importance of immigrants in the US will work toward pressuring Congress to bump up the quota of Mexican citizens granted entry/work visas through the controlled process. That way, they can come here and compete for market-wage jobs, and work here with dignity. If you're here illegally, go back and apply for a work visa. Until then, you deserve to get screwed over by american society. Rant uh-finished... Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts -

And you thought US airport security sucked!
misaltas replied to Rookie120's topic in Speakers Corner
Could suck the other way too. Worse... I took a flight from Mumbai to Delhi one week after the Diwali bombings last November. Not one person checked my ID. Not at check-in, not at security, and not while boarding. I think I'd take my chances with a russian lie-detector. That is, at least on my non drug-running trips. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts -
Exactly. As long as there are employers willing to hire illegals, there will be illegals. As long as the gov't doesn't hold employers accountable, we deserve the illegal immigration problem. You cannot hold back water. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

From the MSN Messenger Terms of Use I bet MS uses their interpretation of "(3)" below to mean whatever they want it to mean: However, we may monitor your communications and disclose information about you, including the content of your communications, if we consider it necessary to: (1) comply with the law or to respond to legal process; (2) ensure your compliance with this contract; or (3) protect the rights, property, or interests of Microsoft, its employees, its customers, or the public. And then again, not a lawyer here, but the section below seems to mean that MS will continue monitoring your messages this way until the law tells them not to: All parts of this contract apply to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. A court may hold that a part of this contract cannot be enforced as it is written. If this happens, then that part will be replaced by terms that most closely match the intent of the part that cannot be enforced. And if someone says "who reads this stuff, no one", ok, but on the other hand, no one can say they weren't told. Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts

Yes. The internet being what it is. That's exactly what I'm saying. A newspaper reporter interviews me, they decide what statements are in, what's out, what to mis-emphasize, what to take out of context. Is that censorship too? If the government clamps on a newspaper that's one thing, but your comment misses the mark. You don't like MSN Messenger, don't use it. What would you say if the IM utility in question was open source? Would that be the same or different? Ohne Liebe sind wir nichts
